Deputy Chief Constable Ian Hopkins snd the new app.
Greater Manchester Police has become the first Force in the UK to launch an Android mobile phone app.
The launch follows on from the success of the iPhone app which was launched in January this year and has been downloaded by more than 11,000 people.
The Android version has the exact same features as the iPhone does and uses the phone's location to deliver information based on where a resident is, such as nearest police station or details about crimes in the area.
People can also use the app to find out who their neighbourhood policing team is, search for community meetings and help the police with wanted and missing people appeals. The app has been developed in-house by GMP staff at no additional cost.
Deputy Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said: “GMP prides itself on being at the forefront of social media and we are always looking at new ways that we can use it to communicate with our communities.
“Our app for iPhones was the first of its kind and received lots of positive feedback from users, with many people asking for an Android version. We listened to them and I’m really excited about today’s launch which will mean even more people will be able to access GMP on the go.
“As with anything new, the app is constantly evolving and we welcome comments from residents about any improvements or additional features they’d like to see in future versions so do please let us know.”
The app is free of charge and Android users can download it from the Google Play store. If users have any feedback or improvements for future editions, please get in touch via follow on Twitter or Facebook.

You should call 101, the new national non-emergency number, to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response.
Always call 999 in an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, violence is being used or threatened or where there is danger to life.
You can also call anonymously with information about crime to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers is an independent charity who will not want your name, just your information. Your call will not be traced or recorded and you do not have to go to court or give a statement.

Android app Photo talks will bring talk and fun to your photos. It detects people's faces on a selected photo and automatically generates dialogs shown as speech bubbles (comic clouds) for the people on the photo. The result is a funny talking photo.

I shot myself in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app and the timer.
Lately I sometimes get the feeling that I might actually be growing up to be a responsible Adult, not too often, but sometimes. This is a whole new experience for me and at first I wasn't sure how to respond to this latest challenge life is throwing at me (I mean, c'mon, growing up is soooo boring and completely overrated, lol :) but I somehow managed to overcome the initial fear, frustration and confusion by taking my ATM card and going for some serious shopping in Downtown Amsterdam. I ended up buying these fancy pants, a shiny white shirt, some proper sneakers and other attributes of Adulthood, and when I showed up at work the next Monday morning, all dressed up and mature-looking, my colleagues called Security and had me escorted from the building, as they took me for an Imposter trying to impersonate their favorite team-mate, this wicked, stylish Reflectah. Needless to say, I sneaked back into the building and secretly slaved away my wickedhigh workload of the day...let this be a lesson to you, don't even try being anybody but your very own self, hehehe :)
Have a nice, relaxed weekend, take it easy :)

These are the apps I use the most. Having them all on one screen is awesome, I just have to be a little more careful when clicking on an app. I tried as best as I could to keep them in alphabetical order, with a few of my most-used direct dials & toggles in the bottom row.

Unedited shot of people celebrating Queensday 2012 in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app.
On April the 30st we celebrated Queensday again, our yearly biggest-party-in-the-world event, where everybody dresses up in orange and we all go outside to enjoy being one happy little country with a tendency to slightly overdo things, lol. Magically, the grey, rainy sky cleared up for QD, as if the Queen had made a deal with the weather Gods, and it was the most beautiful day in a long time, adding to the awesomeness and the overall really lovely experience, thank you Beatrix, thank you weather Gods, hahaha :D
I've made a lot of movies of the people having a great time on Queensday too, check them out on my YouTube channel, thank you :)
