I had a couple of hours to kill in York after an RSPB conference, so I went over to York Minster to take some pictures of it. It was much more challenging than I would have thought. Also I did not have a tripod. It also needed much more time than I had to find the best angles & viewpoints, lens, etc. So I gave up.
I found this very talented painter re-creating one of Leonardo Da Vinci's paintings (the Mona Lisa). He was brilliant. I asked him if I could photograph him at work and he said yeas, so I spent some time there. I wish the person on the right had been looking at the painting at the moment I took this!

Tropical storm Alberto.
This is not just an ordinary "pretty sunset", it is a "Hurricane sunset", the kind of sunset that puts terror in the hearts of sea faring people!
There is a weird kind of color that just shouts...."prepare to meet thy doom by storm"! An approaching tropical storm has by now slowly eaten up the sky except for the far distant horizon, and rain begins to fall.
Looking to the North northwest, from my 5th floor Apartment stairs landing, about sunset, the sun just about to set, and I took this photo of the cloudcover of Alberto. The cloud shield extends to the horizen and then the sun shone under it, here, now, the first rains are beginning to fall, but over to the NNW, still clear, where the sun is.
That is.....the edge of the huge rainshield, of this tropical storm Alberto, has come Northward to where it has covered all of the sky except near the NW horizon, and the sun sets in the clear sky and shines under the shield and illuminates it from below.
here, light rain has begun to fall.
Looks omenious and dangerious, the light portends interesting Times to come, for all who live under this approaching cloud shield!

Such type of stages gives the supporters the oportunity to see every cyclist individually, and to support and encourage their efforts one by one.
Alberto Contador, has today defended his leadership and thus, tomorrow will probably became the first spanish cyclist who has won the three main cyclist competitions by stages (Tour, Giro & Vuelta).

Alberto is the head of the ICRC's orthopaedic programme in Afghanistan. He's spent the past two decades in this war-ravaged nation - far from his native Italy - helping an estimated 100,000 Afghan landmine and accident victims learn to find the strength within themselves to not only walk, but also to hope, again.
In a country where the disabled are generally given pity but no rights, Alberto found a way - through micro-loans, positive discrimination schemes and home schooling - to give tens of thousands of disabled Afghans a job and a sense of dignity and pride.
He shared with us his wish for overcoming the social and physical barriers the disabled face in war-torn communities across the globe.
