Gorgeous…like everything by Mr. Bonestell’s hand…at least having to do with space.
Also, note when compared to the linked images below, that Mr. Bonestell's signature is located below the astronaut working near the left rear of the tractor. Hmm.

I’m pretty sure the degree of minor yellowing & curl of the photograph support my date range guess. Apparently printed by the American Museum of Natural History, for a fee, by request it seems. So then, reasonable to assume that the original resides/resided with them? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The photo paper, although without watermark, has the weight, thickness & feel of high-end (possibly earlier) “THIS PAPER MANUFACTURED BY KODAK” paper.

Constructed in 1929, the John Osterman Gas Station is a one-story concrete building with a poured concrete foundation, a corrugated metal gable roof, and a rock-faced concrete block exterior. The station is located in the community of Peach Springs (pop. 600), Arizona facing the original alignment of U.S. 66. The community contains the offices of the Hualapai Tribe, the owner of the property. The building occupies a rectangular lot on the south side ofthe highway and is currently used as a garage. The property consists ofthe gas station building, two concrete gas pump islands, and a sign pole, all ofwhich date to 1929.
The John Osterman Gas Station, located on U.S. 66 in Peach Springs, Arizona is eligible for the National Register under Criterion A for its historical association with U.S. 66, a primary transportation route between the Midwest and California during the early- to mid-twentieth century. The service station is significant as a representative example of the types of privately-owned commercial businesses that emerged along U.S. 66 and flourished due to the heavy use of the highway. As the automobile quickly became the preferred method of transportation, numerous auto-related businesses such as gas stations and repair shops opened along the nation’s emerging roadways. As one of the most prominent east-west highways, U.S. 66 supported thousands of such businesses. The John Osterman Gas Station is one of several that operated in the small town of Peach Springs, which relied heavily on U.S. 66 traffic for its livelihood. The station is one of the few surviving auto-related businesses in Peach Springs. As such, it serves as a significant resource for interpreting and understanding the history of U.S. 66. The John Osterman Gas Station meets the registration requirements of the “Traveler Related Facilities” property type set forth in the “Historic US Route 66 in Arizona,” Multiple Property Documentation Form, as amended in 1996. I recently got an order of 5 hoods from Amazon, black, orange, dark green, dark blue, & dark red. Iron Man (Quantum Realm Suit - Avengers: Endgame): Pretty simple design, just decided to change up the arms with the Monster Scientist from the series 14 CMF & the 2020 Iron Man helmet.
The Human Torch (Jim Hammond): I think I did pretty good with the way that I designed him, I think the new Spider-Man head works really well.
Songbird: I like the way I designed her overall, the hip & legs work so well. I like the use of her cape for her wings from the Pink Power Batgirl in the Batman Series 1 CMF.
Hawkeye (Clinton "Clint" Barton: Marvel's Avengers): At first I was gonna just have this be a solo fig but I had it in the works for so long so I just decided that I'd post it in a group shot.
Arizona Annie: I believe I'm the first person on Flickr to make her, I got my inspiration from Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2. I think I did pretty well, I'm thinking about making Kid Colt as well.
The Presence: I believe I am the first person on here to make this guy. Again I got my inspiration from Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2. I thought his design was pretty cool, so I thought I'd make him.

My Toyhax stickers arrived yesterday! Doesn't he look wicked? compare to the original. The stickers go on really nice and there's a few options for what style you wanna go with. I'm tempted to chuck the cartoon-style windows on; I don't hate the clear plastic windows, I just can't decide which look I like more.
Toyhax also has a sticker set for the new Lego Optimus set, if you're interested.

Gettysburg National Military Park and the Soldiers' National Cemetery are located in the environs of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Gettysburg battlefield covered an area of about 22 square miles; the national military park comprises 9 square miles of that total area. The Park is composed of two major battlefield areas located to the north and south of the town of Gettysburg, surrounding, but not including the town itself East Cavalry Field is located 3 miles east of Gettysburg. (1)
LITTLE ROUND TOP:
This eminence on the southem end of the battlefield rises 160 feet above the surrounding terrain. The western slope of the hill had been cleared of most timber a year or more before the battle, which afforded excellent observation and fields of fire from its summit to the west, northwest, and southwest. On July 2 the Union army anchored its left flank upon it and repulsed several attempts by Confederate infantry to capture it. The hill's boulder strewn slopes provided Union infantry ample materials to build stone breastworks during the night of July 2 and morning of July 3. The rough and steep sides of Little Round Top proved to be a substantial obstacle during the Confederate advance on July 2. Union wounded used the reverse, or eastem, slope of the hill for cover from Confederate artillery. (pg 180) (1)

The Telluride National Historic Landmark (www.nps.gov/subjects/nationalhistoriclandmarks/list-of-nh...) District is nationally significant for its founding as a new settlement on America's western frontier; for its importance as a precious metal mining district; and for its architecture which, as a whole, represents a 19th century mining frontier "boom town."
The Telluride NHL district's period of national significance is 1878-1913. Telluride's inception in 1878 was a direct result of silver discoveries made in the area in 1875. With the arrival of the railroad in 1890, the town gained prominence as the center of a major mining district. The district's 305 contributing buildings include the New Sheridan Hotel, where William Jennings Bryan gave one of his "Cross of Gold" speeches. (pg 20)
In 1961 Telluride was declared a National Historic Landmark (NHL) District. At the time of designation Telluride was the only Colorado mining town which had operated as such since 1876, the year of Colorado's statehood. (1)
HISTORIC NAME: Telluride School/Town Hall
Originally a school and now town hall, this structure was built in 1883. The area's first school was begun in 1881 in the town of San Miguel. When the school became part of the Ouray County School District, the location was changed to Telluride, in a house owned by A. W. Taylor on the current site of St. Patrick’s Church. In 1883, San Miguel County School District No. 1 was fortified, a $3000 bond issue authorized, and with that money this one-room schoolhouse was built. The first class consisted of 53 students and one teacher. (pg 349) (1)

Vesterheim Heritage Park on Vesterheim’s campus includes 12 historic buildings in an open-air setting. The buildings depict the story of immigration, showcasing life in Norway in the 1800s and then life for immigrants in America. The park is a forested area, interspersed with glade-like openings that act as outdoor rooms.
Norris Miller Stovewood House
Decorah, Iowa (1855-56)
Originally located on the west side of Decorah, this house is a rare example of stovewood construction, using short lengths of wood and mortar. This system originated in the mid-1800s, apparently in Canada. Norwegian immigrants who returned to Norway introduced the construction technique around 1900 in Norway. With exterior siding, a parlor, and closets, this house exemplified fashionable town living. Vesterheim acquired it because of its unique architecture—it is the only example known to exist in Iowa. The Miller Stovewood House (1856) is one of three known dwellings of this type in the United States. At one point there were two other known houses of similar construction in Decoran, one was torn down twenty years ago, the other little over a year ago. The other two existing dwellings are located in Wisconsin.
The Stovewood House was moved in April of 1976 to the grounds of the Norwegian American Historical Museum where it will be restored as a museum and house of the mid 1800's. The move was the only way to preserve the building after a developer began construction of a series of condominiums on the original site. (2)

**Chicago and North Western Railroad Depot** - National Register of Historic Places Ref # 79001202, date listed 12/31/1979

The Chicago and Northwestern Depot (ca. 1899) was constructed near the time when the competing Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad had laid tracks through the town and built a frame depot a few blocks north. The stone CNW structure was one of several "second-generation" masonry depots which the rail companies often constructed to replace earlier frame depots at communities which had enjoyed significant growth since their establishment. The rock faced stone, arcaded ends rambling profile, and general design of the New Ulm Depot rank it as one of the most handsome of several of these replacement depots constructed at various stations in the southwestern portion of the state.
New Ulm is not a "railroad town" in the sense that it was founded by or because of the railroad; from its beginnings in the 1850's until the 1870's the Minnesota River steamboats were of central importance. Yet, after the Winona and St. Peter (later called the Chicago and Northwestern) entered the county in 1872 and thence extended to the western areas of the state, the local area of the rail yard became a regionally important center of grain marketing and processing. The Depot is the major surviving railroad building in New Ulm to represent the crucial rail network linking the town with both the hinterland and with larger markets. (1)

Millwood, VA (Clarke County)
Millwood is a small village located in south central Clarke County in the Lower Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. It developed in the late 1780s around the newly constructed Burwell-Morgan Mill, one of the largest merchant mills in the area at that time. The mill's location, along Spout Run, at the intersection of several colonial roads, and near the Shenandoah River, made it a very profitable commercial enterprise that spawned other types of commercial endeavors in the area immediately surrounding it.
The district boundaries include buildings in close proximity to the mill that were constructed in the 19th and early 20th centuries and supported commercial activity in the community. This collection of buildings represents the commercial core of the village during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Directly south of the mill, at 43 Tannery Lane, is the building that is known as the miller's house, which has significant associations with the mill. The rear section of this vernacular frame dwelling appears to be the oldest, dating to ca. 1830 and now acts as a rear ell. (pg 6) (1)

The town of Silverton is situated in the center of San Juan County, Colorado.
Silverton, Colorado was the center of an extensive mining district which stretched across the northern half of San Juan County. Established in 1874, by 1879 the population of the town had multiplied to 3,000 people. The town was founded in a rich silver mining district, (from which the town received its name). This region was later found to be rich in other ores including gold, lead and copper. The prosperity of the town continued and numerous buildings, organizations, churches, and other towns were the result of the district's prosperity. Between 1882 and 1918, the district had produced more than 65 million dollars in precious ores.
San Juan County Courthouse. With its gold dome clock tower, the Courthouse is an outstanding landmark of Silverton. Built in 1907 at a cost of $79,000, the county didn’t have to issue any bonds or raise taxes to pay for its building. This is one of the finest and best kept court houses in Colorado. (pg 143) (1)

Mind Body Spirit: The Triangle of Life: In 1891, 10 years after the first logo was settled upon, Luther Gulick introduced into the conversation the Spirit-Mind-Body triangle that represented the three-fold nature of man that he saw being emphasized in the Bible. Eventually this became a training presentation that he would give on what the triangle means. Nanaimo Camp - Cold War - The Nanaimo Military Camp which housed more than 10,000 troops during WW2 was a major training camp and continued to operate as a Military installation until 1994. During the Cold War Camp Nanaimo was the site of the Regional Emergency Government HQ. and Provincial Warning Centre build underground in one of the country’s famous Diefenbunker's.
NANAIMO MILITARY CAMP - Military camp left impact on Nanaimo - NANAIMO - Social fabric of city changed after thousands of armed forces recruits trained at former Harewood base. When the Second World War broke out in Europe in 1939, farmland west of Wakesiah Avenue traded plowshares for swords when it became Nanaimo Military Camp, a small-arms training base for Canadian troops. Now under subdivisions, community recreation facilities and learning centres, the former base left a Nanaimo enduring long past its brief wartime heyday. In 1946, much of the land was sold and a portion was turned over to the Department of Indian Affairs. The remaining acreage between Fifth Street and Nanaimo Lakes Road found its place among the Canadian Armed Forces’ role in the Cold War as a communications centre and home to one of Canada’s string of nuclear fallout shelters, nicknamed Diefnebunkers, commissioned by late prime minister John Diefenbaker in 1959 during tensions between the U.S. and former Soviet Union. Laurens County was created out of Baldwin and Wilkinson Counties in 1807. The town of Dublin was designated the county seat in 1811 and incorporated on December 9, 1812. The Crystal River Old City Hall at 532 North Citrus Avenue, Crystal River, Florida, is a single-story masonry building with a porte-cochere on the north side. The Spanish Mission style building was constructed in 1939 and designed as a municipal facility to house fire and police departments, a jail with three cells, the city manager and city clerk’s offices, and a city council meeting place. The exterior of the building exhibits the Spanish Mission style which was popular in Florida in the 1920s and 1930s. At present, the building serves as the Coastal Heritage Museum, operated by the Citrus County Historical Society and the Citrus County Office of Historical Resources. The original design, workmanship, materials, location, and setting of the building remain intact. (1)

The Old Johnson County Courthouse, under design and construction 1838-1841, has primary significance as one of the few surviving second quarter, nineteenth century, Federal style courthouses in Missouri. This significance is greatly enhanced by the fact that a high proportion of the original material is extant and the building is being restored. The courthouse has further significance as the scene of the somewhat unusual trial of Burden vs. Hornsby which occurred in 1869-1870.
The estimated cost of the building was $2,500, but the actual cost has been determined at $3 ,533.33. (1)

The late Pope Francis left us a memorable phrase, referring to the tragic events of our current history, he said "build bridges, not walls", and almost paraphrasing Pope Francis, here in Sicily we tear down walls, let me explain... there is a traditional religious festival, during which the wall of a house, always the same wall, is torn down, to then be built again in anticipation of the celebration that will be held in the new year. But it is not so much the wall itself, even more characteristic is the way in which this wall is broken down: it is struck over and over again with the arms of the float, those used by the bearers to hold the float, on which sits the statue of Saint James, an incredible tradition whose origins are not unanimous. Many, many years ago, I was perhaps 20 years old, walking with a few friends one evening along Corso Umberto in Taormina, I learned from one of them about this incredible tradition. I remember it as if it were yesterday. He said, “In Sicily, there is a celebration in which, during the procession, the float with the Saint, loaded with provola (cheeses), is used like a battering ram to break down the wall of a house, which is then rebuilt (the battering ram, a medieval assault weapon, used to break down gates and castle walls).” This year, I was able to witness (and photograph) this very particular and unique tradition, which is celebrated every year on July 26th in the town of Capizzi (Messina), a celebration that commemorates the transfer of the relics of Saint James from his sanctuary. As mentioned, the most characteristic moment of the celebration is the "rite of miracles": the float with Saint James on it is violently hurled against the wall of a house adjacent to the church of Sant'Antonio, and each impact against this wall is interpreted as "a miracle of Saint James". The number of blows needed to overcome the wall is interpreted sometimes positively (if the blows are even), sometimes negatively (if the blows are odd). The "Miracles of St. James" do not have a certain origin, some think it could originate in ancient times from the destruction of a small pagan temple, or a synagogue, someone else instead traces this tradition as a form of revenge of the inhabitants of Capizzi (Capitini), this because the relics of the Saint were stolen from Capizzi to be kept in the city of Messina, by the Spanish nobleman Sancho de Heredia, in obedience in 1435 towards Alfonso V of Aragon, nicknamed "the Magnanimous" (he was king of Aragon, Valencia, Sardinia, Majorca, Sicily, titular king of Jerusalem, Corsica and Hungary, he was count of Barcelona and of the Catalan counties, and from 1442 he would also become king of Naples), therefore the demolition of the wall would be a form of revenge towards what was perhaps the house of the nobleman Sancho de Heredia, finally someone else traces this tradition to a legendary event, which recalls the defeat of a handful of Saracens, who They had barricaded themselves in that place. Currently in Capizzi, in the Sanctuary of San Giacomo Maggiore, the oldest relic of Saint James the Apostle in Sicily is housed: a finger of the saint. Another characteristic aspect of the festival is the presence of numerous provola cheeses placed on the roof of the float. These are offered by the population to Saint James. The presence of these typical cheeses is indicative of the type of economy in Capizzi, primarily linked to agriculture and livestock farming, with significant dairy and pork production, particularly that of the Nebrodi black pig, with typical cheeses such as provola capitina and maiorchino. Il compianto papa Francesco ci ha lasciato una memorabile frase, in riferimento alle tragiche vicende della nostra attuale storia, ha detto “costruite ponti, non muri”, e quasi parafrasando Papa Francesco, qui da noi in Sicilia i muri li abbattiamo, mi spiego meglio ….c’è una festa tradizionale religiosa, durante la quale il muro di una casa, sempre lo stesso muro, viene abbattuto, per poi venire costruito in attesa della festa che si terrà il nuovo anno, ma non è tanto il muro in se, ancor più caratteristico è il modo in cui questo muro viene sfondato: esso viene colpito più, e più volte con i bracci del fercolo, quelli che servono ai portatori per reggere la vara, sul quale siede la statua di San Giacomo, una incredibile tradizione sulle cui origini non c’è unanimità di pensiero. Io tanti, tanti anni fa, forse avevo 20 anni, passeggiando con pochi amici di sera sul Corso Umberto di Taormina, venni a sapere da uno di questi, di questa tradizione che ha dell’incredibile, lo ricordo come fosse ieri, disse “in Sicilia c’è una festa nella quale durante la processione, la vara con il Santo, carica di provole (formaggi) viene utilizzata come fosse un’ariete per sfondare il muro di una casa, che poi verrà ricostruito (l’ariete, arma medioevale d’assalto, utilizzata per sfondare portoni e muri dei castelli),”. I'm sharing here on Flickr a (long) series of photos, taken in early August this year, during a short vacation in Calabria, at a holiday village located near a beach I've been frequenting with my family for several years now, during our short summer vacations. The setting, however, is very different from the beaches I normally frequent near my home in Taormina, with very crowded beaches and a sea that is also very popular with yachtsmen of all kinds. In this part of Calabria, the beaches are rarely crowded (except on weekends, but not too much). In short, it's a sort of almost tropical paradise, with very little yachting. Adjacent to the holiday village is a kitesurfing club, very popular with enthusiasts of this wonderful sport, which thrives on the sea and the wind. I photographed an 84-year-old kitesurfer, whose mettle is steely, still giving athletes much younger than him a run for their money. A friendly and sweet horsewoman from the nearby stables arrived unexpectedly in the beach village, accompanied by her father, both astride two magnificent colts. This created a moment of joy and curiosity for both the parents and their little ones, who were likely seeing these magnificent and docile animals up close and personal for the first time. Unexpectedly, a very special party broke out on the beach. Seeing it made me feel like I was no longer in Calabria, but rather transported to the other side of the globe, to the Hindu festival called Holi, with its throwing of colored powders (in India, this festival marks the end of winter and the arrival of spring, as well as symbolizing the victory of good over evil). I know it thanks to the evocative photographs often published on various photography websites.
I'll end by briefly mentioning the photographic technique I've often used in my photographs. I've created "blur" photographs—blurry, slightly blurry, and unfocused—at the time of shooting, simply by lengthening the exposure time and then also using some panning. Finally, I'd like to thank the sweet and beautiful models who posed for me, allowing me to further enhance this (long-winded) photographic story.

Propongo qui su Flickr, una (lunga) serie di foto, realizzate nei primi giorni di Agosto di quest’anno, durante una mia breve vacanza in Calabria, in un villaggio vacanze sito a ridosso di una spiaggia che oramai frequento insieme alla mia famiglia, durante le nostre brevi vacanze estive, da diversi anni, fotografie quindi aventi per tema la “beach photography”; purtuttavia l’ambientazione è molto diversa rispetto alle spiagge che frequento normalmente vicino casa mia a Taormina, con spiagge molto affollate, il mare anch’esso super frequentato da diportismo nautico di ogni tipo, in questa zona della Calabria le spiagge sono invece poco frequentate (tranne il fine settimana, ma neanche troppo), insomma, una specie di Paradiso quasi tropicale, con pochissime imbarcazioni. Adiacente al villaggio vacanze c’è un club di Kitesurf, molto frequentato da appassionati di questo meraviglioso sport, sport che si nutre di mare e di vento. Ho fotografato un kitesurfer di 84 anni, la cui tempra è di acciaio, che dà ancora molto filo da torcere ad atleti molto più giovani di lui. Nel villaggio a sorpresa è arrivata una simpatica e dolce cavallerizza proveniente dal vicino maneggio, con lei anche il suo papà, entrambi a cavallo di due magnifici puledri, creando un momento di allegria e curiosità, sia per i genitori, che per i loro piccoli, per i quali, molto probabilmente, era la prima volta che potevano vedere da vicino, e poterli anche toccare, questi magnifici e docili animali. A sorpresa, inaspettatamente, sulla spiaggia ha preso vita un party molto particolare, nel vederlo mi sembrava di non essere più in Calabria, ma di essere stato proiettato dall’altro lato del globo, in quella festa Indù chiamata Holi, con lancio di polveri colorate (in India questa festa segna la fine dell'inverno e l'arrivo della primavera, oltre a simboleggiare la vittoria del bene sul male), festa che conosco grazie a fotografie molto suggestive spesso pubblicate sui vari siti fotografici.
Termino accennando brevemente alla tecnica fotografica che ho spesso adottato nel realizzare le mie fotografie, ho realizzato al momento dello scatto fotografie del tipo “blur”, cioè mosse, un po’ confuse, non incise, ottenute allungando i tempi di esposizione. Infine ringrazio le dolcissime e belle modelle, che hanno voluto posare per me, consentendomi di rendere più grazioso questo mio (prolisso) racconto fotografico.

The late Pope Francis left us a memorable phrase, referring to the tragic events of our current history, he said "build bridges, not walls", and almost paraphrasing Pope Francis, here in Sicily we tear down walls, let me explain... there is a traditional religious festival, during which the wall of a house, always the same wall, is torn down, to then be built again in anticipation of the celebration that will be held in the new year. But it is not so much the wall itself, even more characteristic is the way in which this wall is broken down: it is struck over and over again with the arms of the float, those used by the bearers to hold the float, on which sits the statue of Saint James, an incredible tradition whose origins are not unanimous. Many, many years ago, I was perhaps 20 years old, walking with a few friends one evening along Corso Umberto in Taormina, I learned from one of them about this incredible tradition. I remember it as if it were yesterday. He said, “In Sicily, there is a celebration in which, during the procession, the float with the Saint, loaded with provola (cheeses), is used like a battering ram to break down the wall of a house, which is then rebuilt (the battering ram, a medieval assault weapon, used to break down gates and castle walls).” This year, I was able to witness (and photograph) this very particular and unique tradition, which is celebrated every year on July 26th in the town of Capizzi (Messina), a celebration that commemorates the transfer of the relics of Saint James from his sanctuary. As mentioned, the most characteristic moment of the celebration is the "rite of miracles": the float with Saint James on it is violently hurled against the wall of a house adjacent to the church of Sant'Antonio, and each impact against this wall is interpreted as "a miracle of Saint James". The number of blows needed to overcome the wall is interpreted sometimes positively (if the blows are even), sometimes negatively (if the blows are odd). The "Miracles of St. James" do not have a certain origin, some think it could originate in ancient times from the destruction of a small pagan temple, or a synagogue, someone else instead traces this tradition as a form of revenge of the inhabitants of Capizzi (Capitini), this because the relics of the Saint were stolen from Capizzi to be kept in the city of Messina, by the Spanish nobleman Sancho de Heredia, in obedience in 1435 towards Alfonso V of Aragon, nicknamed "the Magnanimous" (he was king of Aragon, Valencia, Sardinia, Majorca, Sicily, titular king of Jerusalem, Corsica and Hungary, he was count of Barcelona and of the Catalan counties, and from 1442 he would also become king of Naples), therefore the demolition of the wall would be a form of revenge towards what was perhaps the house of the nobleman Sancho de Heredia, finally someone else traces this tradition to a legendary event, which recalls the defeat of a handful of Saracens, who They had barricaded themselves in that place. Currently in Capizzi, in the Sanctuary of San Giacomo Maggiore, the oldest relic of Saint James the Apostle in Sicily is housed: a finger of the saint. Il compianto papa Francesco ci ha lasciato una memorabile frase, in riferimento alle tragiche vicende della nostra attuale storia, ha detto “costruite ponti, non muri”, e quasi parafrasando Papa Francesco, qui da noi in Sicilia i muri li abbattiamo, mi spiego meglio ….c’è una festa tradizionale religiosa, durante la quale il muro di una casa, sempre lo stesso muro, viene abbattuto, per poi venire costruito in attesa della festa che si terrà il nuovo anno, ma non è tanto il muro in se, ancor più caratteristico è il modo in cui questo muro viene sfondato: esso viene colpito più, e più volte con i bracci del fercolo, quelli che servono ai portatori per reggere la vara, sul quale siede la statua di San Giacomo, una incredibile tradizione sulle cui origini non c’è unanimità di pensiero. Io tanti, tanti anni fa, forse avevo 20 anni, passeggiando con pochi amici di sera sul Corso Umberto di Taormina, venni a sapere da uno di questi, di questa tradizione che ha dell’incredibile, lo ricordo come fosse ieri, disse “in Sicilia c’è una festa nella quale durante la processione, la vara con il Santo, carica di provole (formaggi) viene utilizzata come fosse un’ariete per sfondare il muro di una casa, che poi verrà ricostruito (l’ariete, arma medioevale d’assalto, utilizzata per sfondare portoni e muri dei castelli),”. Quest’anno, ho potuto assistere (e fotografare) questa tradizione così particolare ed unica, che si celebra ogni anno il 26 luglio nel paese di Capizzi (Messina), festa che commemora il trasferimento delle reliquie di San Giacomo dal suo Santuario, e, come anticipato, il momento più caratteristico della festa è il “rito dei miracoli”, la vara con sopra San Giacomo viene violentemente scagliata contro il muro di una una casa adiacente la chiesa di Sant'Antonio, ed ogni urto contro questo muro viene inteso come “un miracolo di San Giacomo”, il numero dei colpi necessari per avere la meglio sul muro viene interpretato ora in maniera positiva (se i colpi sono pari), ora in maniera negativa (se i colpi sono dispari). I “Miracoli di San Giacomo” non hanno una origine certa, qualcuno pensa possa originare anticamente dalla distruzione di un piccolo tempio pagano, od una sinagoga, qualcun altro invece fa risalire questa tradizione come una forma di rivalsa degli abitanti di Capizzi (Capitini), questo perché le reliquie del Santo furono sottratte a Capizzi per essere custodite nella città di Messina, da parte del nobile spagnolo Sancho de Heredia, in obbedienza nel 1435 verso Alfonso V d'Aragona, soprannominato "il Magnanimo" (era re di Aragona, Valencia, Sardegna, Maiorca, Sicilia, re titolare di Gerusalemme, Corsica e Ungheria, era conte di Barcellona e delle contee catalane, e dal 1442 sarebbe diventato anche re di Napoli), quindi l’abbattimento del muro sarebbe una forma di vendetta verso quella forse era la casa del nobile Sancho de Heredia, infine qualcun altro fa risalire questa tradizione ad un evento leggendario, che ricorda la sconfitta di un manipolo di saraceni, che si erano asserragliati in quel luogo. Attualmente a Capizzi, nel Santuario di San Giacomo Maggiore, si trova la più antica reliquia di San Giacomo Apostolo Maggiore che abbiamo in Sicilia, si tratta di un dito del Santo. Un altro aspetto caratteristico della festa, è la presenza di numerose provole messe sul tetto della vara, queste sono offerte dalla popolazione a San Giacomo, la presenza di questi tipici formaggi è indicativa del tipo di economia che c’è a Capizzi, principalmente legata all'agricoltura e alla pastorizia, con una importante produzione casearia e di carne suina, in particolare quella del maiale nero dei Nebrodi, con formaggi tipici, come la provola capitina e il maiorchino. Mi dicevano alcuni abitanti che a volte la donazione delle provole, anche di grosse dimensioni, diviene così abbondante, che la vara finisce con acquisire un peso eccezionale, mettendo a dura prova la capacità di reggere tutto quel peso da parte dei portatori.

hearts′ empath ♥ brick-red ♥ brecciated jasper (aka poppy jasper) puffed in the shape of a heart-symbol was 'empathed', i.e. overdubbed & admixed with a 2nd tricolor broken - heart - festoon by means of the scanning process.
The object was scanned in the middle of the night with all lights switched off - nevertheless the 'empath' of the halogen - scanner - light glitched an interesting (but somehow embarassing) oranje-wit-blauw halo (aka the prince's flag in the Netherlands) festoon onto the grinded surface.
Obviously the macroscopic, black hematite-Schlieren became admixtures to the igneous extrusive jasper during the sublimation-process of the lava.
The Tricolour of The Netherlands is the oldest tricolour, first appearing in 1572 as the Prince's Flag in orange–white–blue. Soon the more famous red–white–blue began appearing — it is however unknown why, though many stories are known. After 1630 the red–white–blue was the most commonly seen flag. JASPER as a TRIGONAL crystal-system

JASPIS als eine Varietät von Chalcedon (Varietät des Mineral Quarz [SiO2 = silicon dioxide, trigonales Kristallsystem in rhomboedrischer Aufstellung]) stellt kein eigenständiges Mineral dar, sondern ist eine dichte, lichtundurchlässige, mikrokristalline Varietät, normalerweise rot, braun oder gelb und durch Oxide des Eisens gefärbt.
► Silex (Roter Jaspis) - Farbe Ziegelrot bis Braunrot. Zu ihm zählt auch der rote Brekzien-Jaspis. Die Farbe entsteht hier durch Eisenoxid aus überwiegend dreiwertigem Eisen.

Poppy Jasper is a poppy-patterned variety of orbicular jasper originating in South Africa. In medieval times, warriors often carried poppy jasper in belief it would bring them courage in the heat of oncoming battle. It belongs to the quartz group and is a brecciated jasper, composed of approximately 20% extraneous materials due to the gaps left between dry, iron enriched clay when the rock is first formed.
While poppy jasper is often multi-colored due to foreign deposits, it still is predominately red, black and gray in appearance. The black and gray often act to form a sort of background behind "blooms" of red-orange color that distinctly resemble that of a poppy plant, hence the name.

► Arkesilaos 1. Sohn Battos I. (Hdt 4, 159), König von Kyrene 599-583 (?) 2. Aresilaos II. (565/60-555/50) war der Enkel von Arkesilaos I. Er vertrieb nach seiner Thronbesteigung seine Brüder, welche daraufhin die Libyer um Kyrene aufwiegelten, bei Leukon lockten sie ihn in einen Hinterhalt, wobei er 7000 Hopliten verlor. Kurz daraufhin verübte sein mit ihm verfehdeter Bruder Laarchos ein Attentat auf ihn; seine Witwe rächte ihn jedoch wenig später (Hdt. 4, 160, Plut.mul.virt. 260 E ff. S. Mazzarino Fra Oriente e Occidente 1947, 153, 313-317). Silphium (also known as silphion or laser) was a plant of the genus Ferula. Generally considered to be an extinct "giant fennel" (although some claim that the plant is really Ferula tingitana), it once formed the crux of trade from the ancient city of Cyrene for its use as a rich seasoning and as a medicine. It was so critical to the Cyrenian economy that most of their coins bore a picture of the plant.
Silphium was an important species as evidenced by the Egyptians and Knossos Minoans developing a specific glyph to represent the Silphium plant.
The valuable product was the resin (laser, laserpicium, or lasarpicium) of the plant. It was harvested in a manner similar to asafoetida, a plant with similar enough qualities to silphium that Romans, including the geographer Strabo, used the same word to describe both.
Aside from its uses in Greco-Roman cooking (as in recipes by Apicius), many medical uses were ascribed to the plant. It was said that it could be used to treat cough, sore throat, fever, indigestion, aches and pains, warts, and all kinds of maladies. Chief among its medical uses, according to Pliny the Elder, was its role as an herbal contraceptive. Given that many species in the parsley family have estrogenic properties, and some (such as wild carrot) have been found to work as an abortifacient, it is quite possible that the plant was pharmacologically active in the prevention or termination of pregnancy. Legend said that it was a gift from the god Apollo. It was used widely by most ancient Mediterranean cultures; the Romans considered it "worth its weight in denarii."
Connection with the heart symbol
There has been some speculation about the connection between silphium and the traditional heart shape (♥). The symbol is remarkably similar to the Egyptian "heart soul" (ib). The sexual nature of that concept, combined with the widespread use of silphium in ancient Egypt for birth control, and the fact that the seeds of silphium are shaped like a heart as shown in the left illustration, leads to speculation that the character for ib may have been derived from the shape of the silphium seed.
Contemporaneous writings help tie silphium to sexuality and love, as laserpicium makes an appearance in a poem (Catullus 7) of Catullus to his lover Lesbia. As well as in Pausanias' Description of Greece in which he says "For it so happened that his maiden daughter was living in it. By the next day this maiden and all her girlish apparel had disappeared, and in the room were found images of the Dioscuri, a table, and silphium upon it."

Scientists at the Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan report that the roots of Asafoetida produces natural antiviral drug compounds that kill the swine flu virus, H1N1. In an article published in the American Chemical Society's Journal of Natural Products, the researchers said the compounds "may serve as promising lead components for new drug development" against this type of flu. contraceptive/abortifacient - Asafoetida has also been reported to have contraceptive/abortifacient activity, and is related (and considered an inferior substitute to) the ancient Ferula species Silphium. antiepileptic - Asafoetida oleo-gum-resin has been reported to be antiepileptic in classical Unani as well as ethnobotanical literature.
HUNTING apps (bait): John C Duval reported in 1936 that the odor of asafoetida is attractive to the wolf, a matter of common knowledge, he says, along the Texas/Mexico border. It is also used as one of several possible scent baits, most notably for catfish and pike.
MAGICK apps: In Jamaica, asafoetida is traditionally applied to a baby's anterior fontanel (Jamaican patois "mole") in order to prevent spirits (Jamaican patois "duppies") from entering the baby through the fontanel. In the African-American Hoodoo tradition, asafoetida is used in magic spells as it is believed to have the power both to protect and to curse. In ceremonial magick especially from The Key of Solomon the King, it is used to protect the magus from daemonic forces and to evoke the same and bind them.
Asant (Ferula assa-foetida), auch bekannt als Stinkasant (hindi: हिंग Hing, urdu: Hei-ng) oder Teufelsdreck: Indikationen für die Anwendung waren a) verschiedene Angst- und Nervenstörungen (Nervosität, Hysterie, Hypochondrie), b) krampfartige Magen-, Leber- und Galleleiden, c) Impotenz und reduzierter sexueller Antrieb. ► Did the ancient Romans use a natural herb for birth control? The Roman scholar Pliny the Elder described use of the resin "with soft wool as a pessary to promote the menstrual discharge." If taken as ancient writers claimed, silphium might have worked as a monthly morning-after pill. Other items touted as contraceptives in antiquity include wild carrot (a silphium relative also known as Queen Anne's lace), pennyroyal, and pomegranate. In small doses many of these are known to stimulate menstrual flow, just as silphium is supposed to have done.
Whether it was effective or not, silphium certainly was a popular plant. Almost impossible to cultivate, it became the main source of economic power for Cyrene, a Greek colony in what's now Libya, where it grew wild.
Nonetheless, by the end of the first century AD silphium was no more. The last pieces of this aphrodisiac plant were reputedly consumed by the dying emperor Nero: "Qualis artifex pereo!"
After silphium disappeared, asafetida was used as a replacement, imported from what are now Iran, Iraq, and Syria. Already used by the poor because it was cheaper and more plentiful than silphium, asafetida was considered inferior from both a culinary and medicinal standpoint.

The late Pope Francis left us a memorable phrase, referring to the tragic events of our current history, he said "build bridges, not walls", and almost paraphrasing Pope Francis, here in Sicily we tear down walls, let me explain... there is a traditional religious festival, during which the wall of a house, always the same wall, is torn down, to then be built again in anticipation of the celebration that will be held in the new year. But it is not so much the wall itself, even more characteristic is the way in which this wall is broken down: it is struck over and over again with the arms of the float, those used by the bearers to hold the float, on which sits the statue of Saint James, an incredible tradition whose origins are not unanimous. Many, many years ago, I was perhaps 20 years old, walking with a few friends one evening along Corso Umberto in Taormina, I learned from one of them about this incredible tradition. I remember it as if it were yesterday. He said, “In Sicily, there is a celebration in which, during the procession, the float with the Saint, loaded with provola (cheeses), is used like a battering ram to break down the wall of a house, which is then rebuilt (the battering ram, a medieval assault weapon, used to break down gates and castle walls).” This year, I was able to witness (and photograph) this very particular and unique tradition, which is celebrated every year on July 26th in the town of Capizzi (Messina), a celebration that commemorates the transfer of the relics of Saint James from his sanctuary. As mentioned, the most characteristic moment of the celebration is the "rite of miracles": the float with Saint James on it is violently hurled against the wall of a house adjacent to the church of Sant'Antonio, and each impact against this wall is interpreted as "a miracle of Saint James". The number of blows needed to overcome the wall is interpreted sometimes positively (if the blows are even), sometimes negatively (if the blows are odd). The "Miracles of St. James" do not have a certain origin, some think it could originate in ancient times from the destruction of a small pagan temple, or a synagogue, someone else instead traces this tradition as a form of revenge of the inhabitants of Capizzi (Capitini), this because the relics of the Saint were stolen from Capizzi to be kept in the city of Messina, by the Spanish nobleman Sancho de Heredia, in obedience in 1435 towards Alfonso V of Aragon, nicknamed "the Magnanimous" (he was king of Aragon, Valencia, Sardinia, Majorca, Sicily, titular king of Jerusalem, Corsica and Hungary, he was count of Barcelona and of the Catalan counties, and from 1442 he would also become king of Naples), therefore the demolition of the wall would be a form of revenge towards what was perhaps the house of the nobleman Sancho de Heredia, finally someone else traces this tradition to a legendary event, which recalls the defeat of a handful of Saracens, who They had barricaded themselves in that place. Currently in Capizzi, in the Sanctuary of San Giacomo Maggiore, the oldest relic of Saint James the Apostle in Sicily is housed: a finger of the saint. Another characteristic aspect of the festival is the presence of numerous provola cheeses placed on the roof of the float. These are offered by the population to Saint James. The presence of these typical cheeses is indicative of the type of economy in Capizzi, primarily linked to agriculture and livestock farming, with significant dairy and pork production, particularly that of the Nebrodi black pig, with typical cheeses such as provola capitina and maiorchino. Some residents told me that sometimes the donations of provola cheeses, even large ones, become so abundant that the float ends up becoming exceptionally heavy, severely testing the bearers' ability to support all that weight.

Il compianto papa Francesco ci ha lasciato una memorabile frase, in riferimento alle tragiche vicende della nostra attuale storia, ha detto “costruite ponti, non muri”, e quasi parafrasando Papa Francesco, qui da noi in Sicilia i muri li abbattiamo, mi spiego meglio ….c’è una festa tradizionale religiosa, durante la quale il muro di una casa, sempre lo stesso muro, viene abbattuto, per poi venire costruito in attesa della festa che si terrà il nuovo anno, ma non è tanto il muro in se, ancor più caratteristico è il modo in cui questo muro viene sfondato: esso viene colpito più, e più volte con i bracci del fercolo, quelli che servono ai portatori per reggere la vara, sul quale siede la statua di San Giacomo, una incredibile tradizione sulle cui origini non c’è unanimità di pensiero. Io tanti, tanti anni fa, forse avevo 20 anni, passeggiando con pochi amici di sera sul Corso Umberto di Taormina, venni a sapere da uno di questi, di questa tradizione che ha dell’incredibile, lo ricordo come fosse ieri, disse “in Sicilia c’è una festa nella quale durante la processione, la vara con il Santo, carica di provole (formaggi) viene utilizzata come fosse un’ariete per sfondare il muro di una casa, che poi verrà ricostruito (l’ariete, arma medioevale d’assalto, utilizzata per sfondare portoni e muri dei castelli),”. Quest’anno, ho potuto assistere (e fotografare) questa tradizione così particolare ed unica, che si celebra ogni anno il 26 luglio nel paese di Capizzi (Messina), festa che commemora il trasferimento delle reliquie di San Giacomo dal suo Santuario, e, come anticipato, il momento più caratteristico della festa è il “rito dei miracoli”, la vara con sopra San Giacomo viene violentemente scagliata contro il muro di una una casa adiacente la chiesa di Sant'Antonio, ed ogni urto contro questo muro viene inteso come “un miracolo di San Giacomo”, il numero dei colpi necessari per avere la meglio sul muro viene interpretato ora in maniera positiva (se i colpi sono pari), ora in maniera negativa (se i colpi sono dispari). I “Miracoli di San Giacomo” non hanno una origine certa, qualcuno pensa possa originare anticamente dalla distruzione di un piccolo tempio pagano, od una sinagoga, qualcun altro invece fa risalire questa tradizione come una forma di rivalsa degli abitanti di Capizzi (Capitini), questo perché le reliquie del Santo furono sottratte a Capizzi per essere custodite nella città di Messina, da parte del nobile spagnolo Sancho de Heredia, in obbedienza nel 1435 verso Alfonso V d'Aragona, soprannominato "il Magnanimo" (era re di Aragona, Valencia, Sardegna, Maiorca, Sicilia, re titolare di Gerusalemme, Corsica e Ungheria, era conte di Barcellona e delle contee catalane, e dal 1442 sarebbe diventato anche re di Napoli), quindi l’abbattimento del muro sarebbe una forma di vendetta verso quella forse era la casa del nobile Sancho de Heredia, infine qualcun altro fa risalire questa tradizione ad un evento leggendario, che ricorda la sconfitta di un manipolo di saraceni, che si erano asserragliati in quel luogo. Attualmente a Capizzi, nel Santuario di San Giacomo Maggiore, si trova la più antica reliquia di San Giacomo Apostolo Maggiore che abbiamo in Sicilia, si tratta di un dito del Santo. Un altro aspetto caratteristico della festa, è la presenza di numerose provole messe sul tetto della vara, queste sono offerte dalla popolazione a San Giacomo, la presenza di questi tipici formaggi è indicativa del tipo di economia che c’è a Capizzi, principalmente legata all'agricoltura e alla pastorizia, con una importante produzione casearia e di carne suina, in particolare quella del maiale nero dei Nebrodi, con formaggi tipici, come la provola capitina e il maiorchino. Mi dicevano alcuni abitanti che a volte la donazione delle provole, anche di grosse dimensioni, diviene così abbondante, che la vara finisce con acquisire un peso eccezionale, mettendo a dura prova la capacità di reggere tutto quel peso da parte dei portatori.

SET 1 – West Point Wal-Mart
With this style of Wal-Mart signage so rare these days – heck, practically nonexistent, really – naturally I made sure to photograph it to the best of my ability. This shot is a super straight-on close-crop, and while it might be a bit much, I’d rather have it than not, lol.
I always liked the etchwork (?) on the WAL-MART lettering, and I liked seeing the SUPERCENTER lettering below that as well, although I’ve gotta admit, it would look more at home to me in the color yellow, haha. Also, I hate to burst anyone’s bubble on this if this is one of those things you won’t be able to unsee after I point it out, but… that “S” in “Supercenter” was installed incorrectly :/ An amazingly common mistake for any signs that contain the letter S, I tell ya…
Note also that a slightly different font was chosen for the word “Supercenter” from what’s shown in that linked image: I think that was a change that was made only in the last few years of this logo’s existence, prior to the switchover to the spark logo, condensed wordmark, and elimination of the Supercenter name.

I'm sharing here on Flickr a (long) series of photos, taken in early August this year, during a short vacation in Calabria, at a holiday village located near a beach I've been frequenting with my family for several years now, during our short summer vacations. The setting, however, is very different from the beaches I normally frequent near my home in Taormina, with very crowded beaches and a sea that is also very popular with yachtsmen of all kinds. In this part of Calabria, the beaches are rarely crowded (except on weekends, but not too much). In short, it's a sort of almost tropical paradise, with very little yachting. Adjacent to the holiday village is a kitesurfing club, very popular with enthusiasts of this wonderful sport, which thrives on the sea and the wind. I photographed an 84-year-old kitesurfer, whose mettle is steely, still giving athletes much younger than him a run for their money. A friendly and sweet horsewoman from the nearby stables arrived unexpectedly in the beach village, accompanied by her father, both astride two magnificent colts. This created a moment of joy and curiosity for both the parents and their little ones, who were likely seeing these magnificent and docile animals up close and personal for the first time. Unexpectedly, a very special party broke out on the beach. Seeing it made me feel like I was no longer in Calabria, but rather transported to the other side of the globe, to the Hindu festival called Holi, with its throwing of colored powders (in India, this festival marks the end of winter and the arrival of spring, as well as symbolizing the victory of good over evil). I know it thanks to the evocative photographs often published on various photography websites.
I'll end by briefly mentioning the photographic technique I've often used in my photographs. I've created "blur" photographs—blurry, slightly blurry, and unfocused—at the time of shooting, simply by lengthening the exposure time and then also using some panning. Finally, I'd like to thank the sweet and beautiful models who posed for me, allowing me to further enhance this (long-winded) photographic story.

Propongo qui su Flickr, una (lunga) serie di foto, realizzate nei primi giorni di Agosto di quest’anno, durante una mia breve vacanza in Calabria, in un villaggio vacanze sito a ridosso di una spiaggia che oramai frequento insieme alla mia famiglia, durante le nostre brevi vacanze estive, da diversi anni, fotografie quindi aventi per tema la “beach photography”; purtuttavia l’ambientazione è molto diversa rispetto alle spiagge che frequento normalmente vicino casa mia a Taormina, con spiagge molto affollate, il mare anch’esso super frequentato da diportismo nautico di ogni tipo, in questa zona della Calabria le spiagge sono invece poco frequentate (tranne il fine settimana, ma neanche troppo), insomma, una specie di Paradiso quasi tropicale, con pochissime imbarcazioni. Adiacente al villaggio vacanze c’è un club di Kitesurf, molto frequentato da appassionati di questo meraviglioso sport, sport che si nutre di mare e di vento. Ho fotografato un kitesurfer di 84 anni, la cui tempra è di acciaio, che dà ancora molto filo da torcere ad atleti molto più giovani di lui. Nel villaggio a sorpresa è arrivata una simpatica e dolce cavallerizza proveniente dal vicino maneggio, con lei anche il suo papà, entrambi a cavallo di due magnifici puledri, creando un momento di allegria e curiosità, sia per i genitori, che per i loro piccoli, per i quali, molto probabilmente, era la prima volta che potevano vedere da vicino, e poterli anche toccare, questi magnifici e docili animali. A sorpresa, inaspettatamente, sulla spiaggia ha preso vita un party molto particolare, nel vederlo mi sembrava di non essere più in Calabria, ma di essere stato proiettato dall’altro lato del globo, in quella festa Indù chiamata Holi, con lancio di polveri colorate (in India questa festa segna la fine dell'inverno e l'arrivo della primavera, oltre a simboleggiare la vittoria del bene sul male), festa che conosco grazie a fotografie molto suggestive spesso pubblicate sui vari siti fotografici.
Termino accennando brevemente alla tecnica fotografica che ho spesso adottato nel realizzare le mie fotografie, ho realizzato al momento dello scatto fotografie del tipo “blur”, cioè mosse, un po’ confuse, non incise, ottenute allungando i tempi di esposizione. Infine ringrazio le dolcissime e belle modelle, che hanno voluto posare per me, consentendomi di rendere più grazioso questo mio (prolisso) racconto fotografico.

Madison is an exceptional community with a wealth of 19th century architecture that was possible because of the rich cotton economy, the cultured town-life of the planters, and the building of the third oldest railroad in the United States, the Georgia Railroad, through Madison. Few towns founded in early 19th century Georgia have been able to preserve so much and had so much to offer in the first place. (1)
A prominent feature in Madison’s downtown square and beloved filming location when Y’allywood comes to town, Morgan County Courthouse is open to visitors when court is not in session.
This impressive Neoclassical Revival style building was originally constructed in 1905 by J.W. Golucke and Company to replace the County’s previous courthouses destroyed by fire.
Today, the building houses the magistrate, probate, and superior court. It has been used as background in a number of television and film projects, including Goosebumps, I’ll Fly Away, Rob Zombie’s Halloween II, Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 and American Made, starring Tom Cruise. (2)
