I recently spent 2 1/2 hours in a Boeing 737 flight simulator (Threshold Aviation in Mississauga) with my son. For me it was one of the highlights of the year! I was able to practice two take offs and 4 landings - and didn't crash a single time. My son had a great time too - taking off, cruising and landing in full manual. He could be a great pilot if he wanted to.
Nerd that I am, I got to do a cold and dark start up, program the FMC (flight management computer) select a SID (Standard Instrument Departure) out of Pearson, waypoints, a Category 1 ILS (Instrument Landing System) approach, taxi, and fly using both the autopilot and by hand.
I would recommend this for anyone who is interested. Apparently the staff tailors each experience to the customer and I got exactly what I was hoping for.

Here the cables and inside of the box is being cleaned up. The large cluster of cables on the right (with the blue sleeve) is the one set of earth connections. The cables I use are telephone cables which are a bit stiff; it makes them a bit of a pain to wrangle, but once you bend them into shape and they stay there.
