Ron and I were plagued by an aggressive Green Heron, who, whenever the kingfisher arrived at the snag, would possessively chase it off. We called it "The Bastard" which inspired this composite which I call "Bastard Landing". Wishful thoughts may have been behind the making of this composite.

Il la surnomme lui même "Little Bastard" ...
Le 30 septembre 1955 , J. D. et son mécanicien se rendaient à une Course à Salinas (à 500 km de Los Angeles) ... Ils n' y arriveront jamais ...

Am 21.06.2021 war der Bastard 372.008 - nur echt mit dem oben liegendem dritten Spitzenlicht - mit einem "Mischer" auf dem Weg nach Halle/Saale und konnte im Einschnitt am ehemaligen Oberauer Tunnel aufgenommen werden.
Vier Brücken, diverse Stützmauern, insgesamt 1,3 km Länge: der Königsteiner Viadukt ist ein Bauwerk der Superlative. In langer mühevoller Arbeit entstand er im Verlauf des Streckenbaues Dresden-Bodenbach 1848-1851. Er überbrückt das Tal des Flußes Biela in einem großen Linksbogen 5 m über der Stadt Königstein.
Am Abend des 16.6. ist 372 011 mit 47368 Kolín - Hamburg von Děčín nach Pirna unterwegs und überquert dabei den Viadukt.

Aegilops geniculata, llamada comúnmente rompesacos, trigo bastardo o respigón, es una planta herbácea de la familia de las gramíneas.
Muy abundante en cuestas, adiles, terrenos incultos, secos y soleados. No la comen las ovejas por su aspereza y por sus numerosas, largas y rígidas argañas o aristas. Al secarse se endurece más y penetra en el tejido de los sacos, de ahí el nombre de rompesacos.
La humanidad le debe mucho a esta planta de aspecto tan poco llamativo.
Las civilizaciones del mundo antiguo ha estado ligada a un cereal: las americanas al maíz, las del sudeste asiático al arroz y las del entorno mediterráneo y oriente próximo al trigo. Y el trigo no sería lo que es si no fuese por el rompesacos.
El apareamiento cuando logra de dos especies diferentes pero muy semejantes si logra hacerlo sera un híbrido, un nuevo ser que comparte características de ambas especies. Los híbridos en general son estériles. Pero a veces y sobre todo en el mundo vegetal se originan híbridos fértiles.
Hace unos 8000 años en Oriente Medio un antepasado del trigo con siete pares de cromosomas, el trigo einkorn se cruzó de modo espontaneo con el rompesacos, que también cuenta con siete pares, dando lugar a un híbrido fértil de catorce pares de cromosomas conocido como trigo emmer.
Aún tendría que acontecer otro accidente genético. Este trigo emmer se cruza nuevamente con el rompesacos, y surge otra especie de 42 cromosomas, y que casual y afortunadamente también es fértil: el trigo pan.
El hombre no sólo la ha propagado por los cinco continentes, sino que en los últimos años tambien le ha introducido cambios en su genética aunque ya sin la colaboración del rompesacos.
An unassuming little flower with an unfortunate name from a visit to Horn Prairie in Illinois a few weeks back. This site includes 29 acres of untilled prairie on about 40 acres total, with a plant diversity that exceeds 600 species. It's a real jewel.
No les hace mucha gracia a los Ruiseñores bastardos ( nombre horrible...) dejar la seguridad de la espesura y de los carrizos, pero siempre hay excepciones. Cuando se acercan lo hacen como los ratones, sin separarse de los bordes de los matorrales, sin salir al claro y haciendo el mínimo ruido posible.
Los sonidos del campo han cambiado en nada, llegan días de trigueros, ruiseñores, abejarucos y oropéndolas. Bienvenidos todos ellos!!!.
Por cierto, entorno completamente natural, sin más decorado que las flores de uña de Gato "Cotula coronopifolia" que adornan en esta época la orilla de la charca.

I took this in the middle of the night on Ed and Frans balcony.
I loved both of the cats, but they were incredibly suicidal all the time.
They actually fought and chased each other on this railing, and as you can see its pretty damn fucking high. My heart always skipped a beat when I saw them doing this, but Ed told me its OK.
