The most widely distributed of its genus, the Amethyst Woodstar is found in a great variety of habitats throughout its circum-Amazonian distribution. The male is mainly bronzy green above with a prominently forked tail, white sides to the rump, and a striking amethyst-colored throat, bordered by a white breast band. The female has a green-spotted white throat, orange-rufous sides to the underparts, and a narrow white line behind the eye. The Amethyst Woodstar has been recorded taking the nectar of a large number of plant species, and at least occasionally the species hawks insects in flight. This woodstar is probably largely sedentary, but local movements potentially occur, though have yet to be proven. birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/amewoo1/

Just the tip of a good size piece of amethyst I received some years ago gives my entry today for
Macro Mondays: layer
I found myself curious enough to research this beautiful purple stone:
'The crystal structure of amethyst differs from that of other quartzes. It consists of an irregular superposition of alternate lamellae (layers) of right-handed and left-handed quartz.'
also:
'Amethyst is a violet/purple variety of quartz often used as an ornamental stone.
The name comes from the Greek words a (not) and methuskein ("to intoxicate"), referring to the belief that this gemstone protected its owner from drunkenness.'
Well that's OK then - but I am practically teetotal now............

Another gem of the Cerrado biome.
At 7.5 cm (3 in) and under 3 grams in weight, this is one of the smallest birds known.
The species is generally poorly understood due to its rarity and this has also made it difficult to set a concrete conservation status.
Known in Brazil as "estrelinha-ametista".

Male violet-backed starling (Cinnyricinclus leucogaster), also known as the plum-coloured starling or amethyst starling. The male of this sexually dimorphic species has an iridescent violet head and back and pure white underparts. The female has a thrush-like appearance with brown, boldly-streaked upper parts and white, heavily-streaked underparts. Both sexes have yellow irises and black bills and legs.

The theme 'Purple' for this week was chosen by Jesse ( www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03 )
Some polished Amethyst stones adorned with the last of our Violets from the garden.
From my last name Artale I took the idea of an amethyst that my mother gave to me when I moved from home. The particular ring is bought second hand from an antiquarian so it was perfect for the theme today. This ring is very old, probably close to 150 years old so wearing makes me feel special. Not every day you get to wear something so old.
Happy MM!!

Amethyst Woodstar is a tiny species of hummingbird, yet despite its small size it is widespread in South America—found in every nation on that continent except Chile and Uruguay. This individual, likely a female, was seen at a private sanctuary on the lower part of the renowned Manu Road in Peru.
Hello amazing Flickr People !!
Today is a pink/purple day at Color my World daily Group. And the theme at Smile on Saturday is gemstones.
And what is my birthstone ? Amethyst of cours ! And it happens to be the perfect color for today's pink/purple theme.
And who is the best representative of amethyst in my house ? Mr. Amethyst Skull of course! He is classy, he is stylish and he always wears a hat ! Mr. Amethyst skull is a gentleman from another era. He was a gift for my birthday from me (yes, sometimes I give myself gifts since I’m the one who knows the best what I want ;-)). I saw Mr. Amethyst Skull and it was love at the first sight ! I had to have him in my collection ! Yes, of course, i was into gothic stuff a lot during this time of my life. I was wearing black & purple only and skulls and other macabre things were very appealing to teenager @magda627.
Mr. Amethyst Skull is a historical evidence of another « life » I had ages ago ! In this picture , Mr. Amethyst Skull is standing near a raw amethyst which is a part of my son's gemstones collection.
Happy CMWD and happy SOS form Mr. Amethyst Skull and me !!
See you later my friends and have a beautiful day !
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and healthy!! And see you soon on Flickr!!
She smokes like an amethyst
She's moving her way through my skin
She moves me
'Cause east is the way I go
But nobody seems to notice
How I feel
Keep all the lights off
And I'll try to kill our past time
Just to find your heart
Please don't ignore me
Or I'll just fall asleep
And wake up when you're gone
This body only needs
To learn to feel the problem disappear
I froze with those plastic eyes
Cutting lose from upon this disguise
Keep all the lights off
And I'll try to kill our past time
Just to find your heart
Please don't ignore me
Or I'll just fall asleep
And wake up when you're gone
She smokes like an amethyst
She's moving her way through my skin
