This Georgian revival style house was designed by F Kenneth Milne in 1936 for his own occupation. It won the Award of Merit of the South Australian Institute of Architects in 1944 for best domestic architecture of the period.

*F Kenneth Milne was described as one of the finest domestic architect SA has known. He was the grandson of the talented architect James MacGeorge who designed and built for his own use the house, St Andrews in nearby Kingston Terrace.

His first large commissions were the Hampshire Hotel and the new scoreboard at Adelaide oval, and later, Goldsbrough House.

Architecture, of all the arts, is the one which acts the most slowly, but the most surely, on the soul .

The past may be gone, but that's no reason to leave it behind! The Adaptive Architects is a new custom Modular Building based around the idea of adaptive reuse- taking an older building that would be demolished, and modernizing and adapting its structure without losing the charm of the past.

In this MOC, you can greet clients in the lobby and show them the models of past projects, or just lounge in the stylish lobby. Meanwhile, the architects are hard at work upstairs, using modern CAD software and familiar drafting boards to design the latest and greatest spaces in Lego City! The boss gets her own annex in the added loft, so you can enjoy the view while presenting your newest building to her!

The Adaptive Architects is a 32 x 32 modular building consisting of 2,672 parts. Instructions can be purchased here: www.ebay.com/itm/134097378510

City Library facade reflects the church 'Cross of the Plains' in town Seinäjoki, Finland, both buildings were designed by architect Alvar Aalto. Certainly I think that he had this reflection in his mind.

View from Flatiron Plaza across from Madison Square Park, New York City, New York

The distinctive triangular shape of the Flatiron Building, designed by Chicago architect Daniel Burnham and built in 1902, allowed it to fill the wedge-shaped property located at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Broadway in Manhattan. The building has vertical Renaissance palazzo with Beaux-Arts styling the epitomizes the style developed amoung Chicago architects at the time. The building was intended to serve as offices for the George A. Fuller Company, a major Chicago contracting firm. At 22 stories and 307 feet, the Flatiron was never the city’s tallest building nor largest buildings, however many argue it is one of New York's most dramatic-looking,. Because of its popularity with photographers and artists it has become an enduring symbol of New York City.

The entrance. The building was designed by architect Hans Hedlund in art deco / art nouveau style. It opened in 1908 as a sub-station for Gothenburg City Electricity Board.

The building was restored to its original appearance in 1992 and got the name Elyseum. It stands for electricity, light and museum (Swedish: El-lyse-museum). The building is now used for community information, training activities and as an energy museum.

The building “The Edge” is an eleven-storey glass prism. An office building with a dynamic expression. Its continuous glass facade interplays between transparent, translucent and opaque. A true signature building in its neighborhood.

Canada Place

I'm back from Canada and in the next few days I show you beautiful Vancouver through my eyes..

Canada Place is situated on the Burrard Inlet waterfront of Vancouver. It is the home of the Vancouver Convention Centre, the Pan Pacific Vancouver Hotel and Vancouver's World Trade Centre. It is also the main cruise ship terminal for the region, where most of Vancouver's famous cruises to Alaska originate. The building was designed by architect Eberhard Zeidler in joint venture with MCMP and DA Architects + Planners.

The white sails of the building have made it a prominent landmark for the city. The structure was expanded in 2001 to accommodate another cruise ship berth and in 2009/10, for the 2010 Winter Olympics, Canada Place served as the Main Press Centre.

Australian Estates purchased most of the homes on the site between 1955 and 1959. With the advent of their modern woolstore, the company utilised the top floor as their main showroom rather than their adjacent 1920s building. In 1978 the property was sold to Service Nominees, one of the Mayfairs group of companies. All floors of the building are currently leased. The property is zoned by the Brisbane City Council's Development Plan (1986) for residential use.

The circus is in town!

The Museum of Ancient and Modern Art (MONA) in Hobart takes its MONA FOMA festival on the road.

mofo.net.au/

Among the exhibitions travelling to Launceston this year is the spectacular light and colour experience, the "Daedalum Luminarium".

This array of inflatable rooms forming at one level a maze, at another a kind of cathedral, is thoroughly captivating and enchanting. Over the next couple of days I will share the EXPERIENCE with you.

The colours are so enchanting even the camera is affected. I have chosen as titles for most of these shots subjects from either science fiction or the "weird literature" of H.P. Lovecraft.

This photo not only sets the scene, but provides an eerie introduction to what we are about to experience. Can you see the Lenticular cloud form (quite rare in our part of the world) that has broken up. Lenticular clouds in their complete form are sometimes mistaken for UFOs.

Another little thing. I have tagged on the photo an airliner flying to Hobart 200 kms to the south. It is common for us to see planes on final descent to Launceston airport, but on this day I happened to capture a flight headed further south. Maybe even to the land described by Lovecraft as "The Mountains of Madness". Be warned!
