This morning it had been so beautiful outside. Cold and windy, though bright sun and blue skies. A treat for us New Yorkers, as we've had overcast days and rain for much of the past week.

Edwardian architecture usually refers to a Neo-Baroque architectural style that was popular for public buildings in the British Empire during the Edwardian era. Architecture up to 1914 is commonly included in this style. It can also be used to mean various styles in middle-class housing, including relaxed versions of Arts and Crafts architecture.

...According to the records of the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, we know that some Ukrainians lived in Astoria before 1900. More Ukrainan Catholics settled in Astoria, noticeably after 1910, when the Subway Line was extended into Long Island. Lacking a parish of their own, they became parishioners of St. George's Church in Lower Manhattan or Holy Ghost Church in Brooklyn.

Operation Pets Alive (operationpetsalive.org) had a booth at the "International Winter on the Waterway" (iWoW) event, held, November 17, 2012. We had a booth filled with hand-made pet-related crafts (including wonderful handsewn aprons in many patterns), along with a "Polar Express" theme, complete with a perfectly-attired "Mrs. Claus". The booth was a huge success.
These large doves were lit as part of the kick-off of the holiday season in The Woodlands, Texas.

I wanted to show off my new Android phone, so here it is. Did I mention it's the coolest phone ever, well ya I know all about the iphone too, but who cares when you have an android. First few days can be very addictive, been busy downloading all the apps, and especially the ones I would use frequently like google reader and ofcourse flickr. And flickr has a cool android app, very good also uses some old algorithm where you can view updates on pics you commented.
P.S - It's quite chilly in Bangalore, so much for a tropical climate. The weather display is also an App :) I love my new phone.
Daucus carota, whose common names include wild carrot, European wild carrot, bird's nest, bishop's lace, carrot flower, and Queen Anne's lace (North America), is a flowering plant in the family Apiaceae. It is native to temperate regions of the Old World (The regions of the world that were known to Europeans before the discovery of the Americas) and is naturalized widely elsewhere. Carrots cultivated as a food crop are cultivars of one of the subspecies, Daucus carota subsp. sativus.

Yesterday, I went for my paratransit* assessment. It went well, and they had provided me with roundtrip transpiration. The paratransit is so when I'm ready to return to my place of employment, I will have an alternate means of getting there, as there's no way I can scale the nearby elevated subway stairs.
This is all driving me crazy, as up until late August I would walk the 24 minutes to work and back, every single day, rain or shine. Then the Kemosabe Liquid Sunshine side effects became overwhelming and based on my physical condition at that time, I was left with no other choice but to stay home and work remotely. The ultimate plan is for me to initially go into my office one day a week for starters. Outside of that one day, the remaining I will work remote. I've been remote since early September and I just hate it. Although under the circumstances, I'm grateful for the option. In theory, the in-person dates will increase over time, as I continue to slowly heal from the Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN).
I'm a business oriented individual and I'm keeping the faith it will all happen, as I need to be in an office setting, not in my apartment

(*) Paratransit is a type of public transport service that supplements fixed-route mass transit by providing individualized rides without fixed routes or timetables. Paratransit services may vary considerably on the degree of flexibility they provide their customers. At their simplest they may consist of a taxi or small bus that will run along a more or less defined route and then stop to pick up or discharge passengers on request

Able and Cane in hand, this morning I once again walked the 6 Avenues north to my appointment at The Medical Complex, and walked back as well. It's not that cold out, though the wind can be brutal. Wait until Sunday. NYC is due a major snowstorm. This morning my legs ached a bit, as yesterday after work I walked quite far for FedEx and UPS returns. I'm not sacrificing those returns. Gotta do what you gotta do. This month I began going into my office one day per week. Next month, two days. With the arrival of March, three days.
So, at The Medical Complex, the nurse noted how she could get their social worker involved reference my Access-A-Ride ineligibility letter. No, thank you. (I've already had my fill of their anti-social worker. Knock it off, already). I'm not going to appeal their decision. Why not? That would be a waste of my time. Instead, I am going to send them a letter, outlining how their assessment practices require an overhaul. Think, assessment assessment. I'm a really good researcher, and an okay writer. It essentially all boils down to the delivery.

Today, January 23rd, 2026 commemorates my 4th year alcohol free and 4.5 years nicotine free.
I had once been a two pack per day smoker and a daily drinker
On July 12, 2021 I quit smoking cigarettes cold turkey.
Six months later, I followed suit with alcohol, also cold turkey.
And it's mostly mind over matter, quitting these vices. It just takes determination

Able and Cain in hand, this morning was great, as I walked the 6 Avenues north to my appointment at The Medical Complex, and in 30 degree weather nonetheless. Plus, I walked back too. Felt amazing. Ascending to my 4th Floor Walk-up Penthouse Apartment took a bit, though I continue to gain strength.
I love those glasses, they're awesome and fun. They're blue blockers, to block the blue light from a computer, tablet, phone. I wear them all the time and now own like 12 pairs in various styles and colors.

The NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) collects live Christmas trees and wreaths at the curb as part of Curbside Composting service.
You do not need to make an appointment to have your tree or wreath collected. Curbside composting is collected every week on your recycling day.
Make sure to remove all stands, lights, ornaments, and tinsel before placing a tree or wreath at the curb. Do not put trees or wreaths in bags.
Trees and wreaths that still have items attached cannot be composted.
Live trees are collected, chipped, mixed with leaves, and turned into rich compost for NYC's parks, institutions, and community gardens.
Artificial Trees
Take apart your artificial tree to recycle the base and trunk (pole) with metal, glass, plastic, and cartons on your recycling day. Make sure to remove all lights, ornaments and tinsel before placing at the curb.
