Founding and early history
Paul Van Doren, his brother James, and Gordon C. Lee opened the first Vans store as "The Van Doren Rubber Company" on March 16, 1966, at 704 East Broadway in Anaheim, California. The business manufactured shoes and sold them directly to the public. Upon opening, twelve customers purchased Vans deck shoes (now called "Authentic"), similar to those manufactured by Keds but with a thicker sole. The store had display models of three styles of shoes, priced between US$2.49 and $4.99, but did not have any inventory ready to sell and Paul Van Doren did not have change to give customers; customers took their shoes home and came back the next day to pay.
Middle history
The original Vans skateboard logo was designed in Costa Mesa, California, in the 1970s by Mark Van Doren, son of then-President and co-owner James Van Doren, at age 13; Mark's design was a stencil, allowing the logo to be spray-painted onto his skateboards. The design was incorporated into the heel tab on Style 95, an early Vans skateboard shoe. Mark's interest in skateboarding is what led Vans to manufacture skateboarding shoes.

Had to spend some time between flights at the Miami airport. This station came in handy in charging my electronics.
Life in the Big City. It's certainly not boring. Last July an electrical outlet in my living room randomly lost power. That outlet connects to a conduit which runs up the wall in a corner of my living room, across the edge of the ceiling in a zigzag formation and connects to an electrical box. So, in July I needed to inform my Super, as well as my Landlord, and ultimately request for any work to be held off until at least December, as I was at that time presently undergoing Kemosabe Liquid Sunshine (Chemo) treatments. And the last thing I needed was dust. I'm so grateful to have a professional Landlord, who agreed to hold off any work until I was feeling better. That was # 1
# 2 is how a few weeks ago I took notice of a large crack in my living room ceiling, and situated on the other side from the broken conduit. Yesterday, my amazing Super came by, cut open the ceiling and repaired it. This afternoon he returned and painted it. The electrical conduit repair will be scheduled for next week. Most of my living room is in boxes.
In my professional life I am an executive assistant*, and those skills come in quite handy in my personal life.
I am also a collector of objet d'art & bric-à-brac. and it was necessary for me to box them all up in prep for the various upcoming construction. A travesty in my world, as I take a lot of pride in my apartment and spend a tremendous amount of time decorating, organizing and cleaning it. So much so that one might wonder how I've time for anything else.
As I continue to heal from the Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN) and return to some form of normalcy, so too, it would seem, how the rest of my life is collectively following along. 😄

Beautiful landscaping, which interestingly enough is situated adjacent to the very busy thoroughfare known as Queens Plaza, where Northern Boulevard meets Queens Boulevard, after which it becomes Jackson Avenue, and there is constant traffic as Queens Boulevard merges west onto the 59th Street bridge.

Concrete pumping is a specialized technique used in the construction industry to move freshly mixed concrete from a ready-mix* truck to the placement area. This process utilizes hydraulic power to transport concrete through a system of pipes and hoses, significantly simplifying the logistics of concrete placement compared to traditional methods like wheelbarrows or crane-lifted buckets.
(*) Ready-mix concrete is concrete that is manufactured in a batch plant and delivered to the job site ready to use. It is ideal for large patios, driveway renovation, pool decks, home foundation slabs, parking lots, and new sidewalk construction.

Carmel Place is New York’s first micro-unit building. This nine-story residence is the product of a 2012 design competition intended to introduce additional choices within New York’s housing market to accommodate the city’s rapidly growing population. Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group collaborated with Monadnock Development on a proposal for the city’s first micro-unit apartment building, originally called “My Micro NY”, and turned out to be the winning proposal selected by the Bloomberg administration.
Each studio residence has been pre-fabricated in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and assembled on site. The efficiently designed studios include over nine foot ceiling heights, floor-to-ceiling windows, Juliette balconies, and ample storage. Tasteful finishes are complimented by Italian cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, and Hansgrohe fixtures.
