Here is another application for a Weber product. The Weber grill is just a handy platform. This could just as easily be set up on angle irons on a flat rock.
The iCan used in this experiment was made from a Dole pineapple juice can. It is nested inside the Weber charcoal starter and supported off the ground by the charcoal basket that is part of the Weber unit. But I have inverted the basket so it points DOWN. Clearly an iCan would not balance on the pointed end of the conical basket.
Details:
272 grams of fuel are used in a pineapple juice iCan. At $0.009 per oz, the fuel cost was $0.086
This is based on a cost of premium wood pellets @ $300 per ton or $6.00 per 40 lbs bag.
Biochar produced on average: 57.5 grams [2.03 oz] = about 21.2% of the weight of the fuel load or about 42.4% of the carbon in the fuel -- less some residual non carbon elements. Biochar is not 100% pure elemental carbon.
Shelburne Farms is currently selling biochar for $2.00 per pound = 12.5 cents per ounce. Thus the retail value of the biochar from a burn of this iCan is on the order of 25.4 cent, or about 3X the value of the wood pellet fuel used to make it.
In other words, the net profit per run is about 16.8 cents or nearly 200%.

Boiled at about the 23 minute mark and continued to boil for another 12 - 13 minutes.
Boiled off about 30% of the water.
Burn time was slightly under 38 minutes.
For a hotter fire, a 3 lbs Costco coffee can can be used for the iCan All-in-One TLUD.
The concentration ring used here is my favorite GE drip pan. Grate is from an old gas stove.
Note that the slots of the Weber unit are at the BOTTOM. If they are put at the top, too much cooling air enters the heat stream and it is difficult to boil the water. If it does boil, it will take nearly 50% longer.

Probably my favorite part of this kinda boring explore was this kitchen appliance made by 'L-K'. It's a double sink, refrigerator, freezer, oven, and stovetop all-in-one. Now that's space-saving.
I wonder how efficient it could be since the refrigerator and oven basically share an inner wall.
