A Roseate Spoonbill almost misses the mark

I saw a green heron at the same spot last month, maybe it's the same bird. Can't tell from looking at its butt!

Ueno Zoological Gardens, Taito, Tokyo, Japan

The red-faced macaques, also known as Japanese macaques or snow monkeys, are a major attraction at Ueno Zoo. These primates are known for their distinctive red faces and their ability to adapt to cold climates. Despite their resilience to cold, they struggle with extreme heat, as they do not sweat much. This makes them vulnerable during the hot summer months, where temperatures can exceed 40°C in their current concrete habitat.

To address this, Tokyo's Ueno Zoo is renovating its "monkey mountain," originally built in 1932, to create a forest-like enclosure with more shade to help the macaques cope with the summer heat. The new habitat will feature artificial trees and materials that do not retain heat, aiming to improve the animals' welfare by providing a more natural and comfortable environment. This renovation aligns with global trends in animal welfare, focusing on reducing stress and enhancing the well-being of zoo animals.

Details about the renovation of the "monkey mountain" at Ueno Zoo were sourced from NHK.

Great Egret - - - - - - ( Ardea alba, aka Casmerodius albus )

She's just arrived for some late afternoon fishing, and chose this spot for her initial landing before wading along the lakeshore.

Certainly was carrying a large sac having camped down there on the left having to balance uphill across these covered with snow .. thankfully the sun hadn't reached us yet so it was supercool which reduced the amount of sweating !

still trying to get the perfect picture of these stairs; awkward because there is an automatic door that opens as soon as you get too close, the space is narrow, and people keep coming in wondering what you're doing messing around at the bottom of the stairwell.

This week's theme is figurine. I tried to throw together a quick beach looking family photo. There is nothing more that I would like today than sitting on the beach playing with my family, it sounds perfect. HMM!

But surprisingly, not any more awkward on sand. River Otters in Point Reyes National Seashore. This is my 21st post in a row from the coast; that's been my go to during my limited time off this winter.

I am guessing this is a second-year Yellow-crowned Night Heron partly because its behavior reminds me of those awkward early teenage years.

One thing to note the Skatepark is full of spectators at all times.

Venice Skatepark

“This 16,000 sq. foot skatepark is one of the only in the world located on a beach. It features two bowls, a snake run, and a street section with steps, rails, and platforms. The design for the 3.5 million dollar park came “from local skaters and skating professionals,” touts L.A. City Councilman Bill Rosendal’s office. The facility, which opened Oct. 3, 2009, took ten months to build.”

After thinking long and hard, I came up with A for Awkward. This is because I'm sort of awkward myself, and like to create awkward situations just for laughs. It's nice to see other people react to awkward situations because it tells you a lot about that person. I think everyone tries to take everything in stride but fails to do so in one way or another and everyone needs a "plan" or a formula they need to follow in order to get through life. Familiarity is cherished, whereas difference or change is feared (in many cases, not all).

Adolescent Little Blue Heron skews a bit off kilter as it targets a landing site on Horsepen Bayou.

Her joy has been fading recently. It's hard to explain, at least the origin of it comes from causes she wouldn't dare explain.

She's away. Where? She doesn't know. But she knows it's rather dark here, where her heart, unable to pick a few flowers of life, resounds.

She's saddened to be saddened. She's fading for fear of fading.

She'd like to be heard, but she says nothing. She'd like to be understood, but she doesn't explain herself. Isn't it stupid? And what a fatality.

Inside her, the eternal conviction to bug the world resounds. She feels like she's a victim of a misfortune that is not true enough to complain about it. She bleeds, but who doesn't? She cries, but how many people cries at once what she cries in a year?

Yet she complains, in front of your anonymous eyes.

You know, she's unable to conquer her torments. "Whatever", you'll say. And you will be right. It's just blues. It's so small. And it's so big. She simply wishes you'll never suffer from it.

Thank you for still being reading. Although I don't know where you find the courage to read me to the end.

Candid eye contact street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. I love the awkwardness in posture and mood of these three men in the city.

Impalas are usually a study of grace and beauty, but I managed to capture a different moment while on that last day of my safari in Botswana.

So sorry to have been away for awhile, but changing computers proved to be a monumental task. I also will not be around much for the next few weeks. I will be heading off to Venice shortly, but not before I try to figure out a new little camera I have for the trip. It is lightweight and easier to carry. I did not intend to have so much technical stuff happen all at once.

I thought that uploading to Flickr would be incredibly difficult from this new computer. I have not had a new computer in 7 years. However it is not. There is a way to publish to Flickr that is even easier than before. That is after I found it.

As always, thanks for stopping by and taking a look. A reminder that all of my images are copyrighted and are not for your use in any way unless you contact me.

The African jacana (Actophilornis africanus) is a wader in the family Jacanidae, identifiable by long toes and long claws that enable them to walk on floating vegetation in shallow lakes, their preferred habitat. Jacanas are found worldwide within the tropical zone, and this species is found in sub-Saharan Africa. African jacanas feed on insects and other invertebrates picked from the floating vegetation or the surface of the water.

Last of my recent drawings. For this guy, i was making him up as i went along. His collar is a prime example of that. Same with the hat. This drawing kinda reminded me of Flapjack. I used the Autofix in Piknik, then did some more edits.

Arriving to the party at the same moment is so awkward! Who should ring the doorbell? What’s the protocol??

These Blythe dolls are Spring Hope (left) and Urban Fairy Ellie (right). I took this picture to compare them, since they are very similar, and for the theme “Party” on Facebook.

"Yes, I would like to buy this print right here."

"Sure."

"The model in the pictures is just amazing. Such cuteness and such character."

"Why thank you!"

"Oh, sorry...I was talking about the bear."

"Yep, I knew that."
