The European Nitrogen Assessment is the first time that the multiple threats of nitrogen pollution have been valued in economic terms at a continental scale.
The ENA was launched at the start of the week-long Nitrogen & Global Change conference in Edinburgh (11-14 April 2011). The Assessment was conducted through a network of projects supported by the European Commission and the European Science Foundation, and reports to the Air Convention of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
Martin Williams, Chair of the Executive Body, UNECE Air Convention, spoke at the ENA launch, calling it an immensely important piece of work.

There were many interesting items on show at the Big Boys Toys show.
St Peter's Centre is a 100 year old building that has been brought back to life to serve the community of Loughborough.
On the table is a Health & Safety Risk Assessment. With many moving items at the show, some paraffin powered, I was pleased to see that the risks had identified and items were in place if something happened (i.e. damp towels for dowsing flames or cooling skins burns).

A risk assessment is simply a careful examination of what, in your work, could cause harm to people, so that you can weigh up whether you have taken enough precautions or should do more to prevent harm. Workers and others have a right to be protected from harm caused by a failure to take reasonable control measures.
Accidents and ill health can ruin lives and affect your business too if output is lost, machinery is damaged, insurance costs increase or you have to go to court. You are legally required to assess the risks in your workplace so that you put in place a plan to control the risks.

Oh, I love a good risk assessment. Erosion's good - but what of the "other hazards"? Attack by duck perhaps?
