This part of Hanley contains several interesting buildings. It was once a part of Shelton, an area between the towns of Hanley and Stoke. You would be able to guess from the architecture of the prominent building in the centre of the picture that it once belonged to the Water Board. This was the headquarters of the Staffordshire Potteries Water Board. When this photo was taken on 28 Feb 08, it was up for sale, after being a wine bar for a number of years. Behind the SPWB can be seen the rounded end of the famous Bethesda Methodist Church, which became well know throughout the country when it featured on the BBC's "Restoration" series. Fortunately work is on going and the building is being returned to its former glory.
On the left of the view is an art-deco building which has been totally refurbished after a period of dereliction, and houses a Chinese restaurant. It was "Peppers Garage" a well known car dealership in the Potteries, and this is where my dad bought his wonderful Vauxhall Cresta PA in the mid 1960s. The building was later used to house Hanley Market whilst the new Potteries Centre and Market was being built.
Finally, the bus - which has just descended Albion Street - is Bakerbus 194 (9595RU, formerly N162KPS), a Scania/Wright Axcess, which is on route X1 to Stafford.

That's the extent of my knowledge on such matters!
I noticed it as it was less-than immaculate, a few years old and having some attention from a chap laying underneath the front of it.

In 1998 nine Scanias with Wright Axcess ultralow bodies became the first Barbie buses to operate in The Potteries. New to First PMT all were placed on service 6 Kidsgrove-Meir Park, passing through the main Pottery towns. Originally given Crosville-style fleet numbers SSS813-21 (S813-21AEH), these became 60055-63. All nine are still allocated to First Potteries, but now appear on other services, besides 6. 60058 (S816AEH) is distinctive from the rest of the batch as it has been fitted with an electronic destination display. The bus was working service 26 on 23 March 2010. (The display was working correctly, the missing information is down to my camera.)

This means that... anything can turn up on 53 then - except a doubledecker due to the low bridge in Taplow. I haven't seen Citaro there, but seeing full size Scania there leaves a little chance for this to happen :)
Thanks to very kind driver in his second week of working for First ;) Good luck with passagners ;)
