In 2006, Apache lake was drained 50ft in order to do dam maintenance. It is only done every 50 years, so this was a rare occation. This was our last trip of the season, and as you can see, the level of the lake was way down. We parked our boat at the marina on Friday, and on Sunday when we went to get it, this is what we saw. We had to drive our trailer over to the State run boat dock at the other end of the lake to get the boat out. When we were getting our boat out there, the water was so low that the truck had to go out into the rocks after the cement ended.

My good friend, Ariel, got me this awesome Apache paper doll for my birthday one year. I always liked the outfit I put him in but I just had no idea what to do with all of his other ensembles. Until I got this messed up idea.

Enjoy.

While in Phoenix, Andrea and I drove the Apache Junction Trail, a historic US route that winds through mountains in the desert.

"A short distance south of the [Geronimo Surrender] marker [on AZ 80, just north of Apache, Arizona] is a road which leads east and then south/southeast to the actual surrender site [in Skeleton Canyon]. This is four-wheel-drive country, and heavy rains can render the road virtually impassible in spots. Once at the site, the canyon road leads east and ends about two miles inside New Mexico. From there, travel is by foot following either the canyon floor (the creek bed) or a higher narrow trail. For one who wishes to understand the elusiveness of the Apaches and the difficulties in the Army's attempts to capture them, a day spent hiking Skeleton Canyon will be an invaluable lesson."

Trip to S. Arizona, Passing Roosevelt Lake, attended a Women's Apache and healing ceremony. I truly felt the healing ..

Apache and her faux-mouton. Cally puts up with her more than she should: Apache is a vigorous herder of Bouviers. We will sometimes see Cally with Apache hanging on to her cheek-ruff. When Cally is tired of that, she takes a huge paw and brushed her off like we would a fly.

Don't see one of these very often...

Apache was overused at fairs and parties for pony rides. When his leg finally gave out he could no longer be ridden, and was "of no use." He now lives at Tamerlaine Farm Animal Sanctuary where he does not have to "earn" his keep.

Apache can be shy, but in this photo Sanctuary visitor Amanda coaxes him to approach and be petted.

The Sanctuary is in Montague NJ.

On the way home this afternoon and popped into the Apache Cafe @armyflying for a baked spud and cup of tea...all alongside a busy Middle Wallop. And loved seeing XT131 up close!

We turned Apache out with Hey Bey and they got along famously, mock fighting, chasing each other, and grooming each other.

Special thanks to Nico!!
