About this photoshoot:

We did the florist project already in 2017 for the purpose of taking photos for Mother's Day and for one competition in group with dolls on Facebook (flickr.com/photos/maria-mary/albums/72157683687221796).

Previously, a flower shop was in the outdoor garden house. We have now created a smaller version in interior. My mother and I are very close to the profession of florist and the flower shop. We had a family florist, which was founded by my great-grandfather after the Second World War. Unfortunately, it has not existed for more than 10 years. My mom handles all flower matters when it comes to arranging flowers and other florist activities. For this reason, today she deals with flower arranging only exceptionally. In particular, she performs these activities in the world of dolls.😊

Male of Megachile (Chalicodoma) parietina.

Technique: It was a cool day (18C) with partly cloudy skies and intermittent light showers -perfect weather to go looking for solitary bees since they'll have a tough time keeping their metabolism up. I got lucky and found this Mason bee semi-dormant in my Lavender. This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. I used an artificial flower to keep the background from being black.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (around 3x) + a diffused MT-24EX (both flash heads on the Canon flash mount, E-TTL metering).

Fake is not a nice word. I normally don't like things (or people) that are fake. But I must admit, this Peony never needs watering and no ants were brought into the house when we brought it home.

Artificial Flowers

Bobby Darin

Alone in the world was poor little Anne

As sweet a young child as you'd find

Her parents had gone to their final reward

Leavin' their baby behind

(Did you hear?)

This poor little child was only nine years of age

When mother and dad went away

Still she bravely worked

At the one thing she knew

To earn her few pennies a day

She made artificial flowers, artificial flowers

Flowers for ladies of fashion to wear

She made artificial flowers you know those artificial flowers

Fashions from Annie's despair

With paper and shears with some wire and wax

She made up each tulip and mum

As snowflakes drifted into her tenement room

Her baby little fingers grew numb

From makin' artificial flowers those artificial flowers

Flowers for ladies of high fashion to wear

She made artificial flowers artificial flowers

Made from Annie's despair

They found little Annie all covered in ice

Still clutchin' her poor frozen shears

Amidst all the blossoms she had fashioned by hand

And watered with all her young tears

There must be a heaven where little Annie can play

In heavenly gardens and bowers

And instea-a-ad of a halo she'll wear 'round her head

A garland of genuine flowers

No more artificial flowers

Throw away those artificial flowers

Flowers for ladies of society to wear

Throw away those artificial flowers

Those dumb-dumb flowers

Fashioned from Annie's

Fashioned from A-a-a-annie's des-pa-a-a-air

Walking through the Queen’s Lawn Cemetery in Grimsby, Ontario, The Boss and I passed a number of graves which were in need of attention now that Autumn has arrived and many of their small grave plantings have died. Here, some hostas have turned their Autumn yellow and litter the ground, which in itself sports a thick layer of cedar debris. Mixed in with all this stuff are a few artificial flowers made of fabric and which hold onto their colours, albeit a tad faded. The entire effect is one of chaos. I am not one who is fixated on simplification of images. I am perfectly fine with chaos if it works for me. The effect reminds me a bit of some stained glass panel or possibly a bit of Renaissance still life paintings.

And as for Rich (Rich Border, www.flickr.com/photos/116895768@N03 ) .... I have not abandoned colour but as I said yesterday, sometimes you need to dabble in the arcane art of B&W to appreciate colour. - JW
