The Giant Atlas Moth has the largest surface area wing of any moth. It has fake "snake Heads" at end of wings. Seen in Edinburgh Butterfly and Insect World.

4.4% gold in colour with a nice head, hop and malt aroma and the taste was quite good.

Atlas is a bronze statue in front of Rockefeller Center in midtown Manhattan, New York City, across Fifth Avenue from St. Patrick's Cathedral. The sculpture depicts the Ancient Greek Titan Atlas holding the heavens. It was created by sculptor Lee Lawrie with the help of Rene Paul Chambellan, and it was installed in 1937.

Rockefeller Center’s Atlas (1937) by Lee Oskar Lawrie and René Paul Chambellan was one of the things I remembered from my brief first visit to New York, a third of a century ago, so this time around I took several pictures of it.

The designer and sculptor should not be blamed for having inspired the book “Atlas Shrugged” by the self-styled “philosopher” who called herself Ayn Rand.

"Designed and manufactured by ABS Defence Systems, the ATLAS frame is a fearsome opponent on the battlefield. Built with a near perfect ratio of armour, firepower and mobility, the ATLAS easily outclasses lesser frames such as the ST-07 Chub."

Equipment:

- 1 DM-17S assault rifle with 5 magazines, CQC knife, and a broadsword

- 2 laser rangefinders, 1 scope, 2 cameras (both have thermal and daytime capabilities), and one radio

- 7th generation composite armour, bolstered with ERA panels

- Rocket-assisted Muscle Cylinders for rapid movement

This is a frame that I designed for Mobile Frame Zero a couple years ago. However, I never got around to photographing it! Although it is not battle tested, I am confident that it would be a valuable addition to any company.

..or known as the 'Barong' moth in Bali.

IT’S THE LARGEST MOTH IN THE WORLD IN TERMS OF WING SURFACE AREA. This one has just hatched and is sitting on its chrysalis drying its wings.

The wingspan of a female Atlas Moth can reach up to 12 inches with a surface area of 62 square inches.

Once mated, the female lays a number of spherical eggs 2.5 mm in diameter on the undersides of leaves. Dusty-green caterpillars hatch after about two weeks and feed voraciously on the foliage of certain citrus and other evergreen trees. The caterpillars are adorned with fleshy spines along their backs which are covered in a waxy white substance.

After reaching a length of about 115 millimetres (4.5 in), the caterpillars pupate within papery cocoon interwoven into desiccated leaves. The adult moths emerge after about four weeks.

Despite their large size, they have no mouths and don’t eat once emerging from their cocoons, relying on fat storage from their immature stages of life.

The adult moths typically die within a week or two of spreading their wings.

The cocoons are very durable and spun from broken strands of brown silk known as fagara, which local communities non-commercially collect and turn into useable products, including purses. Some vacated cocoons don’t need to be deconstructed—they can be used “as found” as small pocket-change purses by simply installing a zipper!

Despite their huge size and bright colours Atlas moths are remarkably difficult to find in the wild. The disruptive pattern breaks up the moth's outline into irregular shapes which blend well amongst a mix of living and dead foliage. If disturbed from rest Attacus atlas employs an unusual form of defence - it simply drops to the ground and slowly fans the wings. As the wings move, the "snake's head" lobe at the apex of the forewing oscillates. This is a threat gesture which deters predators who "see" a snake instead of a moth.

This build has taken an extraordinarily long time. I started building at the end of April, but then I had some work-related travel, which also ate up my weekends. Since I do most of my building in weekends, this project stalled. However, I had a day off work today and finally completed it.

Op zondag 07 juli 2019 kwam, als vlucht 5Y5421, vanuit Miami(MIA) de Boeing 747-87U(F) * N854GT * van Atlas Air binnen op de Kaagbaan.

Atlas Air Boeing 777-F N707GT 'Antares' [c/n 67992] in MSC Air Cargo livery parked at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport [CVG/KCVG] on 5 January 2023. Delivered to Atlas on 21 November 2022, this aircraft had last flown on 23 December when it departed from Indianapolis on a flight to Liege, but was diverted to CVG shortly after departure.
