It's hard to believe that this time last year The Empress was covered in ivy. Apparently it was causing structural damage. What was amazing, is the scafolding over the summer that they put up had an empess cover, so it looked like this as soon as the scafolding went up. Impressive attention to detail.

Bee in Flight

Today i visited the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens to capture some Macro and Bird photos (It felt like it had been awhile since I had been out taking photos). I had two main goals when I visited and that was to capture a (hopefully) half decent macro shot of a Bee or related insect and the same for some Bird photographs. I tried shooting with the Raynox DCR-250 but hand held was a bit of a pain (given there was also wind) so I just used the Nikon D610 and Sigma 150 mm macro in this case.

I edited the image in Lightroom and Aurora HDR. I also fed the image through Topaz Denoise AI (because I was handheld so increased the ISO to get a faster shutter speed) as well as Topaz Sharpen AI (just to remove a little motion blur from the Bee as the shutter speed was not quite fast enough)

Landscape photography is the most natural thing to do around the section of Florida I live in. And since its so easy, I should be doing a lot more of it.

But life gets in the way. There are dozens of perfect evenings that I let slip by. No matter what I'm doing, I still look out the window to see what I'm missing. I think sailors do the same thing.

I don't get a lot of opportunities to take pictures of the mountains. I think of that as landscape photography. However, in Florida, we use clouds as stand-ins for peaks. They are usually interesting enough to fill up the top half of a frame. Throw in a sunset and Bob's or uncle.

A setting looking to the southeast while taking in views to the Spruce Tree House in Mesa Verde National Park. This was from an overlook as I began heading out to walk the Petroglyph Point Trail. What I wanted to capture with this view was the look beyond the nearby evergreen trees to the cliff dwelling site on the other side of the opening. There was almost a portal like look or framing created with the trees. I pulled back a little on the focal length so that I could include more of the cliff and nearby landscape to add to this national park setting.

The South Lake at Willen has a new landmark, the Willen Observation Wheel - seen here towering above the Lakeside pub on a very cold December evening before everything closed down again 😟

A setting looking to the east while taking in views of a waterfall in Maligne Canyon around the First Bridge area. This is in Jasper National Park.

I chose to work with Aurora HDR Pro to better bring that complete setting in the image. I later exported a TIFF image to DxO PhotoLab 6 where I did some final adjustments with contrast, saturation and brightness for the final image.

Last year this time we still had feet of snow on the ground. Hyacinths are starting to bloom and the grass is growing!
