Founded in 1972 by Paisios of Tyana. The monastery is located in the heart of Astoria in New York and named in honor of Saint Irene.
In its original form, the monastery consisted of roughly forty square feet of space in a basement of a house located where the holy shrine of St. Irene sits today. Today, the monastery itself is located in a 3-floor complex on Ditmars Blvd, the shrine of St. Irene on 23rd avenue is over forty feet high and the monastery’s main offices are located across the street from the shrine.
Architecture:
St. Irene of Chrysovalantou is a large modern church which has been transformed into an Orthodox sanctuary. The exterior has had some Byzantine style motifs added, and the interior is a beautiful mixture of classical architecture and intricate icons.

For months on end my living room was boxed up, in preparation for upcoming electrical construction work, which finally concluded last Tuesday. So, I have been unboxing, streamlining and bringing it all back anew. I look at my apartment as an ongoing art project
And I was able to finally re-hang my beaded curtains, as well as my new Norens, doorway curtains. My two living room doorways each have two sets of curtains. Beaded and cloth. Linen. Which forces one to slow down when they pass through them. It's just me expressing myself. There's not a need to rush here. This is my Shangri-La.

In December 1883, developer William Henderson hired architect John C. Burne to design two identical flat buildings at 107 and 109 East 89th Street just east of Fourth Avenue (renamed Park Avenue in 1888). Completed in August 1884, each had cost Henderson $21,000 to construct (about $659,000 in 2024 terms).

In New York City, public urination is a civil offense, not a criminal offense, and is covered by Section 16-118 of the Administrative Code. First-time offenders can receive a fine of up to $75, with subsequent offenses within 12 months resulting in fines of $250–$350 for a second offense and $350–$450 for a third offense. Offenders will receive a civil ticket instead of a criminal summons and will not have a criminal record if found guilty. Administrative courts may also require offenders to perform community service.

Been having my Bengali barber (I live in a small Bengali enclave) shave my head every 3rd Sunday. Feels great. They don't use shaving cream, instead, they massage an oil into your scalp after which they shave it with a straight razor. Really wicked

My hunch paid off as this structure was completely torn down. I've been photographing the back of the building, as the front faces a police station, and not many people understand why I photograph construction. Several times I've been asked if I was an insurance surveyor. That one makes sense, as many times I'm dressed from work. No, just a hobbyist photographer. Essentially it's my documenting the pre/post gentrification of my neighborhood

I walk everywhere. To work, back home, shopping, wherever. And along many of my walks I happen upon pairs of shoes just sitting off by themselves. It's just so weird and random. As if whomever was wearing them was just whisked away. Beamed up to the Spaceship. Barefooted or in their stocking feet. Perhaps the aliens don't believe in shoes. Or have no need for them...

~ Confucius
Confucius (孔子; pinyin: Kǒngzǐ; lit. 'Master Kong'; c. 551 – c. 479 BCE), born Kong Qiu (孔丘), was a Chinese philosopher of the Spring and Autumn period who is traditionally considered the paragon of Chinese sages. Much of the shared cultural heritage of the Sinosphere originates in the philosophy and teachings of Confucius. His philosophical teachings, called Confucianism, emphasized personal and governmental morality, harmonious social relationships, righteousness, kindness, sincerity, and a ruler's responsibilities to lead by virtue.
