This is an alternative view of Clavell Tower which stands on the hilltop overlooking Kimmeridge Bay on the Dorset coast. It was taken in the warm light of evening and the line curving round the middle hill is the country lane that leads down to the bay.
Clavell Tower, which is part of the Smedmore Estate, was originally at the top of the hill on which it stands but over the last couple of years it has been dismantled stone by stone at a cost of just under a million pounds and moved 25 meters down the hill to prevent it falling into the sea. It was at the same time restored, having been gutted by a fire in the 1930's, and is now in the hands of the Landmark Trust who let it out as holiday accommodation for two people. It was originally built in 1830 by Reverend John Richards Clavell as a folly and observatory. This is another Dorset landmark that has appeared in various films etc.
While I was there, I found out that there is a Kimmeridge Bay warden who lives in one of the old coastguard cottages on the cliff top and keeps an eye on what goes on in the bay, sorting out disputes between fishermen who work out of the bay and holidaymakers etc. He told me that he doesn't get paid but he lives in the cottage paying the same rent that he did when he moved in in 1967! For the opportunity to live in this idyllic place, I think I'd do the job for nothing too.......apart from the fact that there is no broadband so Flickr would be difficult!
This modern building, on an angular lot, elects to utilize the full lot area by adding acute balcony spaces.

It was cloudy and overcast on Monte Sano this morning. I thought I’d be able to get some decent early-Fall shots on the trails but it started to rain right after sunrise. In other words, I got shut out. No worries. I have plenty of alternatives.
Here’s a fishing shot I like from my sunrise scouting at Mud Creek Public Boat Ramp, just northeast of Scottsboro, Alabama.
