Another shot from a few weekends back shooting in the rain. I love how much the moss grows here in the pacific northwest; it's relentless, and this fallen tree is no exception.

While hiking along the Mill Prong Trail in Shenandoah National Park. The setting is looking to the southeast with the hiking trail to my front as a leading line into the image (and surrounding forest). While I did use a wide angle focal length, my intent was to have the trees spilling off the image sides, creating a feel of a forest all around.

This photo was taken from a preserve adjacent to Highway 41 in Palmetto. If you look close, you can see an eagle sitting on a branch just to the left.
It's a spot that's within walking distance of my home. However, I always end up driving because I'm trying to capture a sunset or something last minute. In this case, the sun is behind the tree illuminating the leaves and, causing them to glow.
I didn't notice the eagle until after I took the photo. However, when I did notice, I walked a little closer to take a picture, and it flew away. But I've seen it here before, so if I really wanted to get the photo, I could just come back at dusk. We have a lot of eagles in our area, but having grown up when they were endangered, it's still exciting for me to see one.

A setting looking to the north and up at switchbacks present while walking the Navajo Loop and taking in views of hoodoos and other towering walls in Bryce Canyon National Park. My thought on composing this image was to use a portrait orientation to take advantage and attempt to capture the full height around me with this national park setting. I included a few people going up, or down, the trail to give a sense of perspective. I chose to work with Aurora HDR Pro to better bring that complete color setting in the image. I later exported a TIFF image to DxO PhotoLab 5 where I did some final adjustments with contrast, saturation and brightness for the final image.

This is looking up the Manatee River in summer. After a few minutes we got a thunderstorm for about twenty minutes, then a crazy sunset; every day like clockwork.
The one-second shutter speed makes the water smooth, like the calm before the storm. I'm nervous when out in these conditions, the air is thick, and it's only a matter of time before lightning strikes. We get more lightning than anywhere on earth because of the geography. My heightened state of nerves battles it out with my need to get a good picture.
The thunder clouds always come down the river, from east to west. Often, if we're at an outdoor restaurant along the water, we can watch the clouds heading towards us. The river is about a mile wide, so it has its own micro-climate. After the storm passes, we brush the water off the table and, enjoy the rest of the meal, just like clockwork.

I got out for a walk between rain storms today to try to see if I could get some relfection shots. Instead I got stuck on the abandoned train tracks taking pictures of fallen leaves.

One has to seek out the reality around
For many things aren't what they seem
People pretend or hide, sometimes even avoid entanglements
But the trees and nature are what they are
There's a simplicity in their appeal
From the sun shining through the leafage above
to the dirt and grasses we walk through on life expedition.
Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one afternoon in Mammoth Cave National Park while walking under trees along the Turnhole Bend Nature Trail.
As for the image captured, I was able to bring out a decent look for the NEF/RAW image in Capture NX2. It was then that I recalled downloading the newest version of Aurora HDR 2019 and tried that out with the NEF image. That definitely allowed me to work with a better set of colors in an image! I then exported a TIFF image to Capture NX2 to do some initial work with color control points in adjusting saturation, brightness and contrast. I finished up the image by adding a Foliage and Polarization CEP filter for the final image seen.
