Captured this mural while walking around in downtown Oakland. We were planning to walk to across the Bay Bridge to Treasure Island today.

This is a historic water pump station that was built by the British colonial government in 1895. Today the building remains standing underneath the towering apartments. It creates quite a contrast to the scene.

Lens: Moment Fisheye

As the title says, I was totally blocked by a fire engine just when I got onto the freeway. There was a long line of vehicles behind me. It turned out that a Mercedes SUV was stuck on the freeway for some reason. Two fire engines had arrived at the scene. I am not sure if there was a leakage of fuel or what. The firemen got out of their fore engines and examined the Mercedes. After a while, a police vehicle next to the fire engine as shown in this photo pushed the Mercedes out of the way with its front grill before this fire engine moved out of the way. There goes my typical morning commute.

As soon as we were done with our expresso and desserts at this cafe, a black bird just rushed underneath my chair. I hang my smartphone down with one hand and took this shot of him. The bird remained unfazed.

While I was waiting to shoot the Blue Angels, I spotted a couple Buddhist monks hanging out to my right. I then walked over and asked them for a photo. They obliged. I took this last one when they turned around with my shadow in the frame and one of them shooting with a Canon DSLR. By the way, I was shooting with my Canon DSLR that day too. Later I found out these monks were from Thailand.

Spotted a McLaren parking on the street right in front of Sennheiser store in SF. I cannot afford a McLaren but at least I can afford a pair of Sennheiser headphones.

Took this low angle shot of a Thai temple in George Town, Penang, after a local thunderstorm.

Stopped over at Great Mall a few days ago and spotted these giant LED teddy bears sitting on the parking lot. It turned out there was a light show going on the premises. I took a couple shots of these teddy bears before I left.

Saw this couple walk out of the H&M department store. The lady was fully dressed in her beautiful evening gown that draped down to the floor. She and her companion casually walked down the mall before I told this photo with my phone. It was a "wow" moment for me.

While walking in our neighborhood, I saw this washing machine sitting on the side of the street. I appeared to be abandoned. There was an empty bottle of beer lying on the ground right next to the washing machine. Someone must have been drunk.

I haven't seen a nicely woven spiderweb for a long time. This must be where APPLE developed its IOS operating system. I have a whole bunch of photos taken from Drawbridge with my Google phone. Ironically, its AI based editing could not fix this sinking house.

As I saw this plane about to fly over us, I quickly took out my phone to capture this scene with the flag in it. The towering eucalyptus helped to fill up all that empty space in between.

I took these medium format film cameras to Half Moon Bay over a week ago leaving all my other digital gear at home except a Sony RX100VII in my pocket. It was fun shooting with the Holga and the Mamiya Six folder as shown here. On one or two occasions, I actually forgot to advance the film as these two cameras do not have an automat feature where it can disable the shutter until you advance the film and cork the shutter. Both cameras produce images quite differently. With the Holga, I always get this tunnel effect and heavy vignetting. I had Portra 160 film put into both cameras. We 'll see how the images turn out in a few days or so. I truly adore the Mamiya Six folder. It features a bellow that is still in very good shape with no sign of light leak. Its 75mm F3.5 Mamiya Sekor lens is surprisingly good. I believe it 's based on the Zeiss Tessa optical formula. The camera itself features a bright rangefinder/viewfinder all-in-one combo. Its only negative is its maximum shutter speed of 1/300 sec, which is kind of limited compared to other medium format cameras in that era. Fortunately, Portra film is rather resilient against highlight blowout. Inside the film chamber, there are two metal flaps, when folded, providing a 6x4.5 framing mask. When flipped open, the framing is set to 6x6. I especially like the slide-in film pressure plate that keeps the 120 film very flat. When the lens is folded up into the body, you can literally put this camera into a large jacket pocket. Mind you that it 's quite heavy though as the whole camera body is made in metal.

I 've found it ironic that this nun was shopping for the latest hand bags and jackets at Coach today......something I don't see every day. The middle age lady in the middle was her translator.

Got my new Pixel9 Pro to see how Gemini would improve. But first of all, it gains a 5x telepho lens over my previous Pixel7a. This is a huge gain for me. It also has a 48Mpixel camera for cropping and binning for noise reduction and other AI magic. The improvement is evident as I have tested the 5x telephoto of the moon with this shot.

We headed to Blue Mountains National Park today. The tropical rain forest reminded me of our trip to the Olympic peninsula in Washington state earlier this summer.

Saw this mushroom standing very up right along the trail of Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge the other day. Thought it was some kind of "magic mushroom". What do you think?

I guess these could be qualified as pictographs, if you have ever visited those Native sites in the southwest. Freshly made too.

I was amused by this skateboarder cruising on the sidewalk overtaking the slow moving Muni metro.

I actually timed this shot when I saw a jogger approaching behind me so that I could include him into the frame. Wildflowers are st their peak in the Bay Area. Hopefully, I would catch some more when I head back to Morgan Territory this weekend

This was actually taken under almost a pitch dark condition. I was relying on the light from the background to get the exposure with Google Night Sight of my phone. I then applied Topaz AI Denoise in post. It turns out not bad at all. I was not even able to do this with my DSLR just a few years.

I took this with my phone at Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park as I didn't have an ultrawide angle lens with me. I then applied this Alpaca filter with Google Photos. I have no idea why this particular style is called Alpaca. It seems to saturate the green and bring out the shadows a bit .... not exactly what I saw. Makes me wonder if Google has added any AI processing to it since my phone has a Tensor G2 chip in it.

My wife had bought a couple of discounted tickets for the Broadway show, "Waitress". It was pretty good with all the singing and humor. I also wanted to take the opportunity to try out the updated Camera app from Google. So I took a couple of photos toward the end of the show.

Tonight we are going to see someone from Iceland. That someone has already performed at Harpa Concert Hall when she was a lot younger as a cellist. I wouldn't forget my time at this concert hall. Its architecture is simply stunning. Here, I took a photo of its interior showcasing its window structures from within.

When Nikon announced the release of its retro mirrorless body, Zf, I couldn't help but rushed to the closest Yodobashi electronics store in Osaka hoping to play with the floor sample. To my disappointment, there were only mockups on display and they were not even functional. Nonetheless, I still got the idea of the size of the camera body and color choices. It looks almost like the classic FM2. Unlike its predecessor, Df, the pricing for the Zf is quite reasonable. I think this would become one of Nikon 's best selling cameras. Needless to say, I have already placed my preorder with BHphoto.

If you go to San Francisco, you would see more and more Waymo's on the street. When I took this shot, a motorcyclist was showing off his wheelie and I caught the front wheel of it. In any case, the days of a human driver are numbered. I have already downloaded the Waymo app and I am on the waiting list.

We entered the empty Mission Dolores Basilica from the side door and were delighted to see a stained glass window on each side of the building. One of the windows as shown here depicts the four archangels on its stained glass. They were illuminated from the outside making them look even more divine. I immediately took out my phone and composed for this shot

This is what a job interview looks like at the Starbucks headquarter. Very casual, isn't it? The interview is literally being conducted across me at The Starbucks Reserve™ Roasteries. I was tasting some of the coffee on a comfortable couch when the interviewer on the left asked whether he could used the chairs. I obliged, of course. I was told by one of the cafe workers that there are only three such mega cafes in the world: two in Seattle and one in Shanghai. This place is almost like a shrine for Starbucks coffee lovers. There are many signature pastries and small bites you can try not just coffee or expresso. The food is kind of pricey though. For sure, they guarantee it 's of the highest quality with organic ingredients. On the other hand, the ambient is incredible. You can feel the energy from the people surrounding you, mostly from the employees. So, here it is, the future of corporate America.

Saw this VW Eurovan park in front of the IKEA store last weekend. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to capture a photo of it with my phone . The vehicle showed some signs of rust. Hopefully, it still runs good.

While I was waiting for the incoming train to zip by at this railroad crossing, I decided to time my shot with my phone so that I could capture the train halfway into my frame. I was happy that it worked within that split second of my finger touching the camera button. Perhaps Google or Germini had already known I was about to do that.

Today marked the 1st anniversary of the capitol riot. It reminds me of the fortune telling machine that I 've found at Alien Fresh Jerky Store near Crystal Springs, NV. I can't believe I actually paid a dollar to see what I got on New Year 's day. But I had a kick out of it.

With our super wet Winter, we should be experiencing some wildflower super bloom very soon in California. My friends and I have been discussing about heading down to Carrizo Plain again this year to see the spectacular display. As it was raining yesterday, I couldn't wait but had gone to our local hardware store, Lowe's, to witness the tulip bloom first hand.

This is actually a model diorama at the Osaka Castle museum depicting the siege of Osaka in the Summer of 1615. I didn't know at that time, they already had rifles. I believe these warrior figures were from the Toyotomi clan. They looked very lively. I took this shot by pressing my phone against the glass window casing.

If you are into symphonies, you should know who she is. Saw her piano concerto performance with SF Symphony conducted by MTT last weekend....... amazing talent.

This was taken from our room at the historic Cotton House in Barcelona. We really love the vibrancy and hospitality of this city. On top of that, its food scene was unmatched for our entire trip in the Mediterranean. We always found restaurants and bistros still open late in the evening unlike any other European cities we had visited. Walking in some parts of Barcelona just felt like San Francisco. We definitely would go back.

Woke up early in the New Year day morning and saw this cruise ship getting tugged to the dock.

I finally saw a high concentration of California poppies not far from my office. It was a good sunny day today.
