1996 Volkswagen Golf (Harlequin)
1 or 264 produced
(produced in two seperate production runs of 64 and 200.. this car is #7 of the 200 run)
I looked for 2+ years to find one of these cars. I finally located this one in Miami, FL in the late spring of 2006. It had only 39,000 miles on it. I summarily purchased her and drove her back Indiana.
They were produced by VW as a special color concept following in the footsteps of the European only VW Polo "Harlekin" produced from 1993 - 1995. The body panels are not a random pattern, there are 4 color combinations. VW produced them by making 4 solid color cars and then swapping around the body panels after the cars rolled off the assembly line. Therefore the color combos are identified based on the color the car originally started it's life. Mine is a base yellow. Aside from the special paint, Harlequins also got special "Joker" patterned interior which contains the 4 exterior colors in it's pattern, special silver faced gauges, and European tuned suspension.
This one has been modified with...
VMaxx Coilovers
ATS Cup Wheels (15x7 et20 front , 15x8 et18 rear)
European VR6 front Lip spoiler
European front turnsignals (orange instead of clear)
French spec foglights (yellow lenses)
European GTI E-code headlights with french highbeams (yellow)
European radiator support and bumper rebar (lighweight)
Autotech Rear Swaybar
European Headlight switch
Momo Benetton steering wheel
Neuspeed cold air intake
Autometer gauges mounted in radio location in the dash
Radio relocated to center console

The AutoTech E30 M3 had a long and distinguished career in the All-Japan Touring Car Championship (JTCC). It saw its best finish in its inaugural season, taking second place overall in the 1988 JTCC. The drivers that year were Haruhito Yanagida of Japan and Will Hoy of Great Britain.
Will Hoy went on to win the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) in 1991 at the wheel of similarly prepared BMW. Hoy's '91 BTCC title would be the last major touring car championship won by an E30 M3.

Forgot that I'd shot this in early 2010 on a Canon 400D. Thought I'd put it up. Reminds me of what a nice location it was with the Blue Mountains in the background. This is the same place as the really early photos I took of my GTI.
