The Banded Demoiselle or Calopteryx splendens is probably my favourite damselfly because I love the colouring. This male is the first Banded Demoiselle I have seen this year. I hope that there will be more in a few weeks. Usually they are quite common at the local nature reserve.

There is a fruiting fig tree at Eco Lake and it attracts all the birds from the vicinity to congregate there especially for their morning feed. Others have spotted a pair of Flameback woody.

There are Starlings, Green pigeon, Black Nape Oriel etc.

Was lucky this Banded Woody flew down from way up the tree to eye level around 15 ft away. Pure luck.

I love both my Sony & Oly system. Both have their strengths and weakness and have finally decided that I am keeping both. So I have them in the boot of the car.

Thank you my friends for popping by.

I really appreciate your visits, comments & favourites.

Wishing all my Flickr friends a Happy Weekend

Thank you

Wikipedia: The banded bay cuckoo or bay-banded cuckoo (Cacomantis sonneratii) is a species of small cuckoo found in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Like others in the genus they have a round nostril. They are usually founded in well wooded areas mainly in the lower hills. Males sing from exposed branches during the breeding season, which can vary with region. They are distinctive both in their calls as well as plumage with a white eyebrowed appearance and the rufous upperparts with regular dark bands and the whitish underside with fine striations.

The double-banded plover, known as the banded dotterel or pohowera in New Zealand. They breed in New Zealand's subantarctic Auckland Islands, and generally migrate in winter to Australia.

Not a great shot as I had to zoom in a very long way to photograph them, but I was very excited to see them.

Thanks for your visits, kind comments and faves, very much appreciated.

Male.

Species: Calopteryx splendens.

The Banded Demoiselle can be seen flitting around slow-moving rivers, ponds and lakes. The males are metallic blue, with a distinctive dark band across their wings.

We had just left the lodge early in the morning when we saw a group of mongooses foraging for food. They smelled every little nook and cranny in the ground searching for beetles, ants and worms.

Probably my better banded rail photo as it shows a bit more detail. As I was "walking" on the rocks this bird appeared some 30m away from where I was. Luckily I managed to get a shot before it disappeared again!

This butterfly is peppered with green scales either side of the main bands. It belongs to a large group of Asian swallowtails that all have this green or blue iridescence.
