Yellow Apricot Flower

Acrylic paint on wooden panels

2012

8'x10'

Yellow Apricot Flower is an exploration in the contemporary human form. I explore the human form using exaggerations and distortion of different aspects of the figure to bring out an emotional and physical situation that the audience can become apart of. melding aspects of different cultural mythologies and the art that accompanies with it I create self contained short stories.

"They say, they want heaven"

"They say, they want God"

"I say, I got heaven"

"Well I say, I am God"

-Abel Tesfaye

Yellow Apricot Flower is a piece that is a fusion of several cultural mythologies and early Islamic and eastern Euro sudo-sciences. The main figure of the piece is an interpretation of the Hindu goddess Kali. Kali is known as the goddess of darkness, death, time, and annihilation. Kali is the consort of Shiva and is usually seen standing over his body with the severed heads of her followers enemies. Attached to her head are the six golden goat's head that are spewing smoke from their mouths. The goats heads are symbols in Catholicism that are used to represent the embodiment of evil, darkness, death;the devil. Even though the Pagan horn goat deity predates it, although it stood for wilderness, sexuality, and the life cycle. Looking at the goats you see there are crosses over their eyes as they spit a black smoke from their mouths as if they are being chocked to death by it. The goat heads are golden, a color given to ideals of worship. The tattoos going across her arms are depictions of alchemical lunar calendar that appear in numerous in multiple mythologizes for their use of tracking time. The combination of all these symbols are meant to portray an ending of time, a time of blackness. On the other side of the painting you can see a figure that the deity is emerging from, it is a king that has been skinned alive as a sacrifice to this creature.
