DING-DING was the sound that called the service station attendant. Rolling a vehicle's tires over an air line would sound the bell to request service.

Marine Garage has been a long time fixture on Moncton Street in Steveston. While the pumps remain, today it is solely a mechanics garage under the name of Seppo's Automotive.
Marine Garage is an Art Deco style building that has a long history in providing fuel and service to Steveston's residents. It originally opened as Walker's Emporium in the early 1900s and was one of the few buildings that survived the fire of 1918 (City of Richmond Archives)

Bill Geer's Garage was established in 1946 and closed in 1987. He must have served the community well. The window says it all.

Reebar is Jaybar's cousin and a mechanic par excellence in Somewhereville. Reebar advertises himself as an auto therapist and prides himself on being able to establish a personal relationship with your car. Reebar told me my Suburu had a fear of speed bumps and needed to slow down and take life one bump at a time. It's best to carefully review those repair bills. Reebar tends to find problems you don't know even existed.

Somewhereville auto mechanic Gary Geerfreek has more spare parts lying around his shop than the general population has had hot meals. His explanation? "When I finish a job if there are parts left over and I don't know where they go, I toss them in my part's pile." The pile tends to grow exponentially over time. Better make an accurate parts count before sending your car to Gary's place.

There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment.
We are making photographs to understand what our lives mean to us.
The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do.
The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.
I really believe there are things nobody would see if I didn’t photograph them.
