Sirmione is a comune in the province of Brescia, on the peninsula of the same name in Lake Garda. The Ancient Roman poet Catullus, whose family owned a villa here, wrote an affectionate poem in praise of Sirmione.

The animal is ignorant of the fact that he knows. The man is aware of the fact that he is ignorant.

The Desultor’s House

The term “desultor” (Latin “one who leaps down”) has been applied to individuals skilled at leaping from one horse or chariot to another. This house was decorated with an interesting mosaic of an acrobat riding an ass backward.

Architectural detail from the central bow of the garden façade: Atlas and Caryatids. Sanssouci palace has a single-storey principal block with two flanking side wings. The building occupies almost the entire upper terrace. The potential monotony of the façade is broken by a central bow, its dome rising above the hipped roof, with the name of the palace—remarkably written with a comma and a full stop[9]—on it in gilded bronze letters. The secondary side wings on the garden front are screened by two symmetrical rows of trees each terminating in free-standing trellised gazebos, richly decorated with gilded ornaments.

The word tagine has two meanings. A tagine refers to the food cooked inside the pot as well as the pot that is used to cook.

Traditionally tagine pots are made out of clay.A tagine is a conical earthenware pot and the dish prepared in the tagine pot shares the same name as it’s cooking vessel. So tagine is a dish and also a cooking pot. Historically, the nomads in North Africa used the tagine pot as a “portable oven”, allowing them to prepare food at anytime while moving around.

The base of the tagine is wide and shallow; its cover has a conical shape and creates a seal on the base. Together, the two pieces make a kind of clay oven that was traditionally placed on an open fire for cooking.

While the food is being cooked, steam rises into the cone, condenses and then falls back down into the dish. This cooking method is similar to all the dutch ovens’ method (also known as casserole, french oven and cocotte.), it allows to naturally and continuously baste the dish and to keep the ingredients moist and the meat buttery.

The tagines were traditionally made of earthenware and were not glazed. Nowadays, tagines are made of different types of materials, glazed and elegantly decorated.

A foot bridge is over the dried out river at Asif Ounila to Ksar Ait Ben Haddou.

The Ounila Valley links the Tizi n Tichka pass to Ait Ben Haddou and was originally the main thoroughfare for the trans-saharan trade route between Marrakesh and sub-saharan Africa. Today, evidence of this once highly important role is reflected in the numerous crumbling kasbah’s and ksar which are dotted all throughout the valley.

The famous ksar of Ait ben Haddou stands at one entrance to the valley (Ouarzazate direction) while the Telouet Kasbah of Thami El Glaoui – once Pasha of Marrakesh and the southern regions – stands at the other (just before the road links back up to the N9 highway). All the kasbah’s and ksar inside the valley were built by families of high status and would have had the privilege of receiving gifts from across the world as a sort of tax for using the road.

There is no mistaking an elephant for anything else. They are the largest living land animal, and have a unique trunk and tusks that no other animal has.

The trunk contains more than 40,000 muscles and is capable of both great strength and great dexterity. In addition, the elephant has enormous ears that it flaps back and forth as a threat display, or to cool its body. Males can grow to 11½ feet tall and weigh 12,000 pounds. Females can grow to 9 feet and weigh 6,000 to 10,000 pounds. Despite their great bulk they walk in digitigrade fashion, that is, on their toes.

Elephants usually live in herds of related females and their offspring. The leader is an elderly female. The males live apart either singly or in all-male herds.

Elephants roam over wide ranges and can walk for many hours without rest. They can use their sensitive trunks to detect a rainstorm up to 15 miles away. They will walk there to feed on the lush plant growth the rain causes or to drink the water. When walking the herd covers about four miles per hour, but they can sustain a rate of eight miles per hour when necessary. They can run for short distances at up to 25 mph and can easily overtake a human sprinter. They can walk or swim across a river, but cannot jump over a ditch only 5 feet wide.

Elephant babies weigh 200+ lbs. at birth, and nurse for 2 years. They need 10 to 14 years to mature. All herd members care for all babies.
