It's rescue equipment for the awkward.

Taken while walking around the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Va. The main campus wasn't especially scenic, but this park attached to it was nice.

At first he (?) appeared to be a vertically challenged, stiff old man, frail legs beneath an inappropriately bulky coat, hunched against the cold. This is a bridge carrying oil and/or gas pipelines over the LA River channel, a block or two north of Willow Street, in Long Beach.

I saw this working in my head when I noticed the scafolding. However I did forget about my 6 foot 5 frame and where it fitted in amongst the metal and questionable wood placing. So I did get quite a few friendly embers saying hello to my skin and you can see where the wool decided to take off on the right-hand side. To which I greeted, as I have become fond of my pasty-white skin.
