It's a fair amount, I suppose. People are always asking why my backpack is so huge; this is why.
If I have my english book in it, I very frequently lose my balance and topple over.
This little red backpack is all I take on my journeys. I have a copy of Poul's Gateway with me, which I picked up on Naxos. Left my copy of Lord Valentine's Castle in it's place. Note the Lonely Planet's guide to Greece.
I carried the kid, platypus, sippy cup, snacks, clean diapers, & packed out all the trash & dirty diapers. My hubby carried everything else. Meander Meadow hike www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/meander-meadows-spur
Ever since my black Herschel "Heritage" backpack started to wear out and smell funky from the 400+ bus rides, I could sense that it was time to put it in the closet. I tried soaking it and washing it but I still couldn't get rid of the smell soooooo I decided it was time to get a new backpack.
I never shop at Browns but this bag caught my eye and I had to step in the store. I was contemplating between this colour and Viking Red (burgundy) but I thought about all the red pieces of clothing I owned and didn't wanna look like a tomato so...
The "Women Backpacking Together" Meetup met at the Caribou Lake Trailhead in the Caribou Wilderness in the middle of the night... around midnight. Lorrie and I were there around 7:30pm so after we put up our tent and built a fire, we warded off the bears by making a lot of noise. Four plus hours! We were up around 9am and out on the trail around 11am. Got to our camp at North Divide Lake around 3:30pm and set in for a cold night. Snow all around but we found a nice meadow to camp in.
Backpacks are on sale 1/2 price, and I really wanted to buy this, but I think if I started using a kid's backpack my friends really would call "What not to wear" and report me...

My original design. The body is crocheted batik fabric strips, the flap is crocheted recycled sari silk, and the medallion is crocheted perle cotton with a center glass bead. The straps are braided fabric strips. The backpack is lined with a repurposed patchwork knit t-shirt.
