How do I do this??
Minute amounts of water, windfall samples - organic and mineral - are collected from the very landscape depicted within each picture - and chemically bonded with the film over 12 months. The result: a developed film and unedited, printed images that are somewhere between a classic photograph and a totally abstract image, depicting the interaction between fundamental chemical elements present at each place & time, representing a more visceral and literal experience of being present in landscapes in a constant state of natural or unnatural flux.

Michael Rawling’s Elemental Series: Miami uses Film and Found Materials at the pictures’ location to create a new types of land- & cityscapes.
Liquid, organic and mineral samples are collected at the site of the photograph - from the very place depicted within the photograph - and bonded with the film over 6-12 months: the resulting image created more deeply representative of the world we experience.

A stone lion sculpture enshrouded in moss (page from my trip to Hakone) - this stone lion was found at the Tamadare Jinja in Hakone. The shrine unfortunately was closed for renovation (a dissapointment) so this statue of the lion became the highlight of the visit after climbing like 100 steps.

"As I reached for my cup of coffee the sun brought the sky straight to my living room. Couldn't tell what I was walking on no more."
A morning of high reflection.
Artist JR posted the text following on facebook. I was seduced by the idea and decided to participate. I'll try to stick to the plan! Here is my second version of my window frame, "Stuck".

"A few years ago, the Buddhist monk Mathieu Ricard showed me the book Motionless Journey with photos he took from his window while he was confined in Nepal during a yearlong retreat. It was amazing to see how many different perspectives you can have from a single small window to the outside world… In 2015, the work of the Japanese photographer Masahisa Fukase was presented during the Rencontres d’Arles: During 13 years, he took very moving photos of his wife Yoko from his window… In the film Smoke by Paul Auster (directed by Wayne Wang), Auggie takes the a photo every morning from the same corner. When he shows the 4’000 clichés to his friend, he reacts by saying that they are all the same. And Auggie replies “They're all the same, but each one is different from every other one.”
Today, we are confined at home and we must make it a valuable experience. I have asked the students of the Kourtrajmé Photo School @ecolekourtrajme in Paris to do a photo from their confined place every day and to publish it with the hashtag #frommywindowframe
Of course, everyone can participate …. Stay safe, stay home
