This former G.W.R. 1930 built pannier tank - No.7754 was withdrawn from B.R. service at Wellington M.P.D. in 01/1959, and was one of the last two active National Coal Board fleet members of the once numerous ‘5700’ Class pannier tanks with B.R. It was transferred to N.C.B. Mountain Ash, Wales, from Talywain Colliery, Wales in 1970. When the Mountain Ash system closed, the N.C.B. donated it to the National Museum of Wales who in turn placed it on permanent loan to the Llangollen Railway. It’s poor mechanical condition after years of neglect during its N.C.B. service days have necessitated a protracted restoration project, which was seeing final completion during 2022, entering service in 2023, over forty years since its final withdrawal from industrial service. IN LOVING MEMORY
60 GT Unit, Malvern, England. Sergeant BR Minson (RCAF) died while on a Radar Test Flight in USAAF B-24 Liberator aircraft 42-40987. Unresponsive on the aircraft intercom, he was found unconscious, with his oxygen line detached. Unable to be revived, he was found dead upon landing at Defford Worcestershire, England
