March commemorates Korean War

CAMP HUMPHREYS — Republic of Korea Army officers joined Korean Augmentation to the United States Army Soldiers (KATUSAs) for a rucksack march in commemoration of the 62nd anniversary of the Korean War here on June 25.
“What we did today is nothing compared to what our predecessors had to go through during the Korean War,” said Cpl. Oh, Hyeon-myeong of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, United States Army Garrison Humphreys. “What they did during the Korean War changed history and the way we live today. This rucksack march allowed us to think about war veterans who marched longer distances with heavier rucksacks, ready to shed blood for their country.”
The Korean War was fought between the Republic of Korea, supported primarily by the U.S., and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, supported by the China and the Soviet Union. It began June 25, 1950, resulting in the division of peninsula that continues today. During the Korean War, the United States provided approximately 300,000 Soldiers to the effort.
The KATUSA program began in July 1950, during the Korean War, to support the alliance between the armed forces of the Republic of Korea and the United States, and the program still continues today. The KATUSA program provides the United States Army with Korean-speaking Soldiers who can speak fluent English, allowing greater military functionality and maneuverability throughout the Korean peninsula.
“This rucksack march was conducted to inherit the will of fallen patriots and pledge the punishment of enemy provocation,” said Major Lim, Dae Chon, ROKA Support Group Area III commander. “North Korea is still threatening the peace on the Korean peninsula with various provocations, and ROK Forces will continue to solidify the sense of national security and self-reliant defense potential.”

Breast augmentation surgery is generally considered a safe procedure but it is not exempt from the risks and possible complications that are inherent to any surgery. In this article, we cover the risks and rare complications of breast augmentation and breast implant surgery.
Capsular contracture
Among the complications associated with Michigan breast augmentation surgery, perhaps the most frequent is the so-called “capsular contracture” effect. The capsule is a fibrous tissue that the body forms naturally around the implant. This tissue is beneficial if its formation is correctly directed, because it acts as a support or “internal bra”.
The capsules that generate abundant fibrous tissue (grades III and IV) can cause breast deformity and pain, therefore they should be treated almost always surgically. This occurs in a very low percentage of breast implant patients (approximately 1% -2%) and occurs due to the contraction of the “pocket” that forms around the implant.
When the capsular contracture is repetitive it can force the implant to be removed permanently. To adequately solve a severe capsular contracture it is necessary to remove the implant and remove all capsular tissue if possible. Although it is not mandatory, it is advisable to place new implants.
Capsules too soft (Grade 0) are equally problematic as they will be unable to support the weight of the implant, causing the breast to fall uncontrollably and accelerated over the months or years. Some incipient encapsulations can be treated with a medicine called Accolate® (Zafirlukast). This medicine, used for the control of asthmatic processes, does not have among its authorized uses the treatment of encapsulations, but several studies have casually shown that it is useful in these cases.
Breast cancer
To this day, no study has shown a correlation between breast implants and cancer or that they delay its correct diagnosis. However, it is necessary that when you undergo a radiological control of the breast (mammography) inform the radiologist that you have breast implants, since the study and its interpretation may be difficult in these situations.
Rarely, implant ruptures have been reported due to improperly performed mammograms. Mammography and/or ultrasounds prior to the operation are recommended to control future explorations.
Recently, a new pathology associated with breast implants MI called Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma has been described. It is a rare form of lymphoma (a neoplasm originated in lymphocytes) that in its form associated with breast implants, manifests itself as a late inflammation (one year after the operation) of one or both breasts caused by the generation of a seroma (accumulation of serum inside the “pocket” that contains the implant).
It is estimated that the incidence of this disease is 1 in 300,000 patients and there are currently around 250 documented cases worldwide. The diagnosis of this pathology is usually simple and the treatment is curative in the vast majority of cases if the implants and the capsule that surrounds them are removed. Changes in breast tenderness
Although it should not be considered a complication, some women may notice changes in the sensitivity of the nipples or other areas of the breasts. It is important to keep in mind that if you have a pregnancy after surgery, your breasts may suffer changes in size and silhouette.

Occasionally, and generally, derived from accidents, breast implants can break or tear. If this happens, a second intervention will be necessary to remove or replace them. At present, the high cohesion of silicone gels prevents spillage in the event of a rupture, which provides greater safety for the patient. The detection of a broken implant during the rhino postoperative period does not constitute a medical emergency, but it is advisable to treat it as soon as possible to replace it with a new one.
Regarding the time that breast implants last, there is no unanimous opinion due to numerous factors, among others the rapid development in implant manufacturing technology. As an empirical rule, it is advisable to perform a thorough exploration (including mammography, magnetic resonance and/or CAT scan) or to consider a replacement after fourteen years. 2ID honors Best KATUSAs of the Year

Amidst the sounds of jazz and the aroma of a full-course meal, the Best KATUSA of the Year Award ceremony honored the selected Korean Augmentation to the United States Army Soldiers for their outstanding service, which strengthens the ties between the 2nd Infantry Division and the Republic of Korea Army. The event, held by 2ID and ROKA, enabled the Division to express thanks for the KATUSAs’ distinguished efforts in supporting the mission Feb. 26 at the Warrior Club on Camp Casey.
The KATUSA’s relatives, the ROKA and the 2ID command, which included Maj. Gen. John W. Morgan III, the commanding general of 2ID, who gave the keynote speech, all attended the event honoring the KATUSAs, a diverse group that accented the vitality of the US and South Korean Alliance.
“To the Family, friends and loved ones of the KATUSA Soldiers tonight, we know you are just as proud of these young Warriors as we are in the Division,” said Morgan when he addressed the audience.
“These Soldiers are serving the citizens of the Republic of Korea and the United States of America with great distinction. Their efforts and contributions continue to strengthen the cooperation that our two countries have come together to achieve for over 55 years.” Morgan presented each KATUSA with the Commanding General’s Certificate of Achievement and Yun presented them each with a medal in honor of their achievements.
The award ceremony also included a speech from Col. Yun, Won-Hee, the 8th Army Support Group commander. He commended the winners for their extraordinary efforts on behalf of the two countries.
Each unit within the Division chose a KATUSA who best met their qualifications of the Best KATUSA of the Year for 2008. For Task Force, 1-72nd Armor Regiment, Sgt. Kim Yong Tae, a gunner for 1-72nd, Company D, displayed extemporary attributes based on his character as a leader and his performance as a Soldier.
“Sergeant Kim was chosen, not only for his contribution to the unit, but his contribution overall to the Army,” said Lt. Col. Patrick Walsh, the 1-72nd commander. “He’s a gunner for an M1 A1 Tank, normally a United States Army NCO’s position. Not only did he have to go over the language barrier, he also had to perform at the equivalent of an U.S. Army E-5, who has three to five years experience.”
“And, he also scored a perfect 1,000 when he shot gunnery, which, out of all of my crews, he was the only one. The score is unheard of, it was an Army Commendation performance,” he added.
The prestigious award comes with a great deal of pride and honor for its recipient. The event was designed to pay tribute to the accomplishments of a select few, and the caliber of Soldier was clearly evident in the winners.
“There’s no comparison to the feeling,” said Kim, 1-72’s award recipient. “Actually, I didn’t expect this, but I really appreciate it. I want to say thanks for everything.”
The Warrior Division showed its appreciation to Kim and the handful of selected KATUSAs from the approximate 900 serving in 2ID. The event worked to showcase the excellence that these Soldiers have achieved and how their efforts continue to strengthen the relationship between the U.S. and South Korea.
“This annual event has been established to ensure that we properly honor and recognize the outstanding contributions and service of our Korean Aumentees to the United States Army,” said Morgan. “Soldiers, who as they are, proudly and honorably stand side by side with their U.S. counterparts to continue in the history and the legacy of selfless service and duty to the best of the Republic of Korea and the United States of America. This long and enduring Alliance lives on because of their great service.”
