The 2016 New Jersey Library Trustee Institute was held Saturday, September 10 at the National Conference Center Holiday Inn of East Windsor. Over 160 library trustees and directors from across New Jersey attended the full day session.
Keynote speaker Maureen Sullivan led the morning session discussing the topic: Re-envisioning the Future of Libraries and The Role of Trustees in Community Engagement. The audience offered many tips for engaging community leaders. Participants then did an exercise to reflect on action steps libraries could take.
After lunch, breakout sessions featured Rick Vander Wende discussing Director Recruitment and Evaluation; Patricia Pavlak discussing the Roles and Responsibilities of Trustees; Leslie Burger on the topic of fundraising; Beth Nawalinski on Strengthening the Library's Profile in the Community; and Michael Cerone covering library law.
Series 1 - jellybeans shot with the light from the front in the spirit of stage lights or a performance, offscreen, with the jellybean "audience" watching and casting long shadows in the opposite direction.
Works better with a bit of imagination.
I just noticed that the jellybeans in this shot "sparkle" a bit more than the others due to the light angle, which is cool too.
The Futures Conference was held Sep. 25 & 26, 2017, at the Borgata Hotel and Casino, Atlantic City, with close to 400 attendees. The conference was sponsored by the state libraries of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia, as well as COSLINE and LibraryLinkNJ.

For the Carducci Quartet, playing Haydn and Dvorak, we were squeezed into the very back row of Rhossili Church. My sketchbook was virtually resting on the shoulder of the woman in front of me. I could just see the tops of the bows of the violins.
The audience at the Gala were an important part of the proceedings and joined in with the toast to the Library Theatres future at the end. The gala was on public sale and many of the audience bought tickets because they had fond attachments to the place. All proceeds from the event went to the Library Theatre Development Trust.
