And the Man from Blackburn

I came across this special box at a local purveyor of fine malt beverages, ........... uh, I mean a liquor store. Stone Brewery, the creator of Arrogant Bastard variety beers, is the largest, and most successful craft brewer in southern California, and they have a wonderfully irreverent attitude. They endeared me to the original Arrogant Bastard ale by having a label that stated "It's not expensive, you're cheap". All of this wouldn't matter if their beer wasn't good. I like photographing clever beer labels, and I plan to document the bottles in this box that I haven't already posted on Flickr.

 

This box was a little challenging to photograph, because the black sucks up all the light. I shot it from above and looking down because I wanted the top of the box to be visible. I put a YN560 in a 24 inch softbox on the left side and a YN560-II in an identical softbox . Both softboxes were pointed at the center of the box at a 45 degree angle. When that still didn't put enough light on the top, I hand held a bare Strobie 130 and pointed it at the white ceiling to reflect some light onto it. All three strobes were in manual mode at full power, and were triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.

 

I enjoy good beer, and appreciate a clever or interesting label. Other pictures that I've taken of beer can be seen in my Beer album.

Jackal you smug bastard. Typically when I really really want to spend all my money on a new doll but know I shouldn't, I go get him off the shelf to hold him... but then he looks like I should be spending all my money on him. .__. It leaves me very conflicted...

While out to do some street photography, I happened upon this bar. No wait, that doesn't sound right. I passed by this bar on the way to some street photography. um...that sounds no better. The point is, I just happened to find these guys. And the girl with the hoola hoop. Really. I'll save the hoola hoop for later. This is Thee Swank Bastards, a surf-punk band. Very entertaining. I only stayed for 3 or 4 songs...actually, I was outside peering in through a window most of the time because it was fairly crowded inside. And I did eventually make it to the street photography (see yesterday's shot) (on second thought...that might explain the strangeness to that shot) I know there's a knob and the shoulder of a person....but it's as clear a sighline as I could get. Damn knobs!

Este queso lo elabora la joven quesera Silvia Rodríguez Murgó en su quesería Murgó Formatges situada en Sant Iscle de Vallalta, en el Parque Natural del Montnegre (Maresme), Barcelona.

El Bastard es un queso de leche cruda de cabra, de apariencia suave, en su aspecto externo presenta una forma redonda con una corteza de color tostado por el ahumado a baja temperatura con madera de haya. En su interior se encuentra un queso de pasta láctica, quebradiza y con toques suaves de acidez. Acidez que proviene del hecho de de ser un queso de cuajada láctica de 18 horas maduración y cuajado. Este queso se puede combinar perfectamente con mermeladas o fruta fresca, tales como; uva, tomate, pera o manzana. Este queso madura unos 15 días, pero en este caso concreto yo lo deje madurar algo más, por eso tiene ese aspecto seco y quebradizo, pero aún y así está riquísimo.
