The best mushroom season is going, nothing but the forest, wandering and delicacies on the dinner table.

Scout has a Little Red Riding Hood money box in which he is keeping leftover Easter Eggs for safety. his best friend Peter asked Scout if there might be room in the tin for his leftover Easter eggs, as Peter has had to keep hiding them in different places around Mummy Marian's house so Benny (who also lives in Mummy Marian's house) can't find them. He can't be trusted with goodies like Easter Eggs around, so Peter has to put the eggs in a different place each time. Of course Scout said that there is plenty of room in his Little Red Riding Hood tin, so Peter, with the help of Aurora brought them through the magic portal from Mummy Marian's garden to Daddy's garden using a rickshaw to transport them.

SCOUT and ROSIE: *Run to the magic portal hidden deep in Daddy Jesse’s garden.*

PETER: “Oh! Mijn allerliefste Prinses Rosie! My heart goes flippity-flop when I see you! It’s so good to see you!” *Gives Rosie a soft, snuffly kiss.* "And Scout mijn allerbeste vriend! Thank you for agreeing to keep my Easter Eggs safe!" *Gives Scout a snuffly kiss.*

ROSIE: “Oh mijn Prins Peter! You make my heart go flippity flop every time I see you! You are so handsome!” *Gives Peter a soft, snuffly kiss.*

SCOUT: “Oh it's my pleasure mijn allerbeste vriend Peter!”

AURORA: "Hullo Scoutie!" *Waves from atop the Easter Eggs in Peter's rickshaw. 'it's so good to see you and your cute little nose!" *Giggles.* "May I have a nose kiss, sweet Scoutie?"

SCOUT: "Oh... yes of course Aurora." *Gives Aurora a nose kiss and blushes.*

ROSIE: "Come along mijn pPrins Peter and Aurora! Let's go put your Easter Eggs into Scout's Little Red Riding Hood tin."

SCOUT: "Yes, and once we have done that, we we can play hide-and-seek, and have some tea!"

ROSIE: "Oh yes! Daddy is getting the tea ready now, so maybe will will have the tea first, and then play hide-and-seek!"

PETER: "That is a good idea, mijn allerliefste Prinses Rosie!"

AURORA: "Oh I can't wait to have tea, and then to play hide-and-seek, and the maybe to get another snuffly nose kiss from you. sweet Scoutie!"

ROSIE: "And of course we can have some more soft snuffly kisses, mijun Prins!" *Giggles.*

PETER: “Mijn allerliefste Prinses Rosie. You are the most beautiful Princess in the world."

ROSIE: "Oh thank you mijn Prins!" *Blushes red beneath woollen plush.*

PETER: "Uh...mijn lieve prinses...do you like my nose?”

ROSIE: "What do you mean, Peter?"

PETER: "Well, on the way here, Aurora says that she likes Scout's little nose. She says that there is nobear who has a pretty little nose like Scout, so, do you like my nose?"

ROSIE: "Oh mijn prins! Beauty and cuteness is in the eye of the bear who beholds it. I love your nose! I think your nose is the cutest and the prettiest of all!"

PETER: "Really?" *Smiles.*

ROSIE: "Of course! I love everything about you, mijn sweet prins Peter! I love you... SOOOOO MUCH!" *Gives Peter another soft snuffly kiss to prove it.*

PETER: "Oh... oh good! Thank you, mijn allerliefste Prinses Rosie!"

DADDY: "Ahh there you all are, Scout, Rosie, Peter and Aurora! My! There are quite a few Easter Eggs you have there, Peter and Aurora. Will there be enough room in your Little Red Riding Hood tin for them all, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Oh yes Daddy! I'm sure there will be!"

DADDY: "Very good! Well off you go, you four, and once you

have stored those Easter Eggs safely away, some and have some tea!"

SCOUT, ROSIE, PETER and AURORA: "Tea hoorah! Grumbly tummies, Daddy! Grumbly tummies!" *Rub tummies vigorously.*

My bears Paddy and Scout have made very good friends with two bears in Holland called Peter and Oleg (www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577154558... and www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577233464...) and their MummyMarian Kloon (on and off). Peter and Scout are very similar and have become best friends. Peter loves Rosie and Rosie loves Peter, so they have become prince and princess to one another.

Aurora www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577235370... is a Polar Bear whose uncle Nanuk lives with me in Australia whilst she lives with Mummy Marian. Little Aurora is a tenacious bear, and she loves Scout and his cute little nose, which she is slightly obsessed about!

You can see Peter and Aurora heading towards the magic portal in Mummy Marian's garden here: www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/54509855478/in/datepos... or in the first comment below.

Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.

Rosie is Scout's cousin, because like Scout, she is a free trade knitted bear from Africa. She was made in Kenya by one of the Kenana Knitters, Martha Wanjira. She is made from home spun and dyed wool. She was a gift to me from two very dear friends, including the one who gave Scout to Paddy.

Thank you to Marian Kloon (on and off) for the use of her photos of Peter and Aurora in my photo montage.

Colours of Autumn - my favourite time of the year has come around again and some of the colours of autumn are starting to appear.

SCOUT: “Paddy! Oh Paddy!” *Distraught.*

PADDY: “What is it Scout? You sound upset!” *Concerned.*

SCOUT: “Oh I am, Paddy! Just look!” *Points paw to window.*

PADDY: *Looks to where Scout is pointing.* “It’s raining!”

SCOUT: “Exactly Paddy!”

PADDY: “Well, a bit of rain isn’t a bad thing, Scout.”

SCOUT: “Yes it is, Paddy! The rain is bad!” *Nods head seriously.*

PADDY: “Oh what nonsense, Scout!” *Shakes head.* “The rain is good. It’s good for the flowers and the grass and the trees. It gives them a much needed drink! It hasn’t rained a great deal lately and we need the rain.”

SCOUT: “Noooo Paddy!” *Stomps paw.* “The rain is bad!”

PADDY: “What Scout? You love the flowers and the grass and the trees. Don’t you want them to be happy?”

SCOUT: “Well, of course I do, Paddy. It’s just… it’s just…”

PADDY: “It’s just what, Scout?”

SCOUT: “It’s just that, well it’s my birthday on Thursday, and… and… and…” *Tears well in eyes.*

PADDY: “And what, Scout?”

SCOUT: “Well, Daddy is organising a birthday party for me with a chocolate cake with pink cream cheese icing, and I don’t want my party to be spoiled by the bad, bad rain!” *Starts crying.* “I wanted to have a nice sunny day, and… and…” *Cries.* “And so that we could have the party on the lawn, and… and…” *Sniffles.* And then we could play my most favouritest game in the whole wide world EVER!” *Cries more.* “Hide-and-seek in the garden.”

PADDY: *Opens arms and gives Scout a big little bear hug.* “There, there, Scout.”

SCOUT: *Still crying.* “I wanted it to be a perfect day! Now the bad rain is spoiling it!”

PADDY: *Comforts Scout.* “There, there, Scout. Tell me,” *Holds Scout at paw’s length.* “What day is it today?”

SCOUT: *Stops crying.* “Why it’s… it’s Monday, Paddy.” *Sniffles.* “Why?”

PADDY: “Well, if today is Monday, and your birthday is Thursday, why that is three whole days for the rain to come before we reach Thursday. I’m sure it will be sunny by then!”

SCOUT: “Wipes snuffly muzzle with paw.* “Do… do you really think so… Paddy?”

PADDY: “I do, Scout.” *Nods enthusiastically.* “And just think how beautiful and fresh the garden will be for your birthday! The flowers will be blooming, and the grass will be soft beneath your paws, and there may even be some new growth on the trees and bushes that make perfect hiding places.”

SCOUT: *Sniffs.* “Really… Paddy?”

PADDY: “Yes I do, Scout.” *Nods again.* “And even if it does rain on Thursday, it will still be your birthday, and you will still get a special chocolate cake with pink cream cheese icing from Daddy.”

SCOUT: “But what about the party, Paddy?”

PADDY: “Well, if it rains, I’m sure we could have a picnic party inside in the sunroom. We can set up on the carpet. There is plenty of room for everybear! And you know all the best hiding places in the house, better than anybear.”

SCOUT: “That is true.*

PADDY: “So we can still play hide-and-seek.”

SCOUT: “Oh!” *Wipes eyes with paws.* “I didn’t thin k about it like that, Paddy.”

PADDY: “So let it rain, and let the flowers and grass and trees have their drink and be happy, and you and everybear will be happy whether your birthday party is inside or outside!”

SCOUT: “Oh thank you, Paddy! You are soooo clever!” *Sniffs.* “Maybe the rain isn’t such bad rain after all.”

PADDY: “No, this is good rain, Scout. The flowers and grass and trees need a drink very badly.”

SCOUT: “You know what, Paddy?”

PADDY: “What Scout?”

SCOUT: “Now I don’t feel bad any more! My birthday party is saved!” *Gives Paddy a big little bear hug.* “Thank you Paddy! I love you very, VERY much!”

PADDY: “Well, that’s good Scout, because I love you too!”

Scout doesn't actually know when his first birthday was, but as bears are entitled to two birthdays every year, he has decided that his other birthday will be the day he came to live forever with Paddy and me, which was the 27th of March! So the 27th of March it is! I hope you can join us on Thursday. It is sure to be a fun party, whether inside or out, with lots of singing, birthday cake and bear party games to enjoy.

My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.

He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.
