This viaduct was built at Gotuwala between the two railway stations – Ella and Demodara during the British Colonial period is the largest in Sri Lanka. Located almost 3100 feet above the sea level, this 99.6ft high bridge is called “Ahas namaye palama” (Nine skies bridge) in Sinhala. When one stands underneath it and looks up there is a beautiful sight of ‘nine skies’ through the nine arches, hence the Sinhala name. This bridge is also called ‘The Bridge in the sky’ due to the sheer height.
This massive bridge is built entirely of solid rocks, bricks and cement without using a single piece of steel. The bridge was finally commissioned in 1921.
There is a popular story to say that when construction work was commenced on the bridge, the World War 1 broke-out and the steel consignment assigned for this site was seized and was used for war related projects. When the work came to a standstill the locals came forward and build the bridge with solid stone bricks and cement without steel.
Thank you for your visit, kind comments, group invites and faves. Always greatly appreciated.
Early morning in Letaba camp (Kruger Park - South Africa), I was waiting for the sunrise when this Vervet monkey joined me and enjoyed the first sunrays of the day.

Taking a break from spring images ...to remember a morning in September when wild goldenrods covered this mountainside ...along the border of No. Carolina - Tennessee.
Wishing you a happy weekend :-)
While walking on a country road at sunrise, spotted this wild rabbit about 10 steps away in the grass. The rabbit wanted to flee ....but it did not want to leave the fresh & tasty clover & grass it had found ....& for a moment it was frozen with indecisiveness ... which allowed time for a quick zoom shot .....after which I went on my merry way ....& the bunny returned to enjoying his delicious breakfast ....a win-win situation for us both :-)))
Thanks for the visit ...... have a nice day :-)

Revuenon-Autofocus-Zoom 3.3-4.5/35-70 on a Revue AC-3s,
which is the Chinon AF 3.3-4.5/35-70 on a Chinon CE-4s
On the long way to the perfect automatic focus: before in the early 1980ties Minolta integrated the AF-system into an SLR-body, several manufacturers introduced such AF-lenses, which can be used on more or less conventional cameras. So here, Chinon's AF-lens can be mounted in principle on every SLR with the Pentax K-mount. If it is mounted on a Chinon SLR equipped with 3 contacts next to the bayonet mount, the AF can be activated by pressing the shutter button. Here the lens is shown with the matching CE-4s, and I think its only difference to the CE-4 are those 3 contacts. Other possible cameras are the CE-5 and CG-5, and I read, that cameras of the CP-series are not working correctly with this lens (different layout of the contacts). On other cameras you have to press the green button to activate the AF-system.
The correct focus is confirmed by a green LED on top and by a buzzer, which can be switched off. The CE-4s indicates the correct focus also with an LED in the viewfinder.
The AF-system uses an infrared light beam emitted by an LED in combination with triangulation, so it can even work in darkness. Unlike other infrared AF-systems, where the focus distance is divided into zones (and the AF-system just selects one of those zones), the Chinon system works steplessly.
The AF-lens has always an AF-lock. On non-Chinon SLRs it's trivial: you just don't press the green button furthermore; but also on Chinon cameras, a half-pressed shutter button keeps the focus. Also on my CE-4s: the shutter will not release, if the focus is not confirmed.
It is possible to focus manually, but then you have to work against the built-in drive, which is not convenient. Manual focusing is required, when the distance is smaller than 1 m. Switch off the AF then.
AF accuracy: .. mm, yes. Not the best. I think the AF-system does not always matches the split-image focusing aid in the center of the viewfinder exactly.
You can use the AF-lens (without camera) also as an approaching rangefinder. Just press the green button and read out the distance from the scale.
Optical performance: I took some quick test shots on a Pentax K-1. It behaves like other contemporary mid-price zoom lenses, soft wide open, visible chromatic aberrations (purple borders), etc.
Some specs:
* 7 elements in 7 groups
* nearest focus distance: 1 m with AF, 0.5 m manually
* 3 1.5 V micro cell batteries (AAA) are required
* weight 680 g without batteries
I got my copy very dirty and with a crooked lever for the aperture, after a lot of cleaning some rusty screws remained. If you want to divide the lens from the housing: remove 4 screw on the backside and remove the back, the back will be still connected with 3 cables to the AF-unit, the black/red indicators of the switches maybe fall off. There are another 3 screws hidden behind the Revue and the AF badge, if you unscrew them you can remove the complete housing. Finally the lens is mounted with 6 screws (3 at the front, 3 at the rear) to the electronic unit, one of the screws holds a cable connector. The lens is connected with 4 electronic sliders, a gearwheel and a pin for the focusing position.

It was low light, indoors with a bit of mixed light of the window and the incandescent lights, but I really wanted this shot. I used my Polaroid Tele lens and held as still as I could.
I actually love the colors as they are, and I love how the out of focus areas are rendered with the Tele lens.
We planted this Cox's Orange Pippin tree 7 years ago and this is the third year its produced fruit. Home grown food is best! Taken with a 1981 Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera Supercolor Autofocus on Polaroid Originals (TIP) film
This is my friend, "Summer" who I photographed last year. She gave birth to twin boys a few weeks ago.

In my opinion , this was the most beautiful and fancifully painted W.C. I have ever come across in my travels in China .
But inside ? It was locked , so I could not find out .
No ...not this year ...but 2 years ago ....on the night of Oct 29, 2012 ...'Superstorm' Hurricane Sandy paid us a visit ...and the next morning this was the view from the balcony .
The 1st big snow of the year is always special ...bringing with it a unique beauty & serenity ....yet tinged with the sadness that another spring-summer-autumn has slipped away ...& Old Man Winter is once again knocking on the door .
Thanks for the visit ....have a nice day :-)
