The designer of Caprice is unknown. It was patented by Arthur M. Barnhart of Chicago in January-February 1888; rights were assigned to Barnhart Bros. & Spindler of the same city.
The tradename of Caprice has been mightily confused with that of Cabinet, which was patented and assigned to BBS by German immigrant Ernst Lausche in February-April 1888. The specimen of Caprice shown in The Solotype Catalog [20] is captioned Cabinet. Furthermore, Cabinet has been revived as Caprice.
Caprice has not been digitized for posterity. A working specimen of this preview is available to revival developers. It includes good, clear images of all known alpha-numeric, punctuation and decorative glyphs.
