1996 Volkswagen Golf (Harlequin)
1 or 264 produced
(produced in two seperate production runs of 64 and 200.. this car is #7 of the 200 run)
I looked for 2+ years to find one of these cars. I finally located this one in Miami, FL in the late spring of 2006. It had only 39,000 miles on it. I summarily purchased her and drove her back Indiana.
They were produced by VW as a special color concept following in the footsteps of the European only VW Polo "Harlekin" produced from 1993 - 1995. The body panels are not a random pattern, there are 4 color combinations. VW produced them by making 4 solid color cars and then swapping around the body panels after the cars rolled off the assembly line. Therefore the color combos are identified based on the color the car originally started it's life. Mine is a base yellow. Aside from the special paint, Harlequins also got special "Joker" patterned interior which contains the 4 exterior colors in it's pattern, special silver faced gauges, and European tuned suspension.

The Ariel Atom is a road legal high performance sports car made by the Ariel Motor Company based in Crewkerne, Somerset, England and under licence in North America by TMI Autotech, Inc. at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia.
There have been five Ariel Atom incarnations to date: Ariel Atom, Ariel Atom 2, Ariel Atom 3, Ariel Atom 3 Mugen Limited Edition (only 10 made) Ariel Atom 3,5 and Ariel Atom 500 V8 Limited Edition (only 25 to be made). The current models are the Ariel Atom 3,5 and the limited production Ariel Atom 500 V8 with a 500 bhp (373 kW; 507 PS) V8 made from two Suzuki Hayabusa engines.
The Ariel Atom is unusual in that it is exoskeletal — the chassis is prominently visible from the outside — and therefore lacks a roof, windows and other features normally found on road cars although a small windscreen is available as an optional extra. The chassis design leads to a relatively high drag coefficient of 0.40 in comparison to more aerodynamic road cars. French actor Jocelyn Quivrin died in 2009 after crashing his Ariel Atom in the ring roads of Paris.
