Taken in the Trinity Alps Wilderness of Northern California. This river was raging with spring runoff, producing a constant and overwhelming roar of water. My lens kept getting water spray all over it, which did some strange things to the contrast in the picture, but it's part of the story!
Sometimes the easy way is the best. Sometimes you have to get to that easy way by going the hard one.
I took this photograph only about 50 metres away from the trail. but I went completely around it to search for that angle. It would've been a nice half day hiking trip, but we were on a hike anyway and we had to find a proper place to sleep. We did not, btw.
About an hour before sunrise, a cloud-free strip on the eastern horizon promised a beautiful sunrise in an otherwise cloudy sky. Since the clouds weren't too high, nothing happened at first. It wasn't until ten minutes before sunrise that the clouds began to glow. After a few minutes the spectacle faded again and unfortunately the wind and water didn't really cooperate...
