I modeled my diagram after the solar system to show some very important aspects of Content Area Assessments. All of these assessments are different. They have their strengths and weaknesses which need to be taken into consideration by the teacher. Some may look "bigger" and than others to some, or "closer" to what the student may need. However, what is most important in this diagram is that they all are a part of something bigger and that they all revolve around the student - the determining force which needs to be kept in consideration at all times.

Despite major advances in technology and seismic shifts in the skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century workforce, the U.S. continues to assess educational achievement in a 19th century fashion. In failing to widely utilize tools that measure and reflect the lifelong gaining of knowledge and skills, educational institutions and employers are missing an opportunity to better understand what students and workers are constantly learning. New strategies to capture and communicate this information allow students and workers to accurately articulate their knowledge and competencies, building a better and more permanent connection between learning and working.

Roof in ok condition will need to seal some lifted tabs on west side if we do quoted work below
2 missing shingles earthtone cedar, 3 tab, one in west, one in north
3 drains on flat roof, one flows through house to sewer system, the other two go through the attic space then through eaves trough—one on north, and one east
Wants to run heating cable through outlets on flat roof, to eaves and then down the downspout, we recommend gutter filter for gutter east
She has to replace the turbine vent, the second vent further west from garage is broken—this is where leak is, vents need to be closed and replace with power or solar vent
2 other turbine vents are too close to other vents—they are suppose to be 10 feet away from other vents to work properly, as they are now they are not venting at all. Recommneds to repalce these two with ridge vent. Above garage ridge vent should be added as overall the ventilation is poor in this area
Roof in fairly good condition otherwise
Members of a Coast Guard Hazardous Materials Assessment Team look for potential threats to the environment presented by damaged boats in Key West, Florida, in the wake of Hurricane Irma, Sept. 16, 2017. Hundreds of vessels have been reported damaged or have sunk around the Floridian coast as a result of Hurricane Irma's force. Teams consisting of federal and state response members are assessing the potential risk of pollution from these vessels. U.S. Coast Guard photo.

The graphic illustrates the role of assessment, in terms of reading ability. Depending on the reading ability of the student, different forms of assessment might take place. Even though the reading ability levels apply to texts, and whether or not students can read them without assistance from teachers, they could also be viewed as stages that students progress through. One-on-one assessments generally occur during the emergent literacy stage of development, however, they also could occur when a student does demonstrate a frustration level of reading ability. These assessments also tend to correlate to younger literacy learners, hence the younger soccer players. As students progress from the frustration level to the instructional level, assessments change, and include a broader range of factors. Content area assessments take standardized test scores in to account, as well as the amount of background knowledge, and the readability of the classroom texts. Through content area assessments, teachers ultimately want their students to be reading at the independent level. The goal of the teacher, as well as the soccer coach, is to assist the students/players, and assess their performance along the way, so they can reach their highest potential independently.

Sims Street: A house (above left) at 669 Sims Street in St. Paul, renovated through a home ownership program seeded by Living Cities funds. Another house (right) across the street which recently fell into foreclosure and abandonment, one of several such structures that now blight a block that had been coming back. The current mortgage foreclosure crisis threatens to undermine much of the progress by Living Cities and its intermediaries. (Photos by Martin Merzer for Knight Foundation)

My image shows the relationship between readability levels. Teachers must assess their students to find their levels and provide appropriate materials to meet the child's individual reading goals. The waves represent the materials. Riding a wave that is smaller may be easier for the student to surf through, but learning will occur in the larger waves. The instructional level waves might make a student a little unbalanced, but they will be able to learn, power through and keep riding while retaining comprehension. At a frustration level, the wave is too big and the student will fall off, unable to benefit from the challenge of this level.
