Early sunlight streaming into a forest glade at Woolbeding in the South Downs National Park, England.

The forest is a magical place. In medieval times the forest was the source of firewood and closely managed to ensure consevration. It was also a source of fear with tales of hauntings and trolls and all sorts of mythical creatures.
In recent times, the reliance on wood as an energy source, and even as a building material, has reduced and forest management has become something less critical in the minds of most people. But a darkened forest still stokes the primal fears in the hearts of most people. Uncertainty abounds, unfamiliar noises, and sensations capture the imagination, and the utter darkness of a dense forest will chill even the most hearty souls.

A pair of swans takes advantage of open patches of water one hazy day in Humber Bay in Toronto, Ontario
In fact I was on my way home that morning, from a not so successful try to shoot a sunrise. The sun was swallowed from a thick cloud cover immediately after rising. But while I was driving , a little bit overtired, I see this view out of the corner of my eye. A glowing sky above heavy overgrown hills and valleys, where the morning fog is hovering around. Regardless to the fact that I'm a litte bit unhappy not to have started the day on this mountain on the left side in the background, mt. Lilienstein, I'm glad that I could experience and capture this beautiful atmosphere.
