I saw the axis doe crossing the river with her fawn a little ways behind. The next shot shows mother and offspring together climbing the rocky bank together, hides wet with river water. We were already having record heat and drought in April 2022 so I would imagine the water felt pretty good to them.

The Human Abstract
(William Blake)
Pity would be no more
If we did not make somebody poor,
And Mercy no more could be
If all were as happy as we.
And mutual fear brings Peace,
Till the selfish loves increase;
Then Cruelty knits a snare,
And spreads his baits with care.
He sits down with holy fears,
And waters the ground with tears;
Then Humility takes its root
Underneath his foot.
Soon spreads the dismal shade
Of Mystery over his head,
And the caterpillar and fly
Feed on the Mystery.
And it bears the fruit of Deceit,
Ruddy and sweet to eat,
And the raven his nest has made
In its thickest shade.
The gods of the earth and sea
Sought through nature to find this tree,
But their search was all in vain:
There grows one in the human Brain.

My husband and I took a little ride down some county roads near our place. We came across some axis bucks that seem to be of varying ages based on antler size. This is a sequence but of course they came up in reverse order on my feed. Anyway, we first saw two - a vary impressive older buck with large antlers. An interesting fact about these deer is that the mature bucks have a total of 6 points (except in rare cases) and as they get older the antlers just get longer. I have seen old bucks that can barely hold their heads up straight because the antlers have grown so huge. Anyway the two studied us and then finally chose to jump the fence. Then a third one came across the road and stopped to look around as if wondering where the others had gone.

Black Drongos often use ungulates as perches from which to forage for large insects. This particular bird stayed on the back of this Chital for well over 20 minutes, sallying out to grab insects flushed by the foraging deer. Photographed at Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan, India

When the poet writes / short axis / it implies the viewer / starts searching for the long axis / that carries your eyes.
of symmetry and perspective (almost ;) And that's a backlit cloud in the sky, not the Milky Way ;) ))
The spotted deer are imported by owners of exotic game ranches. Sometimes they escape confinement and meander through my residential neighborhood.

As I sat by the Nueces River I saw a doe and fawn walk across the water. The doe was following behind her young one and keeping a close watch. When she saw me, she let out a high pitched yelp and both ran into the protective cover of the brush growing up the hillside. Axis deer are quite vocal and the females and young ones communicate by making barking and yelping sounds. Bucks make a bugling sound. They are an exotic species in Texas but roam freely, often in large herds.

Avenue of history, framed by nature.
From the Siegessäule through the Tiergarten, the view leads straight to two of Berlin’s most iconic landmarks: the Brandenburger Tor and the Fernsehturm. A perfect alignment of past and present, framed by a summer sky and a sea of green.
A view of Berlin from the platform at the top of the Victory Column (Siegessäule), looking along Str. des 17. Juni, over Tiergarten and towards Brandenburg Gate and beyond to the Berliner Fernsehturm. The platform, at a height of approximately 55m just under the statue of Victoria, can be reached via a steep spiral staircase of 285 steps.
Axis.
On a very windy day..
I would try again for the perfect symmetry but that would probably take months due to the constructions nearby.
Hope you like it!

This week's "Sunday Landscape" features one of Dubya's "Axis of Evil" countries, Iran. This is taken from 36,000' onboard Emirates' A380 looking north towards a distant Caspian Sea (not visible in the photo). The location is approximately 200kms west of Teheran and c100-150km northwest of Qom. The whole country looked truly spectacular from the air and at least one more Sunday landscape will be posted in the future.
