16x2 LCD with an RTC real time clock, SD card data logging, DHT22 temp/humidity sensor, ethernet and 5v relays, to control a small fan and heating pad. This keeps my clones at predefined temperature and humidity levels, for optimal success.

The assembly can be soldered to the perf board from the other side but in fact there's sufficient access to the pins to flip the board and solder from this side.

Arduino is an open-source physical computing platform based on a simple i/o board and a development environment that implements the Processing/Wiring language. Arduino can be used to develop stand-alone interactive objects or can be connected to software on your computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP). The boards can be assembled by hand or purchased preassembled; the open-source IDE can be downloaded for free.

Including shifting the pattern back and forwards, and recording new notes into the pattern (with cut-off and legato) as it plays.

The synth being triggered is a Korg MS20, and the Arduino sequencer is being triggered by the tom out on a TR-606, which is also the source for the drums through a dead splashy home-made spring reverb thing.
