Art from a big green leaf-like insect i found on my stove top the other night. I saw one of my cats intently gazing that way and spotted the poor thing. He had already lost one leg by then. It's a sort of grasshopper. He lived in the house for a few days.

I discovered last year that trees in winter are fascinating. They are so varied - each species is different. Their continually bifurcating branches form delicate and complex traceries in the sky.
Of course, I only said that so that I could use that particular bi-word. It just has a lovely lilt to it...
Besides, I was chatting to a medical professional last week and she quite cheerfully told me that my aorta had bifurcated into two iliac arteries. She assured me this was perfectly normal. But the word was on my mind.
I’ve always felt too that it was a good word to have in your arsenal should you ever have to hurl insults at anyone. For example: ‘please go away and …’ {well, yes: this is a family show so ...}. Fortunately, I’ve never had a need to use it in earnest! :)
There are just two contributions to this set. The first is the mirrored version created from a silhouette of a local tree taken on a walk this spring, using the Android app MirrorLab running on a Chromebook (a great fun app). The second is based on the first, solarised and tweaked in Nik Color Efex for Sliders Sunday.
This sort of tinkering always appeals to my brain’s addiction to symmetry and pattern. If you like it then I am afraid you probably share the same quirky brain - you have my sympathy :)
I’ll post a link to the in-camera original in the first comment so that you can see the starting point.
Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the images. Happy Sliders Sunday :)
Testing an add-on 'macro' lens on the phone: doesn't get much closer and distorts the periphery - but let's call the defects 'artistic' :)
It's a while since I have published a set of variants based on one source image. So I thought I might plague you with another.
This set is based on an image I took of a local beech tree last November. 't'were pretty :)
The in-camera original was processed in Capture One using the raw convertor's auto default.
The set is a collection of distortions produced by the MirrorLab app. This is an Android app, running here on a Chromebook. The free version is a very competent program and quite unusual in its versatility. The paid upgrade gives you more options and, perhaps more importantly, the ability to save larger images (though the free version is fine for Flickr).
I've had a lot of fun with this little app - distortions give a new view on something familiar. But, as ever, the key is finding a starting image that works. I think this one probably does better than most I have tried...
I hope you enjoy the set. As ever I'd love to hear your favourites :)
As usual, I shall publish a link to the in-camera version in the first comment. The commentary is the same for each so you only need to read it once, if that.
Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image :)
The meadows where yesterday's 'galaxy' shot was taken. This is a horisontal sweep panorama with the phone held vertical (in portrait mode). Processing the previous shot in Lightroom (on the PC) I aimed for realism. Editing this in Snapseed (on the phone) I aimed for painterly extremism. Just for a bit of difference :)

As usual I have no clue about the name of this plant, suggestions are welcome ;)
* Update: the clever Internet tells me this is Aralia Cordata, a.k.a. spikenard.
Focus-defocus study with the longer (4x) telephoto lens of the Xperia 5iii and the digital additional 'bokeh' (background blur), which is mostly decent but on close inspection pixel-peepers will discover imperfections of subject selection and feathering... Can't cheat it's from a DSLR, but for social media 'portraits' may do the job?..
From a high-end camera (the last 3 shoots) to a humble phone. Horses for courses (but makes little difference to me ;)
Literally :) 17th century, no wonder the architecture is somewhat 'old school' (more recent additions and renovations follow the original style). And it's aptly found in... Old Street :) No longer a school, I think - seems to be housing business offices now.
Panorama of the famous Chavin pilgrimage centre : testing stitching with an Android app. It should be said that original RAW photos were not intended for pano stitching ! Artifacts can be seen...
My test of DxO Labs Pro 9 wouldn't be complete without a phone shot. As expected, does fine near-SooC adjustments, without the filters and effects (and often excessive corrections) of phone apps. Great for the purists (or those who have great phones and never make mistakes :)

Horta's method for travel photography
The Horta's method uses photographic equipments highly portable, connectable and lightweight. In addition to the equipments, the method is based on the premises of contemporary digital photography and post processing.
Cropped cameras, carbon fiber tripods, jpeg pictures, relative perspective and post processing on the tablet or smartphones make this method simple and convenient for taking amazing shots in your trips.
I have a Challenge from now. I'll take fotos using equivalent modes (FF aperture DX lens) in my cropped Cam keeping recommended DOFs and sharpness of great photographers.

Unedited shot of the Bulldog Coffeeshop in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)
Amsterdam is world-famous for many things, the most obvious being of course Sex, Drugs and raw Fish....ehm, wait, raw Fish?! Yes, that's right! There are about 35609907 'Haring' stands all over the best city in the world, and you are expected to go there and pay for being given a piece of raw fish covered with raw onions, tilt you head back in a 45 degree angle and swallow that baby in 2 or less bites. Yes, you've heard me right, we expect you to wolf down raw fish covered with raw onions, and you're supposed to enjoy it AND pay for it! Why would we do something so horrible to you? Simple, to avoid that you dare walking up to the pretty girls sitting in the windows, because let's be honest, who has the nerves to walk up to any girl, anywhere, smelling like a dead fish that rolled around in onion-juice for a couple of days?! Nobody, that's who! I have a theory that the working girls made a deal with the fish guys to errect one of their smelly stands on every corner in Amsterdam, just to make sure that their chances of actually having to sleep with you are minimized to about 0.000001%, hahahaha :D
I sincerely apologize to all fish-fans and the Prostitutes in Amsterdam, I don't mean to diss you, I'm just in a cocky mood today, please forgive me, thanks, lol :D
Have a wonderful week :)

Preparing a night session using PhotoIRmote as intervalometer.
You can see how we configured the app. We took 20 photos of 35 seconds of exposure each. We set 5 seconds between each photo (enough time because we don't use the noise reduction camera option).
Note that shooting stars have been added using photoshop. The photoirmote setup is the needed one to get still stars in open sky at night. If shooting stars are bright enough they will be captured though :) We weren't so lucky :(
Get PhotoIRmote for your phone if you don't have it yet!
Hope you try it and have fun!
trying the flickr android app. not too hot. had to to manually upload from my camera roll after the in-app camera failed. boo. it has some shitty instagram-esque filters but is clunky and fail-y.
oh well, here is my rigged-up laundry thing from Daiso that holds fabrics I am currently using, no more digging in a bin! The setup is working really well so far. When it's time to do a batch of dresses, I used to sit with my cotton bin in my lap and "pull fabrics" that were potential candidates, thus fluffing up the bin and making a mess of fabric scattered all over my workspace. now I can pick out fabrics without even un-clipping them since the clips are on long plastic cords. plus I can hang it on the wall and admire them all together. Most of these are Kaffe Fassett shot cottons or other KF weaves. I love them. I want to cover every inch of my space in them.
distinctly lacking warm-colored fabric but that will be solved with a visit to Glorious color!
