This was our first attempt at star photography - so there is definitely scope for improvement :) Feedback welcome!

I went to Lake Artemesia in College Park, Maryland and wasn't expecting anything, but was richly rewarded to see several Wood Duck females and their broods. Here is a close up of one of the ducklings as they foraged among the Lilly pads on the lake. Such a cute little thing!

Peaceful Travel Tuesday

Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea). I though this young heron looked very pretty in among the purple flowers.

I've been trying out different painterly apps and this is one edit of an old image - I'm still looking for something more realistic, but thought I would post this anyway... it is Sliders Sunday after all : )

HSS and have a great week ahead !

Full Details at Grumpy Kitten.

We had been away for a while, and when we came back to our old country house, I saw this “spot” of about 1 cm² outside on the kitchen window. I thought a young bird had crashed and made this, but later noticed that the spot had changed shape. Taking a better look revealed that the spot was actually many small spider babies. Sometimes close in a bunch, later more spread, then close again. I let them live there until one day the spot was gone, and now I have hundreds of small spiders around my house, I guess :-)

These small plants have found a home among the decaying railroad ties, a perfect ecological niche.

EDIT

After posting, it occurred to me that this looks like an image to which selective color was applied. Actually, only a few spots on the wood beams were desaturated; otherwise, the colors are pretty much the way the way they appeared.

I love the diversity of life in this forest

how some leaves shine when it's almost dark

how, in so many shapes and sizes,

the forest finds it's way

Photographed at the Lakeside STA

Yes that is the same fence from which the wet web bung in the prior photo - a two-fer.

From Cornell:

The sweet, lazy whistles of Eastern Meadowlarks waft over summer grasslands and farms in eastern North America. The birds themselves sing from fenceposts and telephone lines or stalk through the grasses, probing the ground for insects with their long, sharp bills. On the ground, their brown-and-black dappled upperparts camouflage the birds among dirt clods and dry grasses. But up on perches, they reveal bright-yellow underparts and a striking black chevron across the chest.

Lakeside Ranch Stormwater Treatment Area (STA)

Located in western Martin County, the Lakeside Ranch Stormwater Treatment Area plays a crucial role in the restoration of the Lake Okeechobee watershed by improving the quality of water flowing into the lake. The wetlands treats stormwater runoff from the Taylor Creek and Nubbin Slough basins to the north before that runoff enters Lake Okeechobee.

Approximately 2,700 acres of Lakeside Ranch is open to the public to enjoy hiking, bicycling, wildlife viewing or simply relaxing. The recreation area is surrounded by levees that are accessible to visitors on foot or on bicycle.

Saint-Marie Among The Hurons the Carpenter Shop, the Chapel of Saint Marie, the Refectory and the Jesuit Residence located in Midland in Simcoe County in Central Ontario Canada

The ruins of Sainte-Marie lay undisturbed for almost three centuries. Archaeological excavations and historical research provided the information to accurately reconstruct many of the original mission buildings seen here today.

Forbidden City by Indo Chine

Consistently rated among the preeminent establishments at Singapore’s mega-popular Clarke Quay nightlife precinct, The Forbidden City has for years been attracting crowds of discerning diners and party goers with its multi-faceted offerings. Occupying the majestic Singapore waterfront building- The River House- which has been listed as World Heritage Site by UNESCO- the building was originally a 19th Century river front godown, later converted into the palatial residence of a wealthy trader. Operated by Singapore’s renowned IndoChine Group, the building has, while maintaining its historic structure and facade, been extensively re-modelled internally into a collection of stylish restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
