Skradinski Buk waterfall in Krka national park, Croatia.

This panorama is composed from 25 images (5 brackets of 5 images each). I combined these into an HDR Pano using Lightroom, and processed the resulting RAW file (dng) in AuroraHDR, made some slight adjustments in Luminar, and did some touch up in Photoshop with Lumenzia.

Using bracketing and merging exposures let me deal with the high dynamic range present due to the sunlight directly hitting foliage/water in the scene.

A view looking to the northwest from a parking area around the Piñon Flats Campground area. Given the location of the sun in the skies above, I had to work an angle with this image captured by angling my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward. Anything angled higher would either lead to lens flare across the image or have extremely blown highlights from sun. That would probably one of the reasons why the original image was a little over-exposed with a longer shutter speed. The composition though allowed me to capture a more sweeping view across the desert prairie grass and then have the sand dunes of the national park rise for the focus in the upper portion of the image. For processing this image, I decided to use Aurora HDR Pro and create a TIFF image that would address the large dynamic range of the image and setting. I could then export that to work with DxO PhotoLab 3 and make some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Needless to say, walking around the Diablo Lake Vista Point is a sight to take in! Here I was walking from one vista view to many others...more of a slight change in direction/azimuth to a look across Diablo Lake to ridges and mountains of the Eldorado Massif. For this image, I brought in five TIFF images into Aurora HDR Pro and applied a preset I developed for a natural type look for landscape settings. I then export the TIFF image into Capture NX2 and implied some control points, and color control points and some CEP filters for the final image.

They Say It’s the End of the Day,

But it’s really not.

The sun just moves to another place

For someone else to enjoy the colors and lights.

I said goodbye to the evening sun,

So someone else could see and enjoy it.

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one late afternoon/evening around sunset in Badlands National Park while standing at Pinnacles Overlook. After a day of overcast skies and drizzle, it was a sight to finally see the sun at the end of the day! What a sight! The rest of the story with this image is using an app on my iPhone called PlanIt! Pro to be ready for that one spot for a sunset. I then set up my Nikon D800E on my tripod and used a setup with a CamRanger. I found it easier to compose the image using the regular viewfinder with my SLR camera. I could then use my iPhone to meter and get feedback on what I was attempting to capture. This is the final image with the sun's final light adding a nice glow to a far distant horizon. A nice end to a day...

The night of February 27, 2021 presented possibly the most perfect photographic conditions one could wish for. The sun had long set, the crowds were gone, the tower was lit in beautiful color, and all of it was behind a veil of fog and water vapor. Occasionally, the top of the tower would fade into focus as the fog dissipated, even if only for a moment. This column built on top of a hill overlooks the city of Astoria, Oregon, and recounts the early history of the state. It has been on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places since 1974 and is a top tourist attraction in the Astoria area.
