Newington Buildings dated 1847

Quite a unique building I was very taken with it. The photo doesn't do it full justice, the symmetry and elegance of the building is striking. The style seems so Grecian. There is a huge, impressive monolithic (carved out of a single rock) Hanuman inside.

Taken at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa after a visit to see the Geoffrey James exhibition.

I usually don't see the point in shooting paintings (except by academic purposes and the like...), but I decide to give it a try with this one. After all, it's the El Greco year...

The Urs Meile complex is another CCD gallery space by Ai, but I haven't found much serious background info on the building (as opposed to the gallerist and the shows). Nice set of courtyard spaces, especially with strong light cutting across the brick surfaces. Definitely could believe it stems from a "peace and quiet" impulse along the same lines as Three Shadows, but if there's a specific design/organizational idea here, it slipped past me.

Many old buildings in Torino have fascinating figures like this one.
