A film touches critics for various reasons , and today a film also touches a common man , a common man insignificant selling desi eggs , his world a wet gloomy lane.. but he too is an Amitabh Bachchan fan, now retired facing the spectral light of a twilight zone..

As I narrate to him the review of Arakshan..from a friend who saw the film first day first show who was reluctant that I dont publish it, but I am.. blogging it word to word..

Hi Friends,

Finally we have a movie wherein AB’s cast has been justified after all those directors who have exploited him from the Chopras to the Johars, even Ramu admitted recently that he did not utilize AB the way he should have and so am glad that Aarakshan is AB, AB & AB….all the way!

An educationalist by far, Prabhakar Anand is one who stands for his ideals and by his ideals, he is the man caught up between factions of pro-anti quota students demanding their rights, he is caught up in a dirty web of educational mafia, he is saddened by the root cause of the system where education has been commercialized and more saddened with the fact that he is being attacked and accused, so begins his fight towards justice and towards serving students and society at large.

We, dubai EF’s are really proud to have seen this movie before the premiere and we enjoyed and loved every moment of it, the movie opens up very well and gives enough scope for all AB fans to whistle, shout, clap all throughout the movie, Aarakshan is a movie set up in testing times of the society, it surely opens a pandora’s box and surfaces the reality of India, yes the very India which most of us belong to wherein unfortunately due to caste discrimination and quota reservations have divided people, we talk about a secular India yet people are not only divided by religion but by castes as well, we talk about rising India but unfortunately the education system in India has been sold off, we talk about progress and equality yet as a reality there is neither.

Prakash Jha once again fathoms into sensitive subjects and this time AB is his protagonist, the way he has character sketched AB is remarkable, he shows his rise, aura, plight, helplessness, shock, anxiety, depression, confidence and anger, in all a total package.

It’s a story of standing by a United India which has been divided by even education, it’s a story of how a teacher should rise above all the petty divisions and dirty politics that take place around them, it’s the story of morals and truth no matter how hard times you are faced with and it is a story of a relentless untiring struggle against the corrupt system of education governing India.

I will quickly let you know the scenes to watch out for:

AB’s entry could have been better but you can still take it given his stature as a principal

AB’s lecture to the students as an assembly is brilliant

AB-Saif/Prateik interactions super as AB says “Leaaveeeeeeee” to saif you can sense his eye veins as well!

AB-Manoj Bajpai interactions are class apart, good dialogues and even Manoj Bajpai has good footage

AB resignation scene is brilliant, his last look towards the college is grand

AB –Dipika cool down scene brings a lump to the throat

AB angry scenes are amazing, the walk in the rain, the hope, despair, and the march towards victory are outta world

Prakash Jha gets a full ace for direction / dialogues and screenplay, ideally Ajay Devgan would have suited Saif’s role and it seemed that Jha wrote the story with Devgan in mind and he later opted out, nonetheless Saif stands out in a few scenes, Deepika is average, Prateik is okay, Tanvi Azmi is good in patches but outstanding performance by Manoj Bajpai, watch out for him and his conniving smiles, his diplomatic charm, his corrupt motives, only his performance is creditable, the supporting cast are good, some miscast like Saif’s mother is very unlike what image one would have in mind of a struggling mother…phew.

Negatives: Film could have been trimmed and there were a few scenes which could have been bettered but nonetheless I will take it, music except for the song acchi lagti ho is disappointing, AB song could have been icing on cake!

Watch it for AB and once again he teaches us what acting is all about, the grace, the charm, the eloquence, the walk, the talk, the dialogue delivery, the pauses, the expressions, the style, the substance, the charm, the might, the anger…I am running short of adjectives here…he is an education for all actors, what a performance…simply superb, hats off to you Prakash Jha for making us feel outta world!!!

Reserve your seats for Aarakshan before they get reserved by others, have an educational experience!
