Nature. The most beautiful thing in the world is, precisely, the conjunction of learning and inspiration. Oh, the passion for research and the joy of discovery!
A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

No idea of what this lovely flower is, but I was enthralled by its beauty and form. Looks like it's in the daisy/aster family.

The view from a trail on signal hill looking down on the battery. It was the first day with a new lens. I got it to shoot my daughters hockey games or at least thats how I justified it! The lens preformed wonderfully but I quickly learned it’s is not the best hiking partner! It’s a tad big so the stadium is where it may see the most action.

Do we ever stop and think about how much beauty goes unnoticed and unappreciated every day. Think about how many sunrises and sunsets are missed because we would rather watch mindless television or scroll through social media. Think about how many mountains are not explored due to our fear. Think about how many times we walk by flowers and never take the time to stop and appreciate their beauty. Think about the people in our lives, our spouse, our children, grandparents, friends. How often do we neglect to see the beauty in them. How often do we forget the beauty of relationship. How often do we neglect those who love us most. Why is it that we would trade the most beautiful things and people around us for the pursuit of business, money, fame, status, comforts, and even fears? Have you ever stopped to think about why our priorities are so messed up? May we not waste another day taking for granted the beauty that is all around us and has been gifted to us to steward!

Fuji X-Pro3 plus Samyang telephoto lens. The pursuit of beauty in a violent world is a problem. Blue Bells are beautiful and extremely fragile. How do we represent this beauty without acknowledging the violence that is also there? The focus on beauty alone could be escapist, even expressing a flat denial. On the other hand, showing beauty could be interpreted as a protest against a violent world, or a reminder of the possibility of an alternative world. I think it is okay to concentrate on beauty, as long as we do not deny the horror out there.
The Malachite Kingfisher (Corythornis cristatus) is a river kingfisher which is widely distributed in Africa south of the Sahara. It is largely resident except for seasonal climate-related movements.
Malachite kingfishers are typically seen near water, perched on reeds or branches over slow-moving water. After detecting its prey, it flies down to the water and catches it. It then returns to the perch and often beats the prey before it is swallowed, head first if it is a fish. While waiting for prey, the bird often bobs its head, raises and lowers its crest and flicks its tail. Perches are located 20-50 cm above the water, generally in areas of scattered vegetation with high fish density. This kingfisher is a diurnal bird and is usually solitary, apart from in the breeding season. Being a strongly territorial species, interactions between the owners and intruders may happen, involving threat displays, bill-grappling, flying attacks and aerial chases.
