FISH and I went backpacking over the Labor Day weekend at Raven Rock State Park, NC. It was only about 2.5 miles into the campsite, but the campsite is 100% dry. Thus we had to hike out each day to refill water bottles. We also say Lanier Falls on the Cape Fear River, the lookout, and the famed Raven Rock. It was incredible.

Day 2. Covered 17 miles yesterday. We would be in those mountains in about a week and the amount of snow was exciting. The west side of the lake gets more snow then the east side. The night clerk at the hotel last night said that he thought the snow would not melt entirely this year.

I think this is about where we ended up. After walking out of Red Bridge, we joined the #NCT and the terrain changed. The Manistee River trail stays up atop the riverbank. Whereas the NCT side has more ups and downs along the hills. By this point we were getting tired, our bags were getting heavier and our feet hurt. However, there didnt seem to be as many campsites on this side. We were going to stay at Red Hill, but there were people setup there. Finally, we came to this hill, which looked out over the entire river valley.
