This mother bear appeared to be sizing up the encroaching hoard of tourists with cell phones. Lucky for them she decided to run the opposite direction. This shot is taken with a 400mm equivalent lens and cropped about 50%.
I have an uncropped image showing how close one of the tourists was but decided to crop them out. It is amazing that despite how big these bears are they still seem dwarfed by these giant trees.

(Fernando Pessoa, Livro do Desassossego, v.164)

I contemplate streets, people and stones, between fictions and oblivion, inspired by the poet, perhaps, I perceive the shadows of the gestures of others, the poetry of twilight, a restlessness.

The owners of these VWs appear to have a very dedicated following of the VW marque. Their organization is 'Desert Dubs.' They seem to appear together and travel together to various car-related shows on Saturday morning.

This ship appeared at Narvik whilst we were moored there. It is apparently owned by a Russian Billionaire who is allegedly a former KGB man. According to reports it was detained and searched by the Norwegian Authorities and suspected of shadowing recent joint military exercises off the Norwegian coast.

In this photo, does the railing of the staircase appear perfectly straight, or does it deform into an undulation, like a wave, as soon as you look at it? Is what we perceive, as individuals, objective reality, or just a subjective interpretation of it? Between different people, do we share the same vision of the world around us, or are our perceptions shaped by our unique experiences? In short, aren't there as many realities as there are individuals? Couldn't we say that the world is, in the final analysis, only what we choose to see in it?

These guys appeared on the shore of the Potomac River maybe a week ago. I drive this way regularly, so I would've noticed if they'd been there for a long time. Easily 10+ feet tall, they're majestic in their own way.
The Volvo appears to very well cared-for! It's such an automotive icon now. It was parked in front of the Rite-Aid pharmacy/drugstore/convenience store.
The Rite-Aid was a Thrifty Drug Store when we moved into College Park East in 1966.
Have you ever desperately tried to photograph a feeling? I do it all the time. ;-) This verse from "Bob Dylan" played through my thoughts as I attempted to capture this image, as a storm approached. Did my best to create an image that appeared to be a pano when not a pano at all. Lol
Hope you all enjoy my efforts....I tried!
The steam-heating boiler on Brush Type 2 no. 31195 appears to be working well as it passes through Hinckley with the 10.15 Birmingham - Norwich service. At the time these locos, together with five or six Mk 1 carriages, were routinely rostered on these cross-country services.
Composition techniques were obviously work-in-progress (no change there then) with the home signal slightly obscuring the signal box for apparently no good reason. Nevertheless the shot is still hopefully of interest to rail-fans of a certain age.
This frame is a couple in front of the shot "Au revoir, but not Adieu", uploaded a few days ago. Needless to say the damp, wintry weather conditions prevailed. Looking at the crossing 'coverage', I reckon this was a taken with the 35mm F2 lens, the widest one I had at the time.

This beautiful adult male appeared on the 27th of April and was present for a 2nd day. It is the 2nd record for Lancashire after a fly through at Brockholes Nature Reserve near Preston in May 2016. Very few people saw that but now people can finally add this to the Lancashire lists.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pallid_harrier
The pale or pallid harrier (Circus macrourus) is a migratory bird of prey of the harrier family. The scientific name is derived from the Ancient Greek. Circus is from kirkos, referring to a bird of prey named for its circling flight (kirkos, "circle"), probably the hen harrier and macrourus is "long-tailed", from makros, "long" and -ouros "-tailed".[2]
It breeds in southern parts of eastern Europe and central Asia (such as Iran) and winters mainly in India and southeast Asia. It is a very rare vagrant to Great Britain and western Europe, although remarkably a juvenile wintered in Norfolk in the winter of 2002/2003.
This medium-sized raptor breeds on open plains, bogs and heathland. In winter it is a bird of open country.
Description
This is a typical harrier, with long wings held in a shallow V in its low flight. It also resembles other harriers in having distinct male and female plumages. Adults measure 40–48 cm (16–19 in) long with a wingspan of 95–120 cm (37–47 in). Males weigh 315 g (11.1 oz) while the slightly larger females weigh 445 g (15.7 oz). The male is whitish grey above and white below, with narrow black wingtips. It differs from the hen harrier in its smaller size, narrower wings, paler colour, and different wing tip pattern. The female is brown above with white upper tail coverts, hence females and the similar juveniles are often called "ringtails". Her underparts are buff streaked with brown. It is best distinguished from the female hen harrier on structure. It is very similar to the female Montagu's harrier, but has darker and more uniform secondaries from below.[citation needed]
Diet
Pallid harriers hunt small mammals, lizards and birds, surprising them as they drift low over fields and moors.
The nest of this species is on the ground. Four to six whitish eggs are laid.
As the tides goes out, the colorful rocks appear and the crusty pilings stand tall. Photographed in Tacoma, WA.
These crusty old pilings are still standing at low tide and high. A long exposure technique gives the water a nice sheen finish.

a view of the lac of jokulsarlon in iceland! The Jökulsárlón, Icelandic place name literally means in French "Glacier Lagoon" is the best known and largest proglacial lakes in Iceland. It is south of Vatnajökull glacier between the Vatnajökull National Park and the town of Höfn. Appeared between 1934 and 1935, its area is about 18 km2 today. Its maximum depth of 260 meters gives it first place among the deepest lakes countries1. Near the Jökulsárlón are two other proglacial lakes, the Fjallsárlón and Breiðárlón.
Lifer. This butterfly appears every other year as it takes two years to mature from an egg. Most appear in the Sierra Nevada and north into the Siskiyou Range on even numbered years. It is big but a slow flyer. It's top side reminds me of butterscotch. I wasn't able to a decent shot of the top side but it can be seen at this link: butterfliesofamerica.com/oeneis_c_chryxus_live1.htm. Castle Lake, Klamath Mountains, Siskiyou County, CA.
The city of Turenum appears for the first time in the Tabula Peutingeriana, a 13th-century copy of an ancient Roman itinerary. The name, also spelled Tirenum, was that of the Greek hero Diomedes. The city was later occupied by the Lombards and the Byzantines. First certain news of an urban settlement in Trani, however, trace back only to the 9th century.
The most flourishing age of Trani was the 11th century, when it became an episcopal see in place of Canosa, destroyed by the Saracens. Its port, well placed for the Crusades, then developed greatly, becoming the most important on the Adriatic Sea. In the year 1063 Trani issued the Ordinamenta et consuetudo maris, which is "the oldest surviving maritime law code of the Latin West". There was also Jewish community in Trani, which was under the protection of the king until it was given to the Archbishop Samarus during the reign of Henry VI at the end of the 12th century. In that period many great families from the main Italian Maritime Republics (Amalfi, Pisa, Ragusa and Venice) established themselves in Trani. Trani, in turn, maintained a consul in Venice from 12th century. The presence of other consulates in many northern Europe centres, even in England and Netherlands, shows Trani's trading and political importance in the Middle Ages. Emperor Frederick II built a massive castle in Trani. Under his rule, in the early 13th century, the city reached its highest point of wealth and prosperity.
I'll be appearing on the next episode of The Two Hosers Photo Show, and they've given me the weekly photo challenge.... "the longest day" (in honour of the summer solstice). Wide open to interpretation, and this is what I've come up with.
This image is photographed at The Wildflower Farm, a favourite location of mine to go shoot flower, insects and water droplets. Closed to the public, but they still let me poke around. One of the interesting things they have are these strange bicycle-based lawn mower contraptions. The front wheel is replaced with a grass-cutting blade apparatus, surely intended to make lawn mowing a faster task.... but it looks painfully labour intensive and time consuming.
Imagine cutting an entire field with a tool such as this? I think it would be the longest day of my life. Right behind this apple tree is a fledgling meadow, but the foreground grass is carefully manicured. I hope they aren't using these bikes to get the job done!
Oh, and this is a false-colour infrared image, shot with a modified camera. In infrared light, anything capable of photosynthesis typically glows brightly, giving a ghostly surreal look to the scene. The sky in this spectrum is often dark, and I was trying to frame the bright tree in the dark sky. This required me to set my tripod at nearly ground-level (thank you Gitzo for a removable center column) to find the right angle.
When shooting infrared, the camera will only capture the deepest reds in the visible spectrum, and also capture colours beyond our visual perception. These colours can be remapped into a range more natural to the way we see the world, usually done by swapping the red and blue colour channels as a starting point. I think I'll write a tutorial on my workflow in the near future. :)

Citroen Deux Cheveau (Two Horses)
When the 2CV first appeared, it surprised the world by being a car stripped to basics in the extreme, by being out of fashion with its added-on headlights, and by its low price. (In 1948 - 1950, the price of the 2CV was about US$650, about half that of a Volkswagen beetle.) Only the Citroën name stopped the car from being thought a joke.
But the 2CV had a surprising career. It received popular approval in the rural world for the go-everywhere suspension, was adored by the low earners for its unbeatable price, and loved by everbody for what it represented: a car beyond time, beyond fashion, and which knew every variation - from a 2CV 4 by 4 to the price Citroën 2cv 1948 CV cross-country car - and all the adaptations of its motor made by 2CV lovers: from tractor to pump, from buggy to motorbike.
Today, this ageless little rustic car has been loved by its millions of owners. The 2CV is a true symbol and historic monument of French motoring that draws generations of supporters, with more than 300 clubs worldwide and rallies.

These flowers appear after a fire and only flower for one or two years. This was the second year flower and was much paler yellow than the previous year when we first saw it here.

What appears to be mist, is actually the waves, and the result of a 17 second exposure. The long exposure was achieved using a Neutral Density filter. The little carbon fibre tripod that I like to use with my Leica works well for most things. It's not the best choice for shots like this, in fact I tend to think I'd be better off with one of my two heaviest tripods. There was quite a bit of wind, and many shots didn't turn out.
The photo itself was processed in Capture One v21, with minor cleanup on the lower right with Adobe Photoshop.

Bartlettina sordida, with the common names Purple torch and Blue mist flower, is endemic to cloud forest habitats in Mexico. It was formerly classified in the genus Eupatorium. The plant is an evergreen, erect shrub, growing to 2.4 m tall and 1.2 m wide. Bartlettina sordida has reddish-purple branches clothed in slightly rough, dark green leaves with prominent venation and paler undersides. The leaves are very large, up to 25 cm long and 20 cm wide. The inflorescence is a terminal corymbose panicle, 20–30 cm across. The large clusters of scented flowers appear in spring, mauve to lilac to magenta-blue in color. The clusters have a bursting fireworks appearance. The seed has a fluffy pappus and is easily dispersed by wind. R_16517

This one appeared as a mixed flock of birds made their way through the forest. This one is showing a typical redstart behavior of fanning its tail.
Ravens are one of my favorite birds to watch and photograph. They have an amazing library of vocalizations and are a very smart bird.
A few years back, my wife and I noticed a raven in our yard with a broken wing. When we approached it, it would flutter away, staying mostly on the ground. It was able to fly a few feet up into lower branches of spruce trees, however, it could not fly high or far.
My wife instantly knew that it was her mission to save this raven. We called him "Monk." My wife asked me to build him a little perch and we put an old flat tray on it. Each morning, my wife would bring leftovers out and place it on the tray for Monk. At first, he stayed away until she left, but as the winter progressed, he would get closer and closer to my wife as she left food for him.
Winter where we live, lasts from September until Mid-May, and it was the beginning of winter when Monk arrived. I am sure if it wasn't for my wife, Monk would not have made it through the winter. As spring arrived, snow was still on the ground, but the sun was up for more than 12 hours per day. She noticed that Monk was able to fly more and more. When she brought the food out for him, he would be within 10 feet of her.
On one spring morning, she noticed Monk was no longer waiting for his morning meal. While it saddened her, she knew that Monk had survived the winter and was now out on his own. A few days later, a raven appeared on the perch with the tray, my wife walked out and put a piece of food on the tray. The raven made some noises as if to say thank you and goodbye.....
God speed Monk, we both hope you are flying high and free.
(The raven in this photo is not Monk, but rather a friendly raven that liked his picture taken.)
A young female with the prettiest eyes appeared fairly close to me, she quickly moved out to a safe distance.

First figure of the new year!
I wanted to make Cad Bane in the first outfit that he appears in for a long time, which in my opinion is the best look of Cad Bane.
His pistols are made from BrickArms Spy Carbine, I cut off the stock the front of the scope and a bit of the barrel.
Glued on the back of the scope from another pisto and l use procreate to sculpt all the accurate details.
The hat is just the official Lego one.
I used Legos second Cad Bane head for a base so yes I did cheat. The hose is rolled up procreate, the little rings are procreate that I made using a fabric puncher, the gas tank on the back? idk what it is. Is also made out of procreate.
The forearm gauntlets are made from procreate so are the sleeves. Around the wrist is a strip of electrical tape.
The belt on the inside of the torso is electrical tape and rolled up pieces of procreate.
The Duster coat is made from a CM trench coat, the metal clamps on the corners of his coat are made from procreate, the satchel is made out of procreate and electrical tape.
The holsters and boot jets are made from procreate.
I painted everything you see!
So let me know what you think!
